I think there is more an issue with the system allowing for fixtures over a distance rather than an issue with Carcassonne joining, and I tend to agree.
I think it's immensely important that we have a system that allows clubs on small budgets to be sustainable, progress and grow; as well as ambitious clubs to invest and achieve accelerated progression regardless of whether they're from Barcelona or West Yorkshire. We don't currently have that. We have a mixture of different level teams traveling huge distances, failing to establish themselves and losing interest as a result. It's an utter failure of a system that isn't benefiting anyone and adding Carcassonne into that mix won't help.
Beneath SL, IMO there needs to be a larger emphasis on regionality, with opportunity for national/intercontinental competition. Eastern, Western, Southern and French divisions that come together at the end will hopefully stop everyone complaining about travel. We focus so much on player development that we ignore the establishments need to actually generate them!

Like i said, the big boys are left.Â
Enjoy the secondary compÂ
The Women's SL is a premier comp. The Championship (being the second tier) is by definition a secondary comp!
But you won't find any "big boys" in the women's SL I guess.

Preferred the old top 5 system which gave genuine reward for finishing higher up the table.
My only issue with it was likelihood of trust fixtures. There a good chance you get 2v3 in weeks 1 and 3, as well as 1v2 in weeks 2 and 4. When you've already got loop systems in the league and the CC, it's a bit much.

I like the top 5, but I feel the current system is probably best in terms of simplicity and reward. It's hard to explain it to casual fans that you get a second chance and the many different scenarios it can bring. The current playoffs are basically quarter final stages with top 2 having a bye to the semis. Easy to explain. If we ever went to 14 and decided to go top 7, it's easy enough to just give 1st a bye and everyone else in quarters.
I think for British sporting culture purposes, the simpler we make it, the more likely we are to get people on board. I think the McIntyre system is genius, but genius isn't always the best seller!

1100 tickets available for Leigh at NCP , but a nightmare finding coaches for a 4-30 depart to Hull
I'm guessing the game days are set on league positions, but having the local derby on the Friday night would have made more sense!

Looking at the potential fixtures for the playoffs, there's no reason why there couldn't be huge crowds all round.
Rovers and Leigh will be on a high, and the ground isn't huge so could make a big push to sell out. Leigh will travel well for their biggest league game in years and Rovers haven't had a home playoff for a long time.
Saints v Warrington is a local derby.
Catalans have 2 weeks to sell out a smaller-sized ground and will feel that could make the final.
Wigan will be guaranteed a derby also, so could tempt people to buy early and build a huge crowd.
EDIT - scratch that, Saints wouldn't play Wigan if they got through, they'd play Catalans. But a Leigh game would still be a derby, and Rovers take 100,000 away so should still be a good crowd!
-
I suppose a different question is should they rebrand? What's the future of Swinton? Especially as a nomadic club with no chance of a new stadium in their actual town. What sort of crowds are they getting? What's the age like?

York finish with a points difference of 0 after 27 rounds. Can't imagine that's happened many times before!
5 city teams in the playoffs.

Staying integrated might be the issue though! Don't want those doors coming off!

If Mr Ellis brings in any kind of ‘big cat’ kit, merchandise, nickname or whatever I’m out! Other than that I’m in!Â
Well if they stick with Trinity, they could always have 3 mascots of God, Jesus and a dove. Can't imagine they would connect with everyone though!

Had 3 sides until 1998 I believe. Definitely had 4 in 2000.

And I suppose under Yipyee's plan, the monies to finance a Bradford stadium where would they come from?
And if FC were to be the sacrificial team in Hull, you would be attending Craven Park getting supporting the Robin's I take it?
I wasn't exactly endorsing his plan, was I?

I find it strange that a very big city like Bradford can't help fund a decent multi use stadium in the mould of say the sports village in Leigh.....half a million people in Bradford is it? Is it one of those bankrupt councils?
When I lived in Bradford for a short period, it really seemed to be the city of starting protects and never finishing them!

And they're putting the league leaders shield away...

They need to try something different, like a little chip over the top.

I've long said we should. Playing that game at places like Leigh and Warrington as the supposed safe bet, despite many RL fans just turning up their noses at France as opposition, is just crazy.
It's like the opposite of what's being said here about Tonga. Southerners would turn their noses up at little Tonga as viable national competitors to a country our size. Big powerful France however...

So we play France down south then?

So McGuire to Cas and Peters to Leeds? Surely not. You'd think if Peters is leaving, McGuire might as well stay as their head coach?
