  1. Should be an Olympic sport. Unlike that other code the wheelchair version actually resembles the parent sport & uses the proper ball to boot.
  2. Read St Gauden's have a new president. Was quite a well established businessman with offices in Paris but couldn't read rest of article-paywall
  3. Wish it would hit here in Oz this 'financial crisis' as property prices are beyond a joke. Someone's got money
  4. Catalans on a fb post said their match got 288k average viewers & peak of 446k
  5. Wasnt Super League back in the day launched on April 1? If so, could be a genuine announcement with a slap in someone's face? Let's hope it's something worth counting down for!
  6. Plus lets see how many super league clubs in the UK would have survived without £28 million loans + grants from the govt? Please, no time to still be on high horses about the Wolfpack.
  7. Titans numbers are woeful but Warriors are coming into their second season of playing in Australia. Prior to covid I think they had 18,000 plus members. Definately one of the hardest hit due to circumstances out of their control not being able to play home games in NZ hence not being able to sell match memberships.
  8. Another interesting thing about tv ratings is the almost snail pace conversion of the whole ratings system. The set top box method is outdated & the technology is there for it to be replaced by digital technology that is in place in just about every tv out there. The question is why the recitence in keeping this flawed rating system when they can virtually access the results of who is watching what in about 90 % of households? Why does the NRL virtually outrate the AFL on platforms like foxsports, kayo etc where this digital reading of who view what already exists but not on fta? Surely when we are told AFL fans are 'wealthier' & watch the game in 'greater' numbers blah blah, they are suddenly beaten in the more 'expensive' realm of 'pay' tv & ultimately more accurate method of ratings measurement? I think there is a good reason to drag the knuckles on tv ratings measurement for fta when it favors a certain narrative.
  9. They have signed a streaming deal to show their championship on Flick Sports
  10. Ok, on my fb feed are cryptic ads saying 'it's coming' 'a new sport' from a cccrl. No one is asking what it is, looks like Canadian based. Anyone got any ideas?
  11. I dont know about that. The AFL just signed a 2 year extention from Foxsports which actually increased in value. V'Landy's signed the NRL to a deal til 2027, kept quite about its value but apparently Foxsports got a discount. Now the AFL does mention Telstra which I think means digital rights something the NRL still holds. Until we know the 2027 deal, we cannot praise V'Landys yet?
  12. On the wiki page of Plough Lane they mention the London Broncos..just saying.
  13. RU Prem deal apparently £110 million over 3 years with BT Sports. Drop from £40 mil per annum.
  14. You're kidding aren't you? The season was marked by no crowds to 25% only capacity for most of this season. The Eels already are surging in membership for 2021 based on a normal season proceeding.
  15. Finally got around to watching the Super League final. Must say the commercial side of this was very underwhelming- Betfred, Dacia (only bright spot), Mushi Peas, Northern Rail, Papa Johns. If Elstone was brought in for commercial reasons, he has clearly failed. Compared to the NRL/Origin- the likes of Ampol, Hisense, KFC, Hankook, Coke, Rexona, Schick etc Also apart from crowds not allowed into most sports, the majority of sports TV audiences I think have not suffered, and there is talk around a number of TV deals that contracts are not reducing as envisaged. So Super League should not be taking a backward step in terms of income reduction.
  16. Saw on CNN a couple of weeks ago when they do a 'what's happening in world sport' montage, 'the rugby league season begins'. Not sure what season they were talking about or the photo but was good to see 'rugby league' on CNN
  17. I see Penrith are over the moon selling out '7000' at Penrith Stadium. The club should seriously be rethinking their small time thinking. With Stadiums allowed to increase to 50% on Oct 1, the Panthers could have taken their game to ANZ stadium. A 40,000 crowd could have been a distinct possibility given many Panthers fans have been starved of seeing their team in 2020. I am sure they would have gone to ANZ in their droves given the circumstances. Plus Roosters fans would also have come out in force but will largely be closed to attending Penrith. Also, the Panthers need to win games at ANZ stadium especially against top teams like the Roosters. Winning at Penrith won't mean diddly come grand final time at ANZ should they reach it. This is an opportunity missed & the Panthers small time thinking may come back to bit them.
  18. Streaming figures would be quite easy to ascertain but for some reason it's only starting to come out, the figures that is. In terms of Fox League ratings, as with all other programs, when a rating of say 200,000 comes out for a match, one shouldn't take that as a literal figure as perhaps a whole family or friends are watching the game. The match could literally have an audience of 600,000 in homes for all we know (not to mention pubs & clubs).
  19. It's interesting cos it kind of mirrors what has happened in Australia. Apart from Labor in QLD, nationally Labor has courted AFL with leaders coming out espousing their team colors, poured lots of govt money into AFL & virtually ignored RL. In contrast the last 4 or 5 LNP (Conservatives) leaders (Howard, Abbott, Turnbull, Morrison) have come out & let the public know who they follow in the NRL, were seen at games, given the NRL massive funding for stadiums & even gave $50 million plus in grants for centres of excellence. Apart from Rudd, we had Gillard & Shorten (Labor has gone thru less leaders than the LNP last decade or so) but they were AFL lackies to the hilt

  21. Sale union announce attendances of 8k plus. Even if they were fudging numbers its still way higher than Salford. Sad indictment on the Red Devils.
