Ah, the Retronaut, what a website!
This time, it is 1950 and a young chorus girl called Audrey Hepburn first catches the public eye.

Animal Soccer World. You only need to watch about a minute of this, because it is all as bad as that minute, if not worse. Made by Dingo Pictures and also incorporated into a computer game (hence the PS2 reference in the YouTube title).
The glacial pacing, the beyond-clumsy dubbing, the terrible drawing, the utter dullness of the plot, the imbecilic script, the copyright infringements, the horror... the horror...

Another track from the Monkees' new album, this time written by Andy Partridge out of off of XTC. And, as a fan-service, it has been matched to a bit of vintage Legs & Co. footage, with the lovely Sue Menhenick front'n'centre in the skimpiest bikini of all.

I was going to start a new thread about Scottish football crowds (or lack of them) , but I thought I would post on here.
Celtics match on Sunday was watched by 47,877
The rest of the Premiership drew 33,952 in total, that's 13,925 less than Celtic, ranging from Hearts 15438, down to Inverness Cali's 3587, how do they survive? Just on the visit of the Glasgow giants?
If this is accurate, their TV deal doesn't look like it's enough to sustain much: http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/13204244.State_of_Scottish_Football__Does_the_TV_deal_represent_value_for_money_/
A total of just £15 million (between Sky, BT and the BBC) for a season of 86 matches?

I was out walking with my 6 year old last weekend. The weather was typically April Showers with sun shining through the light rain. I mentioned that there might well be a rainbow and we started to scan the sky only to be disappointed. At that point, he piped up with "maybe it's still loading ".

From 1.40, a certain Huddersfield Giant is mentioned.
I wonder where that reference came from. Was the commentator aware of the Big Daddy connection, or was it something else. Strange.

Just over halfway though tonight's BBC4 programme Forest, Field and Sky: Art out of Nature. Very good, especially the segment on Andy Goldsworthy. And if you don't know who Goldsworthy is, do an internet image search for his name and see some of his work.

Animal's a veteran of these drum battles. He took on Buddy Rich once.
And here it is! the greatest drummer in the world... and Buddy plays a few paradiddles too!

Anyhoo, guess which DVD box set I just found at the back of a high shelf in the living room?

Just watched Chelsea v Spurs on MoTD. I'm not sure I got the right sport though, stamping, gouging, cynical off-the-ball hits.
I know what you mean. it looked... almost Corinthian.

Warrington fans, start your songwriting careers early...

And that's it! Leicester's first ever championship confirmed! What a refreshingly unexpected season.

A pretty foul-tempered match at Stamford bridge tonight, but as it stands, Leicester are champions!

The recently deceased Billy Paul.

I've just picked up Voice Of The Beehives first two albums... I can hear the sniggers ! But they released some catchy pop songs my favourite Monsters and Angels is a cracker.
There's a name I haven't heard in years.
I just checked out 'Monsters and Angels' on YouTube and it came back to me straight away. I don't remember seeing the Edward Hopper-esque video before, though.

No shame in that, it's some of the finest pop music ever committed to disc.
There's always been a lot of lofty sneering from the so-called 'serious' end of the music spectrum towards pop music.
The truth is, it's just as hard (if not harder) to craft a really good, hooky pop song as it is to make a worthy punk polemic that "keeps it real", or a dreadfully serious rock epic that "addresses important issues".

Oh I do; I now listen to all sorts of stuff that was considered a bit naff when I was young enough to care about such things.
Mark Kermode's Celluloid Jukebox series on Radio 2 championed 'The Porpoise Song' from the Monkees' psychedelic movie, Head, just the other day. And there are some other excellent songs on that soundtrack too.

Obviously not quite the same without Davy Jones, but not as bad as I feared.
I know it's probably not a cool thing to say but I've always been a fan of The Monkees. Always thought they were very underrated.
A good band, whether playing their own later material or the early pre-fab stuff, which is also excellent. Irk the purists and enjoy the music for what it is.
I have a few of Michael Nesmith's solo LPs too, which are very good.

The first single from the Monkees forthcoming album 'Good Times'.

Light snow for about 10 minutes here in North London. As underwhelming as it sounds.

Happy Days? I see no Fonzie, no Joanie, no Ralph Malph... and I'm sure the theme tune was a little different too.Happy days
