Poorly worded that quote. Should say 'just happened to be them.'
Knew what you meant :-)
Had some good times with Big Frank Foster at Barrow in the 80's so a Barrow accent is easy to wuk oot...

"Germany's group had spain and Holland in it, one giant was bound to go out and it had to be then."
Spain left it late in both their 1-0 games v Russia and Germany( 82 & 86 minutes).
Germany 0-2 behind the Dutch at half time then dominated the second half and got back to 2-2, then lost it in the 90th minute.
Lot of squeaky bums here in the Netherlands for that game ...believe me.
Big surprise them going home early.
Saying that the Dutch look strong...up against the holders Spain on Wednesday...
-
England out of the 21s outclassed both games. Why don't the best players play. You don't see the likes of Isco opting out to play for the under 21s for Spain.
TWELVE of the Dutch under 21's have senior caps and I was reading that the Norwegian under 21's that were in the squad for WC Qualifier in Albania on Friday went straight to Israel to play for the under 21 team.Maybe they want to win the tournament or maybe they have pride in representing their national team at all levels.
-
Luke Shaw, Callum McManaman, Andros Townsend, Raheem Sterling,Jack Wilshere, Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck, Jack Rodwell, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kyle Walker. TEN players for one reason or another who are not at the under 21 Finals...no wonder we cant win tournament football.
-
Dutch 3-2 winners ..cracking match in a group which includes Spain and Russia (1-0)
-
Poor show from the Under 21s last night. After gong into the tournament on the back off a nine game unbeaten run with NO goals against more was expected.
Even Stuart Pearce has described them as "Aweful".
Still wins against Israel and Norway will see them through to the semi finals where Holland or Germany could be waiting for them.
Rose ,Ince and Zaha still to come in.
Holland v Germany tonight is a big game and you could be watching the two final teams.

From the photo it looks like there's not much in Norway to actually come to a stand still. No wonder the snow makes no difference.
Right on the coast here gingerjon..its a good 100cm away from the shore...go in land and its pretty deep.Next week they are expecting four foot up the north !!!!!!
Apparently this years snow fall has been light but a lot more expected.
Flew out of Oslo airport on friday and the runways where constantly beimg kept open by an army of snow ploughs.
I suppose Scandinavian countries know how to handle snow better than the UK.Here in Holland any light snow causes havoc with the transport system...especialy the road network. The Dutch also bracing themselves for a Siberian cold snap later this week.
-
Snow..you want snow ha ha.....been working in the north of Norway since the new year.Snow all around but the locals are expecting a big white out in the next few weeks. As Paley rightly stated its coming in from Siberia..Alta (69° 56′ 25″ N, 23° 18′ 38″ E) was -17 last week during the day.Northern Lights starting to show also.
Snow is coming and the UK will proberbly come to a stand still

You can get train to Carlisle from Leeds about 08:30 via Preston - (not sure where you are based Leeds or Bradford) then a bus from Carlisle to Whitehaven.
On way back its Whitehaven to Carlisle by bus then Carlisle to Leeds by train via Manchester Piccadilly.
Have the trainline and the traveline (north east and cumbria) open at the same time and you can see the times - its a long day but can be done.
The Settle-Carlisle line must be closed on Sunday as its a bus from Skipton to Carlisle on the Sun morning.
Shaun been there done that marra...looked at all the time tables...trains and buses wont get out of county guys to the game in time and as for return its a no go.
Maybe an over night stop in Ellenboro is needed.

the aim of the RFL should be to try and set up semi pro leagues to form a ladder under the co op leagues and have promotion and relegation if there is the quality and desire not to mention funding to compete with more established clubs.
When lower division union clubs are paying more than championship league clubs how is this achievable.
Guys will play for this
"English National 1 Club Seeks Lock. Player criteria: EU passport or UK ancestry visa. Package: Flights, accommodation, job and match fee up to 200GBP"
Rather MORE than what some established championship clubs can afford.
Take a look at what is on offer to union guys....
English National 2 Club Seeks Lock and Prop. If Overseas, must hold EU passport, UK ancestry visa etc. Package: Negotiable including - Flights, accommodation and job assistance. 100-120GBP match fee. 75 Win Bonus and Small Monthly RetainerEnglish National 2 Club Seeks 12. Player critera: NPC B standard, Sydney first grade etc. EU passport or UK ancestry visa. Package: Flights, accommodation, job and up to 100GBP match fee.
Spanish Division 1 Club Seeks 3. Player criteria: Premier club standard, must hold Spanish passport. Package: Flights, accommodation and up to 1000Euro per month.
English National 2 South Club Seeks 4/5. Player criteria: NPC B, Sydney first grade etc. Must hold EU passport or UK ancestry visa. Package: flights rebate, accommodation, job and match fee around 100GBP.

Indeed, it's a shame it didn't continue.
The Clock Face lads showed up at every event
Apart from the wedding party raid in the George ...

It has existed in various guises from time to time. The last one I am aware of was set up Lionel Hurst and was based at the George Hotel in Huddersfield. My Girlfriend was a director of it for a while. It arranged various fund raising events such as NRL grand final breakfasts etc.
And also helped developing nations. The Dutch benefited from the 1895 International with equipment which was brought over by the first incoming tour team (Rotterdam v Clock Face Miners) in 2004.
The Dutch wore the 1895 logo on their shorts that season when they played Serbia and Scotland Students

Does'nt seem to much of a panic down at Haven... looks like it's a move planned to rescue / save the club.
Even with the club looking at going into administration the council are keen to move ahead with the stadium development.

Thats the difference between union and league.
Kasbian, one of the biggest attractions to young people at the moment show some support,no matter how little it may seem to some people on here.
The RFL should be flashing it all over the news.
Union make a massive world headlines out of some ones fan mail....
For those who dont visit "Cross code forum" as found by Paley.
WAY behind in the promotional / publicty stakes.

Seeing as England are the host nation surely holding any games in Wales or France would make us a laughing stock? Has the likes of Footy, RU, the Olympics, or an other sport (apart from the Tour de France which may have a stage in another Country? Belgium? Or is that another Tour?) held a game/event outside of the host nation?
1999 RU world cup was hosted by Wales but games played in Ireland (North and Republic),Scotland,England and even France.
In total 18 stadiums where used from Galashiels (6,000 capacity) to Staad France (80,000).
Only three Welsh grounds where used,Millennium,Wrexham and Llanelli.
2007 RU world cup was hosted by France but had games in Scotland and Wales.
Regarding your cycle racing
BOTH the Tour de France and the Tour of Italy started in Holland this year. One in Amsterdam and one in Rotterdam.
Tour de France also went through Belgium.
