  1. The problem there, in some ways, is that the team that qualifies isn't the one that will play in the 4 Nations. I can see the attraction of the near-retirement players giving it one last go to help their team qualify but, really, you want to ensure as far as possible that the best team in Europe in 2011 makes the 4N.

Happens in the WC, so why not the 4N?

  2. Agree with you one hundred per cent: I would love to see Briers come out of International retirement and play for Wales. I'm hoping that Iestyn can persuade him to play. To qualify for next year's 4 Nations would be an immense achievement for Welsh RL.

Would be good if they both came back for one last swansong. Cunningham is retiring this season, so I think he'd probably want to call it a day after the play-offs.

  3. "a" is singular and "criteria" is plural." In the English language they are meant to agree.

So I accidentally put an "a" in the sentence. It was late at night when I replied.

If that's the sole purpose of your argument that your criteria isn't stupid, then I rest my case. It's one of the first internet forum argument "tricks" for people who are desperate.

I won't uncover the grammatical errors in your post, by the way. I'm not that desperate (and someone else already has).

I won't call you stupid because I know that your mind has been focused lately on deeper issues, like how many grounds you have been to where you have sat in all stands. The world has been waiting to know the answer to that one for decades!

I hope you aren't trying to sarcastically claim that you yourself are uncovering deeper issues here? Because all you seem to have done is attract ridicule for such an idiotic thread as per.

My thread was just for fun. And on top of that, it seems to have uncovered an issue that many people have that they didn't realise: that they tend to always stay in the same area when they go to a ground. Many people have said they want to try and move around a bit as a result.

Try Belle Vue for a start. Then try the Willows for seconds...

If you stand a bit more towards the corner, you can see everything in one view.

I don't see how having a panoramic view is the requirement of a 21st-century stadium anyway? Very few people would like to be so far away from the acion that, although they can see everything, everthing is tiny (hence why Odsal is often criticised). Why do you think the seats towards the corners and and the top tiers (the ones with the most panoramic views) are cheaper?

Here's an idea - try turning your head at a game. Then you can see the whole pitch and it's a lot closer!

Oh, and before you start calling other people idiots, try learning the difference between "criterion" and "criteria." You are a native English speaker I take it.

It's quite clear that I meant "criteria" as was originally used, as there is more than one illogical criterion in your original post. It's the "a" that shouldn't have been there if it bothers you that much. Surely you knew that?

Now, if your going to question whether I know what "a" means, then you're truly clutching at straws!

This is an RL forum, not an English Language one. Use a bit of savvy.

  4. best i can hope for but unlikely to happen

    Remaining fixtures:

    8th Castleford: Leeds (H), Harlequins (H), St Helens (A). 22 points

    --------------------------------The----------------Play-Off----------------Line--------------------------------

9th Crusaders RL: Harelequins (H), Hull FC (A), St Helens (A), Hull KR (H). 22 points

[cas stay in 8th on points diff

Looks fairly likely to me. Reckon Wakey could be on 22pts as well. They should beat Bradford and Salford.

  5. Just a bit of a twist on the old "how many grounds have you been to?" topics we've had in the past.

How many grounds in the northern hemisphere have you been to to watch rugby league which have a panoramic view of the playing field from at least one sideline stand, and which have decent toilet facilities (extensive urinals and sit down closed cubicles for men, and multiple sit down enclosed cubicles for women)?

    What a stupid criteria.

Panoramic views?! They're available at every ground in SL you idiot. Tell me one ground that doesn't offer a panoramic view...

Or extensive urinals and multiple sit down enclosed cubicles for that matter...

  6. I have to say your Aussies were the difference. Quins just didn't have the experience. Pretty amazing that the Quine now field just 1 or 2 overseas players. If only some of the heartlands teams followed our lead, we might offer a bit more internationally (not meant to be a dig at Hull, just very impressed with what the Quins are doing)

Not necessarily. You yourself have just said they lacked the experience. Sometimes you need these imports in to lend experience to those around them to aid their development.

Take away all the experienced Aussies and we'd have a much worse England team. That doesn't mean I think we should fill SL with imports either. There just needs to be a good balance.

  7. A really important game for Hull this one IMO because defeat here may well drag them into a battle with the teams in 6th and 7th place.

Totally agree. And on the flip-side, if we win and Wigan beat Leeds tonight, we're back to the all important 4th place.

    Leeds (29pts) - Wigan (h), Cas (a), Catalans (h), Hull (a).

    Hull FC (28pts) - Quins (a), Crusaders (h), Wire (a), Leeds (h).

    Hudds (25pts) - Wakey (h), Wigan (a), Salford (h), Catalans (a).

    Hull KR (25pts) - Cas (h), Salford (a), Wigan (h), Crusaders (h).

I can see Leeds losing tonight, and Hull losing against Wire, and most likely both "should" win the other two games on paper, meaning it could come down to the last game of the season for 4th.

Alternatively, Hull have been beaten by all of the teams remaining already this year. Both Hudds and Rovers have got 3 very winnable games, with a difficult game against the league leaders. If they were to win 3 out of the 4, then Hull will need to win 2 out of 4 at most to keep 5th. So these games are "must wins".

    Nothing's decided yet!

  8. Fixture Change

Warrington Wolves' away fixture against Harlequins RL will now be played on Friday 3rd September, kick-off 8pm at Twickenham Stoop (originally Saturday 4th).

The rescheduling of this fixture follows police advice given to the Harlequins club. The original date would have clashed with the Premiership Rugby London Double Header at Twickenham Stadium, and could not go ahead for safety reasons.

Please note, as with all fixtures taking place on the final weekend of the season, this match is subject to SKY selection which will be made no later than August 22nd.

    http://www.warringtonwolves.org/fixture-change-3585

So its clear now who wears the boots down in Twickers! :O

    Yes... the Police!

  9. If

Having a good group one season doesnt define a successful youth structure, 6th this year so far i believe

Wakefields away support is on a par with ours, and thats ###### all to shout about

As good as Leeds and Wigans

Exactly what I was thinking. If it's not an "if something happens", it's just a lie!

Wakefield's away support being as good as Leeds' and Wigan's is laughable! They don't give out franchises for that, anyway.

And as for youth development... how many of these young players have gone on to be SL regulars at Wakefield? 11 overseas players this last weekend. If they were that good, surely they'd figure more in your squad?

  10. Okay - in a nutshell here's why it is worst:

Which, again, wasn't my question. the question was why is Belle Vue and The Willows better? I'll explain my point as I go through yours...

1/ Very little cover proportional to the amount of terracing, i.e. most folk get wet if it rains.

Same as at Belle Vue, and to some extent The Willows (the away stand only has cover for the seats IIRC, not the terrace in front of it).

And, on top of this, if folks were bothered about getting wet, then there is probably enough seating to cover 3/4 of their average crowd this year at Odsal. Could the same be done at Belle Vue? Not a chance.

2/ Terracing and stands are too far away from the pitch for a proper RL viewing, thus losing atmosphere (especially for the TV viewing experience). This is the biggest issue I have with Odsal

As opposed to Belle Vue, which has awful terracing at pitch-side. If you're at the front, you're actually below pitch level. The terracing isn't steep enough, so you can't really see very well above the people in front of you.

I'd rather be too far away and be able to see the whole pitch than too low down and see nothing.

3/ The other end of the pitch is a complete joke with the makeshift blob of a building (Hwy didn't they build a stand? Did they think they would be on the move when that thing was built?)

As opposed to Belle Vue's block of flats? Or The Willows' club house? They make that "blob" look like Buckingham Palace!

By the way your stats say it all. The general downwards trend is really alarming. Wonder what it will be this year

My stats do say it all. Your points before about their crowds only being good a decade ago were way off.

I agree about the dip being alarming though. I've started threads about it in the past and been told to shush by Bradford fans in the past. But then again, I'm a Bradford Sympathiser apparently...

So, to sum up... every point you made can be attributed to Belle Vue and the Willows. And in fact, they're probably worse at those places...

  11. Ah, the Bradford-sympathiser! What's up are you frightened you upset the Bullys on here?

I sympathise not. I just don't like illogical arguments that have been proven so time and time again.

The difference between Bradford and Wakey/Salford, is that Bradford WERE (past tense) successful and DID GET (past tense) good crowds about 10 years ago. I think the RFL still seems them as such even though they are not anymore. As such I think the RFL has turned a blind eye to what is a shocking modern-day stadium (there is hardly any cover FFS).

    You just spouting rubbish again.

    Define good crowds?

2003 (when they moved back to Odsal) was 7 years ago, not 10. Not that that was the last time they got "good crowds".

Let's have a look since they moved back to Odsal...

    2003 - 14,936 (best in SL)

    2004 - 13,500 (2nd best)

    2005 - 13,367 (3rd best)

    2006 - 11,263 (3rd best)

    2007 - 12,084 (4th best)

    2008 - 10,287 (5th best)

    2009 - 9,677 (5th best)

    2010 - 8,642 (6th best)

They still posted five-figure crowds 2 years ago, which I would consider the benchmark for "good crowds".

They're still in the top 6 of SL crowd averages despite a HUGE drop in attendances over the last 7 years. So if they have poor crowds, then most of SL is in a worse state.

As for your last comment, I actually think it is a much WORSE ground than Belle Vue and the Willows, and Wheldon Road. I would rather watch RL in those grounds.

That doesn't answer the question. How is Odsal "much WORSE" than the two grounds I mentioned?

"I would rather watch RL in these grounds" isn't an answer. Why would you?

If Bradford could put a cover on the terraces, and move the terraces toward the pitch, and get 20k gates there would be no issues. But this ain't going to happen unless they can re-incarnate peter Deakin

So Bradford have to get 20k crowds (more than any SL club has achieved on more than 3 occasions in a single season)? That's a ridiculous benchmark for a poor argument.

  12. Who is not solvent in SL?

In all seriosness though why on Earth were Bradford not one of the clubs warned? Is it because purely and simply they are a city club? I think it is?

Odsal is quite honestly the most inappropriate stadium in SL, and does not give RL a good image on TV (even worse with sky cameras which do not give "bigger picture" angles like the SL show/BBC. Also the club does not own the stadium

Ask yourself this - If Fax or Batley had an Odsal like stadium, in all but name, would they be considered for SL. The answer is NO

Bradfords crowd also do not justify not being considered for the chop. I seriosuly question their last grading

When I get bored, I read this forum on my phone. The screen isn't big enough to fit the whole page on, so I just browse through the posts and can't see which users are posting what unless I scroll to the side. Incidentally, I can tell every time it's a "Lobbygobbler" post, simply because it includes some illogic about how Bradford have the worst ground in the SL or shouldn't be in the SL, etc.

Wakefield and Salford are city clubs. They were warned. So that's that weird theory out of the way. But it won't stop you arguing it.

The club doesn't own its stadium is a pretty new one for you. How many clubs in the SL do? Why does it matter? And, according to Wikipedia (not the best source of knowledge, I know), the Bulls have controlling rights of the stadium after taking them back from the council after they left Valley Parade.

Odsal wasn't inapproporiate when they used to get good crowds there. It wasn't THAT long ago. What do you expect clubs to do? Just knock down parts of the stadium if the crowds dip? It's a much better ground than Belle Vue and the Willows. You know this. I know this. Everyone knows this. But you will still argue that it isn't. So let's change the question from "Why is Odsal the worst ground" to "How are Belle Vue and The Willows better than Odsal?"

    Change the record.

Why am I wasting my time?

  13. Trinity won the Academy championship last year so they clearly develop excellent young players. Plus when they have a star English player another team buys them.

Surely development is only when they translate into SL players? If all of them youngsters end up going off into the Championship because they aren't getting SL games, then there is a flaw in the development, surely?

  14. So do clubs lose one home game against their biggest rival or is this another game to add to the fixture list?

Replaces some clubs' home fixtures. Probably Leeds and closest team to Elland Road out of Hudds/Wakey/Cas (whoever plays that game) and Saints and Widnes at Anfield (as they are both plastic scousers!).

A full round of fixtures to start off the season, doesn't matter where.

An absolute must. And I can't believe it hasn't happened for 5 years.

  15. Double headers in January/February I aren't too sure about. Too cold, and it's the main part of the football season so we'll struggle to get grounds.

If we're going to restructure the season, I'd like to see it come in the season we have the new franchises.

What about double headers at Easter?

Thursday - Hull FC vs Hull KR.

Friday Afternoon - Leeds vs Bradford and Huddersfield vs Cas/Wakey/Salford (whoever is left after 2012) at Elland Road

Friday Evening - Saints vs Wigan and Widnes vs Warrington at Anfield.

Would love to see England vs France and Wales as we have now (during regular SL round), as well as England vs ANZACs on a free weekend.

Magic Weekend at Newcastle on the 2nd BH Weekend in May.

Challenge Cup semis a double header.

  16. World Champions in what sense?

They have been World Champions in reality every time they have won the NRL Premiership.

No they haven't. They have been the best in the Southern Hemisphere every time they won the NRL. Get over it.

If you mean the mickey mouse game played in Feb/March each year in England against a team with 1/2 a dozen games under their belt under local refs and local conditions at home against an Oz team in pre season straight off a plane then it would be 1 with 3 runners up.

Australian team straight off the plane? You mean they don't come a 2 weeks before the game and play a warm up game against a SL side before it? Oh they do? Not straight off the plane then, is it?

And your local ref comment is laughable. This year's ref was English. The 3 years before that were Australian.

The last time there was a fair indication of Club sides was back in the SL war days.

I guess you don't want to talk about those results against the weaker side of the Australian SL war.

So the last time it was fair was the time you pick in history that you conveniently won most of the time? Yes, that's a really fair indication!

Super League club after Super League club have stated they would love to play the NRL champions in Australia. It's just that the NRL clubs are so bottleless they'd hate to risk humiliation on their home turf. Every year the champs of SL say they'll go over there, and every year nothing happens.

Wigan won fair and square and caught Brisbane out ( it was a long time ago Mate)

One of 3 games from around 20 played in the Southern Hemisphere.

The top SL side would not beat the top NRL side with all things being equal.

NRL cast offs are stars in those SL sides.

Look at Leeds, who would make a top NRL club from Leeds? who would even make an NRL Club?

Burgess and Ellis are going ok and their Clubs this year are performing well but they are traditionally Clubs that do not make the finals

Another "Australia are amazing, England are useless" boring rant.

Peacock would walk into an NRL side. Burrow and McGuire would get in. Senior would have in his day. Ellis has already made it in the NRL from Leeds. I reckon Sinfield would get in also. There are some absolutely garbage players in the NRL. They aren't all amazing.

Plenty of players that are "amazing" in the NRL end up coming here and being terrible.

    thoughtful response.

Send Leeds down to Brisbane in May to play St George and see how they go.

At least they will have played some competitive games before the game.

Why send Leeds (who are 5th) to play St George (who are 1st)? A bit favourable conditions again from the person who wants "all things fair". How about we send Wigan?

I recall the Storm beating Leeds last year in a crappy game.

Is this the same side that cheated to win the NRL?

The year before Manly tore Leeds a new bum in around 8 minutes before easing off.

And they deserved to win. Leeds were terrible.

Year before that Leeds beat the Storm in a Storm with plenty of dubious tactics including some Storm players being carried off and a ref that was one eyed.

The ref was Australian. And again, the same Melbourne side that won the NRL by cheating.

I declare you a typical whinging Aussie. We've got enough of them on these forums, thanks. You bring nothing new.
