  1. AI is fun for getting it to write cheesy poetry about rugby league or rugby league clubs. It can use different poetry styles too…

    ….

    The National Rugby League

Oh, how I love to watch you play, With all your passion and your might, The way you run and tackle and throw, You fill my heart with such delight.

I love the way you cheer and shout, When your team scores a try or goal, The way you sing your team's song out loud, It makes me feel so proud and whole.

I love the way you come together, As one big family, to support, Your team through thick and thin, no matter what, You're always there, right to the end.

So thank you, National Rugby League, For all the joy you bring to me, I will always be a fan, no matter what, You will always hold a special place in my heart.

    .. …

There once was a league so great It was played by the best of the state, The teams played with flair And the crowd went wild there, And the players were never late.

    …..

    Upon the field of green,

    Where two teams do meet,

    The battle cry is keen,

    And passion runs so fleet.

The ball is passed with speed,

    And players charge ahead,

The crowd goes wild with glee,

And all their hearts are freed.

    The whistle blows the end,

    And one team does rejoice,

    The other team is sad,

But both have played with choice.

    So let us all applaud,

    The players and the game,

And let us all be glad,

    That rugby league is here.

Has the Qatar idea been made up by this forum in order to generate argument, or is it an actual proposition?

Expressions of interest have come from Qatar, Fiji, NZ and South Africa

Aussie No-Rules Football isn't an activity I follow, so help me out here.  Is it true that the only way you can get sent off during a game is by being arrested by the police?

More or less. AFL doesn’t have a send off rule. The perpetrators play out the game and possibly get suspended from a number of upcoming games.

They would have to move to a Conference structure, I would guess.

Four groups of five, for example.

Two NSW Conferences, one Queensland and one for NZ, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra.

One advantage of that is that it guarantees a wide geographical spread of clubs contesting the play-offs.

As a Canberra resident I’m not a fan of there being a conference for the outliers only. We also like playing the big Sydney clubs. It’s only 2.5 hours to Campbelltown and 2h40m to Wollongong.

Also, with so many ex-Sydney residents in Canberra, they also enjoy watching the Sydney teams or their own Sydney team play in Canberra.

The risk is the media will only focus on a Syd or QLD conference as that’s where the bulk of the media and RL fans live.

  5. In 10 to 15 years we’ll probably be able to subscribe to an AI package that specialises in movies and we’ll be able to request a movie just for our tastes and have it created within seconds.

As most movies today seem to be simply chewing gum for the mind, the AI company will be able to creat this stuff easily.

The film industry is in for a shock..same for the music industry.

Would you be willing to move your family to port moresby?  Lets be serious, this is no comparison to Canberra.

If I was single I’d go in a heartbeat to play NRL in PNG.

(in the real world I’m too old, too athletically unskilled and would never get an offer)

I stand by what I said. I will leave you to consider why I think no players (ok next to none, certainly no stars) or top grade coaches are moving to Port Moresby to play NRL.

It’s a non starter mate. The more strategic and cheaper opportunity for all stakeholders would be to create a second tier PRL division alongside NSWRL and QRL. Then you will watch the sport flourish and take full ownership of the region over RU.

You underestimate how ambitious NRL players and those wanting to crack the NRL are…

I know quite a few people who have worked there for years and am across the issues. Look PNG may not be for you, but many people enjoy the challenge and opportunity.

And there`s the rub. I was fooled as well, after initially thinking that we were going to get a Saturday night prime-time FTA match, albeit I assumed on a secondary channel , but on reading the article more carefully it appears `live and free` only means that you can stream it for free on 9now and in fact in the 9 round NRLW regular season there will only be 3 games on genuine FTA.

The part that really pisses me off is that the recently released union viewing figures showed that Nine claims that its` Saturday night super (LOL) rugby Nine/Stan cumulative figure was 179k, with about 50k of those being FTA viewers, the balance streaming. I believe last year NRLW was rating cumulatively on average nearly 200k per game when shown on both Fox and channel9 with the FTA component being anywhere between 50 and 100k. So why aren`t we getting a genuine FTA game every week.

Bloody Channel 9, the sooner we see the back of those bastards the better. BTW, I`ll bet not one single dollar changed hands for this so-called `ground-breaking deal` being trumpeted by Nine.

I’ve read it will still be on kayo sports, in addition to 9, and I’ll be watching it there.

  9. Best of luck to him..

Isaac Nokes: The rugby league 'Geordie' chasing NRL dreams in Australia

    ……..

"It had always been my aim, I've never really watched Super League growing up," Nokes told BBC Sport. "Super League was on satellite television and we didn't have that.

"There was a streaming website which had all the NRL on, the games and the talk shows. So I just fell in love with all that.”

They will need to be competitive with almost exclusive locals, because you won’t be getting many (if any) non PNG players signing up.

Why wouldn’t many non png players sign up? Any NRL club will have RL players desperate to join. Now some with multiple offers may choose to be based in Australia if the money was close but there’ll still be a stream of super ambitious RL players looking for an opportunity to play in any NRL team that will have them.

I suspect they’ll just be in a more extreme version of Canberra’s situation in that it’s hard to attract some players to the NRL’s only inland team and it might be harder again to attract some players to PNG.

Didnt they bring this in previously but scrapped it as it was never used, seems a bit of a knee jerk reaction to one player going to Union.

The articles in the media here say it was being developed well before the current situation with union wanting a player or two.  Some media, however, will try to build it as a counter attack to get hits.

I've been doing yoga for years...in many cases I was the only male in various classes...if I had only known in my younger years that this was the best place to pick up women!!!!

In some of the bigger classes there are 100 plus women and around 3 or 4 men. I’m some of the smaller classes I’m the only guy.

  14. I’ve done a few yoga sessions a week for quite a few months now and I’ve not had a back ache since I started.

I must admit I had some particularly unreconstructed views about yoga over the decades. My physiotherapist suggested I give it a try so I did.

Initially it was significantly harder than I anticipated but I’m slowly becoming more comfortable with it.

I’m still experimenting with the different styles of yoga and am slowly settling on particular teachers and techniques.

I feel sooooo much better and now regret not starting years ago.
