Are those who play outside the M62 heartlands not "true supporters"? To my mind these hard-working "missionaries" who have gone on to found successful small clubs outside of the heartlands have more right to the title "true supporter" than someone who is happy to abandon them in a consolidation on the heartlands.
Unfortunately, that's not an uncommon mindset. There are those who think that only born-and-bred Northerners deserve Rugby League and that nobody else can possibly be a 'true' fan or hold a valid opinion on the sport.
The whole wording of this petition could not be better designed to be ignored by the RFL. It comes across as paranoid, backward-looking and entirely negative.

I got my copy yesterday - a bit late, but it takes a lot to make me visit Brent Cross, even for such an august publication. Someone had hidden the RLWs again, BTW.
I've only dipped in to a couple of articles so far, but it, once again, looks very good. I hadn't got to Cliff's exemplary diary, so the news in this thread was a shock. He will be missed by everyone, I'm sure.

I listened to this match on Radio 5 and reckoned Warrington were going to win after Wigan didn't make enough of their opponents' appalling ball retention in the first half.
I suppose it keeps the top of the table close, but still a bit disappointing.

Last year Roosters signed a South African teenager
Although he seems to have already returned to RU, signing for the new Melbourne Rebels franchise.

I was in a bar last week with alligator listed as a special. Unfortunately it wasn't available so I missed the opportunity.
I've had crocodile burgers, purchased from OsGrow Online, which were nice. White meat, and a mild flavour, by the way.

11 Years of Hurt: Wigan RLFC.
11 years of magnanimity, as Wigan let the little teams win for a change.

My snails were not too bad.
Drowned in garlic butter to the max.
They were dense and chewy, 'rubbery' isn't quite the correct description though. Someone likened them to prawns in texture, I said they were more like those banana foam sweets. Taste-wise, quite earthy, although that might be me as I knew they were snails, etc.
I think I will make steak tartare next.
Snails can be very rubbery, from personal experience. They need plenty of cooking time to soften them up.

Hey, my post was tongue-in-cheek, okay?
From what I remember of the story Garry was stitched up more than a bit in his first foray into coaching. Let's hope he can bring the South Africans along a bit.

"Right lads, todays game is absolutely rubbish, and you're not nearly as good as the players of the 70s and 80s. Here's a jar of wintergreen and four orange segments, let's go discuss why the 6 tackle rule was a bad idea."
Surely it'd be more like "Right, hands up anyone from Lancashire or Yorkshire! What, none of you? You shouldn't be playing Rugby League, then. I'd advise you to give up, 'cause it'll never work out."

Reason enough, in that one post, why a time machine absolutely must be invented. That'd be one hell of a team to watch if you assembled them in their prime.
Interesting that none of the Wigan selections so far have included Brett Kenny.
I remember 2GB had a phone-in on all-time best selections. One guy rang in with his selection for the Hunter Mariners.

Friday at the Stoop is the most important game of the season for mine.
You can tell he's been doing commentary, can't you?

It's got as much to do with me as it has with anyone else in this country.
I responded to a suggestion that the MM weekend and Challenge cup be scrapped and that Londoners and Cumbrians choose either team or don't get invited to the party and quite frankly it's one of the most ludicrous and insular suggestions I've ever seen on this board.
The Challenge Cup is part of Rugby League's heritage and should be given far more prominence by the RFL than it currently gets, part of the attraction of it (and in my view of the FIFA world cup as well) is that everyone has an involvement so the event itself is given a huge boost to start and then develops a momentum of it's own. Casual viewers become engaged and then some will maintain that engagement through the competition as their team drops out and then beyond the finish of the event.
The "Magic" weekend was one of the few innovations from Rugby League that may have actually helped spread the word, I went to the first one in Cardiff and thoroughly enjoyed it (despite meeting some dodgy characters...Johnoco ) I went with other "casual" RL fans and since then we have all been to several Harlequins games and took a bigger group to the second weekend. In my view (for what it's worth) this event is worth persevering with, it will take time to develop it so it becomes an event in and of itself, an event that will get people attending who are not dyed in the wool RL fans but rather who will attend a number of "big" events through the year, British GP, Grand National, 6Nations, Henley Regatta.......Actually probably not Henley.
Dropping that potential for a parochial ersatz copy of an Australian event sends out all the wrong signals about the vibrant national growing sport of Rugby League.
Whether you care about NSW or Queensland is irrelevant to the running of the Aussie SOO competition but whether people from Cheltenham, Winchester or Margate give a Rat's ###### about Yorkshire vs Lancashire is entirely relevant to the running of a UK competition.
Plenty of good points there.
I remember watching the last Yorks v Lancs/Cheshire/Greater Manchester and it was terrible, with a poor turnout and a mediocre spectacle on the field.
Remember, also, that when State of Origin was first suggested, it was derided by just about everyone as a gimmicky concept that would never work. And maybe if that first match hadn't been such a classic, it might have withered away like the War of the Roses.
So there's a bit of luck involved, because you can't guarantee a classic match ahead of the event.
Failing everything else, get the whole England squad together, appoint two captains and let 'em pick the teams, school playground style. Winner of the coin toss gets first pick, then they alternate.

Not a helpful comment from Mundine. Is this well founded or is he just a bit bitter?
A little from column 'A', a little from column 'B'. Recent events have shown there is some problem, at whatever level, but he's got a massive chip on his shoulder about not getting to play for the Kangaroos.
And he's a rentagob, who can't help shooting his mouth off, whether he has something worth saying or not.

Cymande II - really got the crowd going and got the sun to come out on Sunday

This book might interest you (and others).
It covers Spain by region, with stunning photography, interesting stuff about Spanish food and culture, as well as recipes. Borders had some of the 'Culinaria' collection on sale, before they closed down, and I still regret not buying more volumes in the series while they were cheap.

I shall be cooking a Spanish fish stew on Sunday for my wife's birthday.
Sounds interesting - what's your recipe?

Paleaasina, Pryce, Reardon, Bailey, Walker, Raynor, Cockayne, Hock. Seems like you've got plenty anyway. And if you want to look at actual crime stats I'll take Australia over the UK any day. The point is, English clubs are still desperate to sign NRL, and even second teir players, any way they can.
WHHHHOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHH!

bump, just for the hell of it.

Why thank you good sir for bothering, as a newby trying to establish himself amongst the established clique members and not knowing exactly thread for thread, post for post, what has already been discussed over the last 5 years so hang me for not knowing!!
i appreciate your response.
The other thread on Bridge was started only 3 days ago.
To be fair, the thread had slipped to page 2, so maybe you weren't to know, but your response was a little paranoid.
Another rugby movie?
