15kg (33 pounds) down since the start of the year. It’s harder to lose it now but it’s still coming off slowly.
I love the feeling of walking up hills now. It feels so much easier.

My son’s amateur sports team had a nearly 1000 mile round trip to an away game in Australia without using a plane but it was a one off. I can’t imaging doing it every fortnight.

The Bears would be based in Perth, they would train there, but would play 2 matches at North Sydney Oval initially, but after a couple of years would play just one home match there.
North Sydney oval is hopeless for rugby league and belongs in the past and the lower leagues.
If the Bears get a foot in the door via Perth it won’t be long until they start wanting to play more games in Sydney until they return to Sydney.
A new Perth team should have their head office in Perth, their players, administrators, board etc all living and working in Perth.

Concentrate on the beach head in Toronto....crowds will come. One off games in random US cities is nice on paper but does nothing to grow the game....there clearly is no plan.
It’s only being done to grow gambling related income from committed/addicted North American gamblers looking for extra time zones and products.

If the gambling angle works and the money starts to flow, the SL can ride on the coattails.

Aussie Rules could have a world cup if it chooses. Australia is a country with plenty of diversity in its heritage of settlers. I'm sure there's Aussie Rules players with Italian, Greek and Croatian heritage for starters. But would an Italian Aussie Rules team truly represent Italy, in a game not exactly noted for being played in Italy. I expect there's dedicated individuals playing Aussie Rules playing in various countries all over, but a WC of Aussie Rules would seem daft and lack legitimacy. Now RL is NOT in that position, it is played as a pro or semi pro sport in about 8 countries, Aus,NZ England, France, and the colourful and wonderful Pacific Island countries, no problem. It is beyond that the problems are, it's a question of stretching credibility or legitimacy. It's a balance between including the minnows to enhance the game in said countries and at the same time avoiding blow outs that damage the WC as a top international event in the eyes of the watching curious. 16 teams is too much by far, 10 is okay for me.
AFL has the International Cup and Australia can’t participate. Ireland does quite well in the tournament.

Interestingly, 5 or 6 years ago there were a few articles about gazillionaire Qatari Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani being interested in buying into the NRL by purchasing St George.

I'm always intrigued by people who have them with a big carp as their profile picture. Spending your life trying to catch someone's escaped mutant goldfish out of a canal cannot be the point of life.
Carp are junk fish in Australia. They are plentiful and easy to catch. My son catches them up to a metre in length and we kill and bury them in our garden for fertiliser. We know they are prized fish in England but we were still amazed to see fishing stores in England dedicated to carp fishing gear.

these sad gits who spend thousands on equipment and go around in full camouflage outfits from head to toe to prove they can "out smart" a fish - amaze me
What’s the deal with the outfits? Earlier this year I was in England and I saw plenty of people wearing some type of fishing outfit to stand on a footpath and fish a small stream with no natural riparian zone at all. It was in the middle of town.

I’ll host it.

If Qatar offered a guaranteed $ that was impressive and global coverage via BeIN sports, I’d support the bid. Doesn’t matter if the crowds are low, take the $ and publicity and develop the international game.
I’d fly over to watch.

But they played it later in the year didn’t they?
With AC you can play it whenever.

What's in it for Qatar? No one would go to any games.
Qatar seems to be extremely keen to spend whatever they can as a soft power exercise to appear independent, high profile, a global influence and separate from Saudi Arabia. They don’t care about rugby league at all, it’s just a means to an end.

Temperatures in Qatar and time of year not a problem?
Some of the stadiums have air conditioning. The huge vents were visible during the soccer World Cup broadcast.

AI is fun for getting it to write cheesy poetry about rugby league or rugby league clubs. It can use different poetry styles too…
….
The National Rugby League
Oh, how I love to watch you play, With all your passion and your might, The way you run and tackle and throw, You fill my heart with such delight.
I love the way you cheer and shout, When your team scores a try or goal, The way you sing your team's song out loud, It makes me feel so proud and whole.
I love the way you come together, As one big family, to support, Your team through thick and thin, no matter what, You're always there, right to the end.
So thank you, National Rugby League, For all the joy you bring to me, I will always be a fan, no matter what, You will always hold a special place in my heart.
.. …
There once was a league so great It was played by the best of the state, The teams played with flair And the crowd went wild there, And the players were never late.
…..
Upon the field of green,
Where two teams do meet,
The battle cry is keen,
And passion runs so fleet.
The ball is passed with speed,
And players charge ahead,
The crowd goes wild with glee,
And all their hearts are freed.
The whistle blows the end,
And one team does rejoice,
The other team is sad,
But both have played with choice.
So let us all applaud,
The players and the game,
And let us all be glad,
That rugby league is here.

Has the Qatar idea been made up by this forum in order to generate argument, or is it an actual proposition?

Aussie No-Rules Football isn't an activity I follow, so help me out here. Is it true that the only way you can get sent off during a game is by being arrested by the police?
More or less. AFL doesn’t have a send off rule. The perpetrators play out the game and possibly get suspended from a number of upcoming games.

The US hosting is just some weird fever dream. The sport is unknown in the country.

They would have to move to a Conference structure, I would guess.
Four groups of five, for example.
Two NSW Conferences, one Queensland and one for NZ, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra.
One advantage of that is that it guarantees a wide geographical spread of clubs contesting the play-offs.
As a Canberra resident I’m not a fan of there being a conference for the outliers only. We also like playing the big Sydney clubs. It’s only 2.5 hours to Campbelltown and 2h40m to Wollongong.
Also, with so many ex-Sydney residents in Canberra, they also enjoy watching the Sydney teams or their own Sydney team play in Canberra.
The risk is the media will only focus on a Syd or QLD conference as that’s where the bulk of the media and RL fans live.

In 10 to 15 years we’ll probably be able to subscribe to an AI package that specialises in movies and we’ll be able to request a movie just for our tastes and have it created within seconds.
As most movies today seem to be simply chewing gum for the mind, the AI company will be able to creat this stuff easily.
The film industry is in for a shock..same for the music industry.
