Australian TV ratings are in:
Manly v Souths : 838,000 on pay tv/kayo (highest ever fox league ratings for RL).
Roosters v Broncos : CH9 784,000, pay tv/ kayo: 786,000.
Huge figures for a regular season game.

Any idea why this wasn’t played as pre NRL starter in Vegas
Probably because it’s low quality and not the NRL.

Not the best response regarding the allegations of racism against this player:

When Foxtel interviewed V’landys and Abdo after the match they said they flew Australian rugby post manufacturers to the US to build, in a US factory, decent posts for the match.
When allegiant stadium was built they incorporated footings to hold rugby posts within the movable playing surface. They had to dig around in the pitch to find them as they’d never been used before.
The posts will now be stored in the US until the season opener next year.

I won’t pollute this thread with links to AFL content but there are a few annoyed AFL loving sports writers out there right now.

Good to see News Corp chair Lachlan Murdoch in the crowd going back to his roots.

The Raiders are keen to sign a woman who has represented the US in rugby union. She was at the combine.
This link bypasses the paywall.
“I spoke to her and said I would love to have you and she said yes, I’d be keen,” Furner said.
“Other clubs might be interested in her, but we would love to get her.
“With Liz, I saw a lovely young girl, I had previously watched her highlights and sent them to our coach Darrin Borthwick and after seeing her today, we would love to offer her an opportunity if she wants to come.
“We have a spot available on our female roster and I will follow up with Liz when we get back to Australia.
“If she is keen to come to Australia, I would love to sign her with the support of our coach.
“We will now continue talks with her. As a club, Canberra would love to sign the first American female player.”
Tafuna is a hard-running powerhouse who has Samoan blood and has represented the USA in rugby union.

In some footage it looked like David Gallop was in a posh corporate box near the edge of the field. I doubt he could have pulled off this Vegas adventure if he was in charge again.

Canberra Raiders.

Attendance: 40,746
Apparently the weather was appalling outside in the lead up which may have put off walk ups.

Even The Guardian is doing a live feed of the match. That’s extremely unusual for a regular season NRL match.

Interesting. I’ve never been to LV but I have stayed in Reno which is a smaller casino city in Nevada. I remember the food being very affordable. The people I traveled with still made sandwiches from supermarket shops and we slept in a camper van in a parking lot full of prostitutes.

Goodness… NRL 360 has been broadcast live from Las Vegas. Buzz Rothfield is so embarrassing.

Thanks, I thought I'd seen something, and this often comes up whenever Perth are mentioned.
In reality, we probably should have a buy-in fee and then you buy an equal share, where for unusual costs and things we should share the risks.
I do think the only benefit of this is consistency, I'm not a massive fan of having multiple overseas clubs in the pyramid being treated differently like we saw with Toulouse, Catalans and Toronto. But this should have been considered before now.
This 2018 article ( https://amp.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-s-football-department-cap-creates-sydney-or-the-bush-divide-20180628-p4zob3.html ) says:
“The NRL cover the cost of 27 economy return flights, 13 twin rooms and breakfast, as well as hotel transfers.”

This whole thing seems to be run by one fast talking guy…

I'm not sure of the detail, but I do recall reading articles about clubs having to cover costs in the Aussie game too. I don't think this is as unique as we make out.
I’m pretty certain the NRL pays for travel expenses. If they didn’t clubs like the Cowboys and Warriors would suffer significantly.

Forgot all about this, it's great to see. I think the NRL have only scraped the surface when it comes to the potential in Fiji.
The Fijian PM was in the crowd wearing Melbourne Storm gear.
