  1. So, with twice as many NRC wins and a newer ground than Widnes, what does this mean for Leigh in 2015?
  2. It was a disaster anyhow. Perhaps they may have done rather well of theyd gone up? I recall a certain other club who cheated their way out of relegation....
  3. Jeff, I think you are spot on. Funnily enough the LSV isn't that easy to get to from Wigan on public transport and the later kick off doesnt help My guess is a crowd of 8k Best bet for a full house is to have some sort of "cockney for a day" campaign to get locals behind London. Leythers would be delighted to see Wigan lose
  4. The last train back from Manchester is 20:35. This may allow you to catch a slightly later train. It might even be cheaper. For reference, Leigh is only a few miles further away to Manchester than Wigan. A taxi at night will only take 30mins. Can you book them from the local hotel on the lsv site?
  5. This game wont get any more at Leigh than at sonewhere neutral like Oxford, MK etc. There could have been a few thousand London fans coming out of the woodwork for this if it was somewhere in between. Sadly this is likely to reduce the London contingent to a few hundred
  6. For London fans in groups it isnt so bad - Leigh is only a 20min taxi journey from Wigan NW or 30mins from Manchester Piccadilly. I think the train is only 2 hours these days.
  7. Was it too much trouble for the RFL to find somewhere in between? An absolute bonkers decision. You going up for it Manx?
  8. There will be other clubs inc the Cumbian clubs and the expansion clubs getting several thousand like Cru. Going from several hundred to several thousand will be a success. In this system I would also hope to have a Welsh team and Toulouse in SL. I think a Welsh team who makes it via p&r will be better supported than via licensing. Always best to go up on the crest of a wave
  9. There was no change to the promotion to SL:-1 up 1 down is more restrictive and offers less hope,, 2 up and down is better -the large parachute payment meant that the relegated team had a big advantage especially with 1up and 1down. For example Huddersfield retained a full team squad. This caused resentment and needs amending this time around. A fairer system would be that any contracts are null or transferred (to avoid financial problems), and the relegated team is at the same level as other clubs (this will be needed anyhow if the second tier now has a salary cap). -most clubs had poor stadia. Not the case now -no tv contract I think things can really improve. Even going to third tier games will become more attractive psycologically as you know your team does not have a locked trapdoor above it after promotion to the second tier
  10. We'll see. Bigger crowds in the championship will mean more money for on and off the pitch investment. 2 spots up for grabs means that there is good hope. This will bring fans in. The other good thing is that there is a great opportunity for the likes of Cru to make a charge for SL - I can see some cracking crowds at Wrexham for promotion battles with the likes flof Leigh, Widnes, Wakey etc. It can work!
  11. Bbc just mentioned 2up 2 down as an option. Awesome - that would take the sting out of relegation compared to 1up 1down. I really do think/hope crowds in the championship could improve massively. Also that tv contact for the lower tiers should be worth much more
  12. It will be 6 years actually. I think the 3 year gap was too big, and the fact that the best team was not promoted (even if they met criteria) was wrong. The trial would have worked better with a more dynamic 2 year cycle with the best team or best two teams promoted.
  13. Well we'll have to agree to disagree. Anyway I'm going outside to soak up some sun!
  14. There are some aspects of licensing which have been good. Not the omission of P&R, but the off the pitch aspects (finance, youth, etc). I hope that this can be fused together with P&R
  15. How many overseas players do the Broncos have. Sheffield are allowed 1 Soward was brought in after the comp started -is that fair? Sheffield would have exceeded the cap to get him so your argument is complete cack.
  16. Crowds were big in the 80s. Do you really think the stated crowds were accurate though? There was absolutely no reason to state a big crowd due to tax -plus no threat from union. unless it was a major game for records, eg Wigan v Manly
  17. You also forget that there will also be a massive drop in sky viewers if there were only 10-12 clubs in a closed shop. And the likes of Wire, Saints etc are small fry. If it were really big city clubs like Liverpool, Manchester etc, then it may have worked - but then the game would be big enough to have p&r anyway I got shut of sky and premier due to the lack of p&r. I will be renewing again thankfully now p&r returns
