  1. The French Championship takes place on the 29th of this month. I think it will be one of the best in some years. The two sides are very different. Carcassonne have been on top for years. While their other team this year Albi are very different. Saying that the the side from the Tarn beat the Canri twice (20-14) at home and (32-30) away. Albi have very little success in the Championship losing in all 1956,1958 & 1977. I think they won further back in 1947!

Presently the Albi side is being driven by Tom Gigot Well known here as well as across the Channel. Played I think at Catalans Dragons,Toronto and else where. This last week Gigot made shore he made Narbonne. Limoux where ahead at half-time in the semi-final with Albi one player down. Gigot got 2 tries himself and made two for others with wonderful  cross kicks. And to keep up the idea to having the '47 years later!

Even after Steve McNamara's positive comments about French RL, and it being at home?

I understand that Steve McNamara is for the match in Toulouse in June - along with the St Helens  coach Laurent Frayssinous

What a day at Lezignan for the Villefranche from the Aveyron county up north. What is  it 20 years back or more . Wonderful fans from there in the red/blue. Is it certain that they will be in the Elite 1 coming next September?

There's still at a squad of 30, that will be cut down to 21 I think,  with quite a few that play elite every week, even in a super league squad with Guillermo, Jammes, rostang, garrigues, I'd say at least 1/2 of the 30 play regularly in elite 1,

Do you think that most of the ones mentioned will be coming from Catalans & Toulouse ?

  6. Did you remember the Catalans U19 team beat every team 17-0 - with two teams took one hundreds. At Stade Gilbert Brutus Sunday afternoon following the Carcassonne - FCL Final came the France Luc Nitard for the U19s with Catalans up against Toulouse. In the league Toulouse fell like the the others - a bit better losing at St Esteve 36- 16 but the game at Toulouse hammered at home 6- 52 like the others.

Well there sides at their teeth in the end Toulouse won 24-25 !!

I'm not sure of the reason you have done this comparison, please could you explain?

If you are comparing Catalans to a British club, wouldn't it make more sense to be another of the top SL clubs who run reserves (akin to Catalans' Elite 1 team) and an academy?

York, I believe, have also begun running a wheelchair team recently.

The two clubs very different & maybe more different than the rest

  8. Catalans Dragons

    Super League  30 players

    Elite  28 players

    Juniors U19  28

Women 15   (Seven playing for France)

    Wheelchair 10 (European Champions 2O24)

    *1OO in total

    York

    Championship

    Squads

    Knights  32

Valkyriee Womens 26     (didn't know the name from Nordic history)

    U19s 25

    Total for women  50

First game of the season St Esteve beat Pia 54-12 - turned around by Pia on their ground 28-18 later. Both of these sides did well in distance ways - Toulouse Elite 1 need to get moving

A very good match at Pia - they've gone better and better as they have gone along this year. Captain Guasch is just one of the number of players who have played for the Catalans Dragons - some recently Jullian, Baitier and Whare, the last one a famous NZ centre.

Albi played without Gigot - keeping for the last four games.

Else where U19 Elite were running down with the Dragons youngsters with a 92 - 4 Lezignan win - they had two games over in the season over two  hundred. Two matches saw Carcassonne go down at home against Villeneuve/Lot 6-70 when the first team won later 50-28 later. Toulouse first team finished bottom against Limoux  at home 54- 14 while the home youngsters beat the vistors side 80-6. There is something in this thing down the line

Carcassonne will have played in 7 out of the last 7 finals that have been played, lord derby and play offs.

Alan - do you see Albi change that this year  led by the wonderful  Tony Gigot!

After all Albi beat them twice in the league and no other side did that

    Highlights.

Interesting here the Catalans brought up a lad from the U19s Maxime Masuaute a threequarte and was won of the 4 tries. Carcassonne raised away early on but 5 tries to 4 was the younger Baby Drags showed up well

  13. Steve McNamara left 7 playes last season. Keighrans, Chan, May, Pearce, Whitley, Goudemand and Tomkins - some job to do in 2024. Looking this weekend against Saints, who turned Wigan over last week, as well. Dezaria, Sironen, McIlorum and Bousquet also injured after Warrington.

First time too for Catalan Dragons to play 72 minutes with 'une  épine dorsale 100% française' -  Da Costa - Garcia - Fages - Rouge - Mourgue.

Come the 29 June is it when England play France in Toulouse some play could be diffrent - well not the same as Warrington or Leigh last year. Lets see.

  14. Carcassonne got the first place even if Albi have a two games. More likely the other 4 could gain - Limoux have only one game at Toulouse while FCL has TO at home with St Esteve away - unlikey. Pia coming on the railings having Avignon away and home with Albi.

The France 19s play the England academy for a one off match in early July, then it's the European cup in Belgrade, then I've heard the Aussie schoolboys may be over this winter,

Alan it looks decent for this year anyway - what teams are in the Eurpean competition

  16. Getting the Catalans U19 along with Toulouse U19 may be together to play some English sides home and away should be possible

Do the France U19s presently play every year against the England team home and away
