It is sad you feel like that, I too have supported York through all its various guises since the early 70’s, home and away , my dad and I drove to  virtually every game including going down to London, he is long gone now but my other half comes now when she can. This season was always going to be a strange one, new coach, newish owner and a team at the start of the season on the treatment table,  we have been very unlucky re injuries for some reason but that is sport. We have had some very good performances on the pitch and I like Hendos brand of football when we have had the players in the right positions to put it into practice. As for keeping the fans updated, we were spoilt in the Flatman years, but in the club’s defence how many other clubs in RL or any other sport for that matter keep fans updated re injuries etc? in my experience they don’t. One thing that hasn’t changed is the approachability of the players, they are all willing to interact with the fans, be it a handshake ,a photo, autograph or whatever. I agree the club is changing and things are being done differently but lets give this new group a chance, next season is the one on which they should be judged, not this one.

Absolutely you're right that next year is the one that counts. I've always been an admirer of Hendo and his approach to how the game should be played so it'll be a whole new ball game when there are more of his choice in the squad.

I appreciate everyone has their own thing going on, but following this club for six decades and deciding that the 2023 version is the straw that broke the camel's back is absolutely wild to me. You followed the club through near bankruptcy at Clarence Street, actual bankruptcy of the Wasps, and the basket case of the latter Guildford years.

We've had a torrid run of injuries (that the club 100% need better comms) yet we've made a Challenge Cup quarter-final, a league cup semi-final, and we're closer to the Championship play offs than we are the drop zone after a disrupted pre-season.

We play in a brilliant new stadium and I agree that the club need to strike a better balance between their corporate and fanbase relationships, but a little perspective here is needed I think.

Aye you're right Gav. I was there when we were getting 200 through the gate and almost having as many put past on the pitch.

But I can't help how I feel. And right now i don't feel in love with the game as much as i used to. And I appreciate that's not the club's doing.

I probably just aint got used to having an empty seat next to me yet.

  3. Lost my way this year. My 6th decade of watching York RL through thick and thin, week in week out.

Always went with my dad and, in recent years, with my other half. But my dad's been in hospital for a few months now and my love of the club, and to a degree rugby league, is slowly slipping away.

Looking back, i can remember coming away from then LNER after our opener against Widnes and discussing with my dad how we were just a little bit away from being a competitive, entertaining team. And that's how it seems to have stayed all season long. Key players are always just a couple of weeks away. The club's off-pitch development is close to delivering real, concrete returns. The PR team always have exciting match themes and community link-ups that never materialise. And so it has gone on.

Can't see myself attending another match this season unfortunately. Yet, like a love affair that you just can't give up on, I sincerely hope something pulls me back next season as this has been such a big part of my life for too long to give up now.

Do you mean on Harris? If so I agree it was late. Possibly worthy of a sin bin (borderline I'd say), and I think you can only award an eight-point try if the foul is commited in the act of scoring (rather than after the ball has been grounded).

I don't think Vella is alone in being lax on that though, I've seen quite a few slightly late challenges on try scorers that have gone unpunished.

Sorry, you're absolutely right. I meant Harris. And again i agree that there is far too much late stuff goes on after the try has been scored.

Because he was unsighted, the angle of Hooley's body meant the ball was completely shielded from the ref for the very brief time Hooley touched the ball. Again, in my opinion, another example of fans not understanding the difficulties referees have in making dozens and dozens of split-second decisions each game without the benefit of replays.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. He did have a perfect view of the ridiculously late flop on Harris after he'd scored and the kneeing in the back that caused his injury though 🤔

What actually happens to the gate money from the game does it stay with the ladies or does it go back to the knights?.

Presume York RLFC is a single entity that covers all its activities so would imagine all the money goes into a single pot.

Anyone else watched on the tele & heard Robbie Paul call the pitch an 'island'! You must stay on the island he said when someone got pushed into touch.

Thought I was hearing things. Hope the lad who went in touch didn't get his feet wet!

Ah! That explains the Odsal pitch then. The tide must have come in.

    Correct.

Thought so. Eminently winnable....and then within sight of a shot at some silverware. And after the guts and graft on display today, why the hell not!?

When the draw was made thought we had a good draw, but on recent form we will probably start as underdogs, hope he starts players in the right positions ie Bailey second row as we have 4props in the squad today.

Yep. Feel Bailey's pace running at the edges is being wasted starting at prop.  He's more than just a battering ram.

It is not irrelevant. No penalty kicks are guaranteed but that is not a reason not to take them when on offer. This is the second time this season when bad decision making  has cost us posslble valuable points i.e. the Widnes game when we refused penalty points at crucial stages of the game. I sometimes think we look leaderless on the pitch when things are not going so well.

Agree with all of this. The irony is, the game against Bradford we kept under control by taking the penalties on offer, even when they were not easy! And it was that turning of the screw that took the game away from the Bulls not us going for six points all the time. So the decision on Sunday to not try to get a point out of the game was absolutely crackers as a point in this league can lift you a league position or two come the end of the season. Last year we won the same number of games as Barrow and one more than Batley but still finished behind them due to the points they took from drawing games.

There's a lot of truth in the saying "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".

    Match highlights:

What happened to the arrangement to have Andy's brilliant Radio York commentary added to the highlights. It really brought everything alive! I'd rather have a bit of background crowd noise than the insipid music that is currently being used.

Looks like it's a tenner on Sunday, that should put a few more on the gate.

Looks like that promo is all exhausted now.

This might be controversial but I hope the reduce tickets end up on the hands of those fancying giving the game a go for the first time, as opposed to folks who would be there any way.

  14. Not a big fan of the music during breaks in play either, but understand that the club want to ensure there is no 'dead air' during the game so happy to see how it goes. What does bother me though is that there doesn't seem to be any thought to matching the music to the atmosphere of the moment - suspense, excitement, bewilderment at a decision - or trying to 'tag' musical stings to different players, events, etc - i.e. something for a try, a penalty, a conversion, etc.

Thank you. i don't use twitter or facebook. I wonder how many supporters are actually aware of this.

I do use Twitter and FB and it's the first I've heard of it.

How about the club put all those supporter email addresses they have into action?
