Because they are a full time moneyed outfit based in England playing in a mostly part time Welsh league purely as a way of guaranteeing themselves European football.

    Cuckoos.

sorry didnt get back to this .Busy weekend,

Anyway TNS and their history shows they are not "an outfit based in England playing in a mostly part time Welsh league purely as a way of guaranteeing themselves European football."

Llansantffraid were quite successful in the early mid 90s and attracted the attention of Total Network Solutions an Oswestry based computer / IT company who became head sponsors. Name change to TNS Llansantffraid then later to just TSN.

2003 TSN merged / bought out a struggling Oswestry Town who despite being an English club played in the Welsh leagues.

TSN (the company) were then taken over by BT and the sponsorship of the club stopped. To keep the TSN name, for which they had become known, they changed to The New Saints which reflected The Saints....... knickname of the old Llansantffraid club.

You proberbly know all this but the " Cuckoo" part of your post is wrong.

The New Saints are a Welsh club ,who have ALWAYS played in the Welsh leagues, that attracted a sponsor, due to their on field success which in time allowed them to go full time (Barry Town were also full time). They then merge with another WELSH league club ( Oswestry Town) who happen to be 8 miles away in England and decided to play out of Oswestry. So never opted to play in the Welsh league "purely as a way of guaranteeing themselves European football."      They have always played in the Welsh league (as did Oswestry Town) .

The New Saints are a ghastly cuckoo club from England.

Hmmm any different than Cardiff or Swansea playing in the English system or even Colwyn Bay who played in England at Northwich and Ellesmere Port from 91 to 2019.

    Mergers ,buy outs happen.

What I know or remember TNS Llansantffraid were the ones who instigated the buy out of Oswestry Town ( an English club playing in Wales)

Not sure how you can call them a cuckoo club

Honestly, I'm convinced I fell into a deep slumber around about January and that I'm dreaming all this. Winning the League Cup, the Scottish Cup and now holding a side like Galatasaray to a draw away from home. It's certainly a great time to be a Saints fan!

Someone just joked on social media that you can measure the relative stature of the two clubs by their sponsors: Turkish Airlines v Binn Skips, a local waste disposal company.

St Johnstone,Dundalk,The New Saints,Shamrock Rovers, Glasgow Celtic.

The small clubs from Scotland, Ireland and Wales all excelled last night.😁

Good to see the sixth team in this year Yanto. Why did the Griffins only play 5 games though?

Griffins hosted the first event.Took some heavy beatings and decided to pull out of the competition with a view of re grouping next season.

9s is a different game to full 13 and some teams are not suited to the shorter version.

  5. Rotterdam Pitbulls have competed in a three weeks shortened season here in the Netherlands where Nines was the format.So some games played remembering the covid rules differ greatly from the UK . Den Haag Knights beat Amsterdam Cobras in the final .May be an image of text that says "NRLB B NRLB NINES FINAL STANDINGS P PF PA PTS 13 10 3 O 214 138 20 156 146 13 14 KNIGHTS COBRAS DOLPHINS WOLVES PITBULLS GRIFFINS 6 1 144 178 13 6 2 6 5 5 7 13 1 5 174 144 12 128 156 11 46 100 O #NRLB"

Aaron Ramsey signs for Juventus for =£400k/wk, under a Bosman Rule Signing, even though his contract isn't expired yet. Is this another example of the bad signs of Brexit? What will happen after March 27th, British players will be exempt from Bosman rulings because they are no longer part of the EU, therefore more of them will stay in the UK, and sign new contracts, will we see an exodus of UK registered players to EU Clubs before the end of March?

More to think about..How will Brexit affect the Kolpack ruling which allows players from the Pacific Islands under ACP / Association Agreements with the EU to play in the UK.

Will all the PI guys in Super League be under threat ???

Cricket and union also have a lot of ACP players playing in the UK .

Sorry if its already been posted but an ongoing project listing every club, player  fixtures  tables etc etc.

A massive project and a lot is incomplete but some great reading for guys who like stats.

    Example

    Lancashire Cup.. https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/competitions/lancashire-cup/summary.html

Then click on the game and its all detailed.

  8. Excellent 25-minute, black & white Border TV documentary from the late 1970s about Workington Town. Narrated by Eric Robson, it features interviews with Alan Banks, Jim Brough, Andy Key, Sol Roper, Ike Southward and Arnold 'Boxer' Walker. Some great dressing room stuff before a First Division game at Derwent Park against Warrington. Instantly recognisable Town players and officials include David Beck, Harry Beverley, Paul Charlton, George Graham, Ian Hartley, Iain McCorquodale, Tom Mitchell, Bill Pattinson and Bill Smith.

Alan Rowley at 10 John Dobie 13 and who is the number 3 ??  ;)  ;)

  9. Before the career of Stanley Gene? That's not a thing.

Though I seem to remember seeing PNG take on a Humberside select amateur side at the Boulevard around about the time you say. An old team mate of mine was on the first BARLA tour to PNG which will have been around 1979/80 time.

Alan Varty from Broughton Red Rose came back from the 1978 PNG BARLA tour as BARLA player of the season.

Leigh Miners website has a piece on it ..http://www.leighminersrangers.net/openage/remember-when-4/

  10. Interesting.........Den Haag Knights and Amsterdam Cobra's photo on the "About us page".

It seems the General Manager played in the Netherlands on tour for Durham University in a game which I refereed a few years ago and from what I am led to believe is now studying in Maastricht were he is looking to set up a club.

With that info I am suprised he has none of the Rotterdam or Brussels shirts on sale.

Den Haag and Amsterdam both used union club shirts last season.

  11. Holland made eleven changes to their starting line up for the final group game against Spain.

Strange very strange...now with the 3-0 defeat they face a decent Italian side in the semi final rather than the easier (on paper) Norwegians.

Still take the Dutch to win the tournament but how far behind are we when Holland can field TWO  competitive elevens in the tournament and we struggle to get one decent eleven on the park.

    I know nowt :-(
