It's easy to get depressed about the statistics on various species of bird being in decline, either in this country or elsewhere or both. However, in a UK context, the egret family are doing well and give us something to be cheerful about.
It's interesting, Ullman, that you are now seeing little egrets in the East Riding. I saw my first, decades ago, in France and got very excited at the time. Then they spread across the channel, initially I suspect to over-winter on river estuaries, and then they began to breed here. I know see them in quite urban contexts (eg flying over and within Salisbury city centre), and at all times of year.
Next, there were occasional sightings of wintering great white egrets, and now they are sometimes reported in places like old mineral working based bird reserves in totals up to four or five (eg that sort of number at Blashford Lakes between Salisbury and Bournemouth, just the other day)
And now, on top of all that, we seem to be getting increasing numbers of cattle egrets too. There are currently nine spending their time in a field near Romsey, in Hampshire.
So, if you haven't seen great white and cattle egrets up your way yet, Ullman, keep looking! I am sure that they too, like their smaller, daintier relatives, will gradually spread north up the country!
As predicted by your good self WWD, cattle egrets have arrived in the area.

Despite your emoji's, your jokes are very boring and no-one is laughing at them, just give it up and go and celebrate your rivals getting stuffed and less importantly your team qualifying for the play-offs,
Oh I don't know. It definitely raised a titter from me.
Then again it doesn't take much.

If you can play badly and win, totally shutting out an attack with the capability to score a lot of points in the process, then I take that as a good sign of my team’s progression.
I also think it probably had just a little more quality than was on display at the MKM earlier on…
More intensity I'll give you but that was it. Fair play though, Rovers never looked like conceding last night.

That's a neat link to Jamie Shaul announcing his retirement. He made his debut for us at Wakefield that day, Easter Monday 2013.
Thanks for the memories Shauly, immortality was assured in that one moment in 2016 that will live forever.

I'm not surprised you've enjoyed the season, your lot have done very well. And having a local team in the play offs means I can really get behind a team in the race for the SL title for a change.
Looking forward to it.
Whilst I agree it maintains some interest in the season I can't say it's much to get excited about if last night was an indicator of the quality we can expect.

Got to take your solace where you can I suppose
Absolutely
It's all we've got to cling on to for the time being.

…and people accuse me of living in the past. You might well surpass that next week though, thanks for the reminder
I’m just enjoying the season, and what a season it’s been, as we’re supposed to! With luck you can enjoy next season a little better, after your very extended break.
Fair point, I really enjoyed the Challenge Cup final.

My word this is awful.

Really low quality stuff, one piece of brilliance separating the teams.

That was brilliant from Schneider.

I wasn't expecting it to come quite that soon.

You're quite correct of course but hopefully not the last.

You weren’t playing Hull every week
Good point well made.
The scoreline tells you everything you need to know, Huddersfield the much better team in a game understandably completely lacking in any intensity.
Still, we all went home with a smile on our face after Scott Taylor converted his own last minute near length of the field try.

Once in a while, I shell out for a case of their 'Yorkshire Stingo', which is aged for about a year in wooden casks (and consequently quite pricey). Nice for a treat - if you like Innis & Gunn's 'Blood Red Sky', it is in the same territory.
Can be hard to track down but it's a bloomin' lovely beer. House of Trembling Madness in York usually have it in.

As dreadful in attack as they have ben in defence, rather sadly.
It's a bit like watching our team in attack, mate.
You wish you could place a bet on which tackle they'll balls it up.

Job done for Cas last week. Can't see them challenging Wigan who should win at a canter.

Sam Smiths is an acquired taste, though I quite like it. Unlike John Smith's which is, for me, a never-acquired taste.
I had a girlfriend who used to there every week, saying it was authentic Bradford. I thought it looked like many of the regulars may not have had a wash before coming out.
Mind you, she lived in Saltaire Village ... two bedroom terraces with a tiny yard and fronting onto the street now cost well over £200,000. { For jealous Southerers, a "typical" price for a two bedroom stone terrace elsewhere in a decent part of Bradford itself would be about £130,000 to £150,000]
The only time I ever go in the Shoulder of Mutton these days is:
- on Armistice Day, when we have a fantastic Parade in the City Centre. The pub is always full of veterans, including a few that I know. *
- On a hot Summers day ... it has a hidden, and great, beer garden surrounded by tall buildings.
I have heard that it is not as cheap as it was. I'm guessing that the cheap beer is electric.
* One thing I've previously thought about for struggling pubs is targeting ex-military clients. I know quite a few people who left school and joined up. Plenty of photos, flags and badges and flags can be bought at local auctions and flea markets.
Sam Smiths do some superb bottled beers but I've always found their cask Old Brewery Bitter to be too hit and miss. So much so that I don't risk it anymore.
John Smiths cask used to be really good but I'm going back many years. The keg and canned stuff you get now I find revolting and bears very little resemblance to it.

If you went in a Green King pub you were brave. Oh hang for two lagers and a Guinness, not beer.
The Marine is still a nice place to sit on a day like today but it was a whole lot better before Greene King took it over.

First three places in the Vuelta GC all occupied by Jumbo-Visma but the internal team dynamic is getting very interesting and probably just a little bit tense. For all the talk of riding for Sepp Kuss, Vingegaard and Roglic didn't hesitate to drop him on the final climb on the Angliru. He's far too nice a bloke and too much of a team player to criticise his teammates but he must have been thinking they'd shafted him.

What a mad game. Not often a game is decided by golden try.
Couldn't understand what Singleton was thinking until I saw the replay ofDufty cheap shot on the kidneys.
Was never certain how that game would end
I have absolutely no idea where you've got that from. Dufty is going for the ball carrying arm.
