We don't need the Southern hemisphere teams. Let's build up the home nations + France. They wouldn't want in anyway.

Granted, England will dominate at first but the other home nations will only improve with a platform for them to improve.

Other Nations are miles away, no end of Internationals will change that.

We need to play the top teams regularly

  2. We will add this as a podcast soon, hopefully later today, oddly it needs some work to convert to audio only.

You can follow now through Spotify or others but Spotify seems to be the most popular.

Here's a link below to the podcast version, using a tweet I shared.

  3. Hi All,

If possible would really appreciate a thumbs up' like 👍 on the YouTube channel please.

Oddly enough the bizarre algorithms in YouTube work in strange ways. It's less to do with veiws and more to do with reactions, positive or negative, up or down helps push the video up the searches.

If I try a search I usually get RU links, or old links to RL fights, be nice if we could try to bring some more positivity around RL.

This is where a small message and thumbs up or down massively helps on the YouTube feed.

So even if you don't have an hour to watch, a quick message and like will do wonders please 🙏

We know our limitations, we will never earn a living from this, we fortunately have lived away from this and only do this for enjoyment and to help spread a positive message in our small way. So apologies for all the spam, our long term goal is to pull back from promotion and just do shows with guests, but until we can climb these pesky searches we need any help we can.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my ramblings 😁

The 2014 and 2015 Euro comps both went down to the last game - indeed, the last minute in 2014.  Very entertaining.

Not true to say that there were few heritage players, though.

    Maybe my poor memory 😄

I remember a Wales, Ireland game, I'm sure it was pretty much mainly UK players, so yes maybe plenty of heritage players but from UK rather the down under. I could be wrong though as I don't recall the teams as such, just that it was a great game to watch

  5. Merging some of the ideas presented over the past 12 months and application of disciplinary from other sports.

    5 substitutes (4+1) with 8 interchanges.

    Officiating 👇

Red card, off for 20 minutes and that played cannot return.

Yellow card- player booking and 1 fewer interchanges.

2 Yellows - 20 minutes and that player cannot return.

If opposing player fails a HIA due to an offence they can use the 5th substitute.

Professional foul to stop clear opportunity to score is a yellow plus 10 minutes. (As is now)

On field ref isnt affected as they still only give red or yellow cards.

    MRP approach 👇

Red card = 10 demerit points

    1 Yellow card = 3 demerit points

Once a player receives 12 demerit points they miss 1 game and go back to zero.

Serious foul play with danger to health of the opposite player is delt with by grading carrying immediate ban of between 1 and 8 games

For even more serious offences ban using time 1-6 months of playing season.

    Benefits:

Fair player punishment built game on game.

Keeps more players on the field.

    Reduces pressure on refs

    Balanced punishment during the game.

Addition - bring in captains challenge

I appreciate it's a leap, but if we want change then we need to consider what can be done, ponder alternative approaches and reflect, then debate what can or may be done. It's always easier to dismiss but we have to open discussion on suitable change if we actually want change.

I mentioned some of this in our podcast with Rod Studd.

    OK then.

18 teams split into 2 groups of 9. You play the teams in your own group twice - 16 games - and teams in the other group once - 9 games - producing a 25 game season. The top team in each group would go directly to the semi-finals while teams finishing second and third would play each other for the remaining two places. The 2 semi-final winners would obviously contest the grand final.

Now for the sticky problem of promotion/relegation. Several options here i) bottom teams in each group relegated, ii) bottom teams play each other with the loser being relegated, iii) relegation takes place every third season and being based on the average points gained in those 3 seasons. This would ensure that promoted teams could plan for a minimum 3 year stay in the top flight.

My reasoning for all that is quite simple. For me 12 teams is too narrow and gives little room for growth/expansion. With 18 places that means there is enough room for 'traditional' clubs but also allows for expansion into 'new' areas such as a second or third French team, a Welsh team, a Canadian/American team, a non-heartland team, etc, should they become good enough. Also a 12 team league naturally gives a 22 game season which i) isn't really long enough hence the additional games and ii) sticking at 22 games really negates the need for play-offs (play each other twice, job done).

Also not to have promotion/relegation to my mind would be a mistake. It would cut teams off from the top level and ultimately cause them to whither on the vine so-to-speak. Plus having a 'closed shop' isn't the British way. We are not America with franchises, huge collegiate systems and vast distances between teams. We are not Australia, which was based on two large cities of roughly equal standing separated by hundreds of miles with RL being the dominant code of football in each.

So they you go FI - I shall stand back and await the pooh-pooh!

Pretty much my suggestion when we did a show on formats

I find the ruck infringements stat interesting.  At many PTB Tonga player was always having to step to one side or back to have space to PTB.  Surely because a Welsh player was lying in the way - I would suggest it was a tactic they got away with and should have been penalised far more.

That happens when you win the collision.

You want to tie up a defender and land on top of them, they could step back to PTB but step to the side, leaving either a defender on the floor, a late returner to the line or you make them offside. Not a pen for me as you already have an advantage. Not a tactic by Wales, but an advantage for Tonga

  8. My preference wouldn't be accepted due to logistics but....

I liked the three game series were the final game contributes to world cup points.

Every 4 years the top 6 play for the world cup, the rest for an international cup.

Gives the other nations a realistic chance and conpetitive rugby.

I've worked with management consultants for 20+ years, so I reserve my right to be sceptical. I can only think of one time they were of any practical use.

The strategy is "land and expand". Get their foot in the door by telling important  people what they want to hear (like a structure that exempts some SL clubs from Relegation), then maximise their income. IMG are out to make as much money out of RL as they can. Nothing wrong in that in itself, but always worth bearing in mind.

To date they have produced nothing new, just a re-hash of old ideas. Their specialism is marketing, not sports re-structuring.

I think the ideas are new, they've never had Cat a etc. Before

Licensing was different, maybe similar but different

Because what management consultants do is tell the most important people i.e. the big SL clubs what they want to hear.

Builds goodwill for the more important contracts later where they'll make money. Do you think IMG really give a monkeys about the games structure?

    Rather sceptical view.

What big contracts would they later have that would force then to pamper to big clubs?
