The French are off to Kenya and then I think it’s England in June.

France was the first country to bring up a World Cup 1954- before any country including rugby union - they really want to play others - great to see them play Serbia and now Kenya. They'll play two games as well. They find the money to do this. Good own them

Some people said the broadcast was good some struggled with the picture,

Lézignan left at 15h30, hit the traffic in Toulouse, landed at Saint Gaudens  without a break at 19h15,

    Played the game at 20h30

Drug testing after the game, 1 person for 6 players (3 from each team)

One player didn't give enough urine so had to wait to go again!

They arrived back at Lézignan at 3.30 in the morning, the Catalan based players had another 45 minutes to get home, 6 of the players where working this morning, all the team booked Friday afternoon off work.

Plus it was a very physical game in wet conditions so a few sore bodies this morning,

Not easy for amateur/semi pro players Friday or Monday night football 😬

St Gaudens deserved  the win and Lézignan with their young team ran them close, Lézignan bombed a try and almost scored another, it's a quality experienced st Gaudens team and a young keen Lézignan team (average age 21 years old)

The league will be close this year, even though Carcassonne and Albi should be above everyone's with Pia, limoux and st Gaudens running them close.

Interesting to see how the 'reserve teams' of TO/Dragons go this year

St Esteve against Limoux (30-14)and Carcassonne (30-12) was OK I thought - well better than last year

TO started OK with two wins but fell away - last weekend at home to St Gaudens (16-44)

  4. After just 4 rounds no teams haven't been defeated. Only Villeneuve haven't one win - but 3 bonus points. Lezignan struggle presently but looked OK at Albi. 8th place Avignon beat leaders Limoux Saturday. Like to think that reserve teams St Esteve and Toulouse will be better than last year too

When I saw Avignon earlier on at Carcassonne they where not ready. Now 4 players from that earlier game. Two Ausralian backs in Dane Francis and brother Mitchell Francis. Dane is not new as he played for Carcassonne two years back in the their championship victory. Another down-under player in the forward in Robert Tuliatu has arrive-d. Also missing from that earlier game was centre Louis Carré - who played for France in Serbia recently and who played at St Esteve earlier

    Avignon 18-12 Limoux  !

  7. Interesting is the match at Villeneuve/Lot this Saturday with St Esteve. The Catalans will have the two Le Cam's brothers for the first time. The elder and captain this year Corentin along side Audric - who was captain of the U19s last year

Avignon may not be an expansion area, in a French context, but is one of the bigger places in Elite 1 (and I don't think currently has a professional soccer team).  Now the SO Avignon club president, ex-Catalans player Younes Khattabi, has said that his dream would be to steer the club into Super league:

Elite 1 - Younes Khattabi rêve de Super League pour Avignon - Rugby à XIII - Treize Mondial

Younes still looks like he was when scoring for the Dragons at Wembley back in 2006 against Saints

Avignon short so early - 2 brothers from (North Sydney Bears) D & M Francis haven't arrived also their international centre in Carre who played in Serbia

Picked-up further that Avignon played with two players from Salon (Elite 2) Saturday winger Pourchi and a forward I think in Chevalier

I must say I was about to leave the ground in half an hour as Carcassonne where already 3O points up. The vistors won the second half by 12 points! (30-12 at the end)

Last season it was essentially five games every weekend unless there was some reason one wasn't played - that would get caught up during one of the free weekends that are in the fixture list or when other teams were playing in the cup.

I think the heat would be an issue with the summer - Catalans and Toulouse deal with it, but why make problems for Elite 1 in that regard when they can play in winter instead?

I watched the Carcassonne v Avignon live stream yesterday and have watched quite a lot of championship games this year. I was surprised by the number of handling errors yesterday (perhaps down to it being the first game of the season?)

Avignon were worse than every championship team I've watched this year. Of the teams I've seen I reckon yesterday's Carcassonne team looked better than Newcastle but worse than Barrow and those higher up the Championship.

  11. Was having a coffe with the former Dragons forward Mickael Simon - today involved at the Carcassonne club. He was telling me how difficult it is to get a 19s team for the new season, hardly 8 lads as presently.

Down in Perpignan a different image at the Dragons with 35 players already. It's possible the attraction of the Catalans

Is this a discussion or are you just thinking out loud to yourself?

I think you were right ! I felt the 6th teams all had something special.

What about the three top teams all on 4O points different

I follow a bit of the NRL - maybe we can follow them in time

  13. Wire started out right with R1 to R10. Catalans R14 defeating Wigan at Magic Weekend and held top spot until R23 with Wigan getting their turn back

The French side held out late too - keeping Saints away on the last game for the time being

Leigh and Hull KR playing at Wembley surprisingly and here now to take in the half-finals this weekend

Wire at the end made it at 6th place after losing at Salford but winning at Huddersfield right at the end

  14. I was in the railway station coming back from the match at the Dragons on Sunday. Waiting for the train and popped in the shop. Picked up a GEO world publication which had on it's front  'Terre de Rugby' - something you normal see. Most of the cover was  about rugby union included from Georgia to the Willis Islands in the Pacific.

But what caught my eye  was a heading - 'Volonté  tout terrain' from Perpignan and a story all about the Dragons Catalans Wheelchair set-up and with it a full double colour picture. They mentioned too the wider club being set-up back in 2006. Interesting

  15. I’ve decided that this season will be last in Rugby League. What a journey it’s been. I finish the game knowing I have given every bit of my heart and soul for nearly 18 years. I’ve had some amazing times and leave the game with friends I know I’ll have for the rest of my life. I still have a job to do with Catalans Dragons and I’m all in to go after that trophy and make history for French Rugby League.

  16. A lot sort of France where hopless at Leigh in April

Only Goudemand played in that match. If you add Garcia,Bousquet, Navarrete, Seguier, Dezaria and Springer you've something better. Next season two French forwards will be at Leeds in Gouemand & Sangare. This idea is becoming more and more taken up..
