From the Beaumont Hetherington statement in League Express March 12th 2025.
“The review will encompass the “whole of the game” and will solicit views from as wide a cross section as possible, engaging the views of all clubs, and to include those of our biggest assets, our partners and supporters."
“It is aimed to have this work undertaken, for presentation to the RFL Council at the next scheduled meeting in July, when members will have their say on the best way forward. This is not intended to be a long drawn-out process but a prompt, transparent and effective one that delivers outcomes and produce results the game needs to achieve."
It's July 1st tomorrow. Which fans have been asked for their views?

Watched Rod Stewart last night. Great show, with him, 80, Ronnie Wood 78, Lulu 76, Mick Hucknall 65.

Maybe the leap of faith point was too clumsy a description. There can absolutely be numbers associated with principles to show the size of the prize.
Personally I just dont see these gaps that you call out. The reimagining RL document does outline the vision and what they are aiming for.
They have outlined the plan. A key part of that plan was to drive up standards of clubs so that you can increase number of clubs from a position of strength. That's being undermined now.
They have laid out what the plan is, with some exceptions, but this does come back to it being a 12 year deal and not a 12m piece.
Re the "leap of faith". I'd like to explain it in terms of "best practice" as identified by IMG because of their experience and track record across time, across geographies, across cultures and across sectors. This is something that the new RFL will never be able to match in any way if it kicks out IMG.

Is that really the only reason it is being torn up? I may have missed something, or forgotten something. But I've not heard a single club express any praise or confidence in IMG in the last year to 18 months. I think if they had laid out a plan to the clubs that would lead to income being generated within a particular timeframe, then Johnson would still be RFL chair, until the end of the season anyway.
But I've not heard a single club express any praise or confidence in IMG in the last year to 18 months.
if you were to rely on League Express content, then yes, you wouldn't have.
In my day, we ancients had a saying, "Rome wasn't built lin a day."
The equivalent in some rugby league circles is, "Where's that city you promised we'd all build together? After all, you've had all day to build it."

Perhaps he'd have been better saying, "Clearly I didn't agree with the ref and the video ref but I'm going to talk to the the RFL to try to understand why they reached that decision. I'm certainly not going to go into this in public, straight after the game."

Nigel Wood is tearing it up to get Bradford Bulls into SL. This will further lower playing standards in SL and there's no plan for the non-SL clubs. It's a joke.
So much for the game being re-imagined by IMG. It's now just being made up on the spot by Wood.
Nigel Wood is tearing it up to get Bradford Bulls into SL.
I firmly believe this was a condition of him taking the reins. All decided in beer-fumed back rooms somewhere sordid.

Outcome exactly as expected. Caution: Saints must not base any GF hopes and expectations on todays performance or result.

GH wouldn't have gone down there just to faff about in the lower leagues for years. He will be in the know.
Not just "in the know" . He IS the know, one of the architects of the conclusions of the clubledwholegamestrategicreview.

Yeah, 'he's one of us' says the lad from Swinton!
.
I've told you before, I was born in Manchester, brought up in Swinton in a house with electric lighting upstairs aswell as downstairs, with an inside toilet and bathroom, educated in Swinton, Salford and Oldham, lived in Cheshire and in Lincolnshire for just as long as I did in Swinton. Even did two years in Atherton and worse still, seven years or so in Yorkshire.
I decide which team I will support based on what I want.

Correct, but it was still a howler that went Wigan's way.
Gosh! Didn't expect that opinion from you.

It must be remembered that all this was pre-ordained by the plotters. Bradford, London to join the 12 , no matter what. Wood = Bradford, Hetherington = London

Very proud of the team tonight. Great, also, to see Padge playing holier than thou again
Some things will never change, is it a Wigan thing?
Padge playing holier than thou again.
Maybe thats because he is.

Feel sorry for Danny McGuire. He'll probably get a fine for giving a truly honest and 100% justified answer to a question that he should have every right to answer honestly. The decision was abysmal and completely incorrect and everyone knows it.
Fine, or compulsory refereeing course, or anger management course, or all three?

McGuire just got himself a big fine.
Petulant player, petulant coach.
Grow up Danny.
Sadly, I missed that. iPlayer cut off immediately after the final whistle. What did he say?

We barely deserved that win. But a win is a win.

Without detracting in any way from Castlefords superiority, it's as if someone's put something in Wigan's tea.

RFL Investments 2020
Appointment of Mr Nigel Jonathan Wood as a director on 3 June 2025
So no info on money.
ditto RL Commercial Last accounts made up to 31 December 2023 before he became a Director.
-
As I recall, or understand, Wood was to head up the Clubledwholegamestrategicreview without paying (possibly an expenses-only arrangement?).
Now he is Director of
RL COMMERCIAL LIMITED
THE RUGBY FOOTBALL LEAGUE LIMITED
RFL (GOVERNING BODY) LIMITED
RFL INVESTMENTS 2020 LIMITED
RUGBY LEAGUE SOLUTIONS LIMITED
has this arrangement changed? Is he now earning income, wages, payment, pension contributions, shares, dividends, etc?

Hetherington was one of the prime movers in the recent putsch. You'd think he'd have a better handle on things than letting this absolute nonsense happen. X, formetlly known as Twitter. Hounds, formerly known as Broncos ..a sure illustration of our shrinking game.
London Broncos deny reported London Hounds rebrand
“‘The Hounds’ is a name that has been recommended and registered although we reiterate that no decision has been made....As soon as the Club is in a position to update fans with any news this will be announced accordingly through the official channels.”
The quote "What's in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet" comes from William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. It means that the essence or qualities of something are not defined or changed by its name.

Shades of Leeds vs Leigh last night, but at a much higher level.
SL clubs look to reinstate Nigel Wood.

If the New Old Kids on the Block are going to try to get more money out of Sky, or to try to get a new TV partner, then they'll have to have enough cards in their hands.
Sky will know exactly the value they are getting from their SuperLeague rights and if that value is trivial (subscriptions and ad revenue minus costs?) then they can just walk away from any quit threats from Wood . Of course, we don't know what money Sky make from SuperLeague so work needs doing there.
So the RFL needs to work on a value proposition and although Wood is an accountant, maybe he needs help in creating the value proposition to put before Sky and it's competitors.
If only I could find one to suggest. One that has a long term track record of success in multiple sports, across the whole world.
I Must Get looking for one.
