  1. I like Ellis, I think he's an excellent Secoond Row but isn't he currently under investigation by the NRL for a possible 'Chicken Wing' challenge on an opponent? The thing is NRL players & fans both like 'Big Hits' and so they happen more in the Aus than they do over here. The problem is although well executed they look superb but if they're poorly executed they can lead to injury and even if it's only 5 percent of the time they're mistimed/badly done that's still 5 percent of those 'hits' could lead to injury. I haven't watched much NRL but take Shenton being hospitalised in the G4N final last year or Luke Burgess going to hospital with a broken jaw at the weekend

as examples of what can happen in poorly executed shoulder charges. So, going to the NRL can help a player greatly not everything about it is great, in my opinion.

I think Eastmond needs to learn how to become a play-maker but I think neither him, either Tomkins or Westwood need to go Down Under to improve.

  2. Might give them a go.Thanks for that.

no worries man. I meant Pro-Rugby Direct.

So many people in Manchester love rugby League... where are you all.. come on down!!

Whoah! Christ! That's a meteroic rise! Nice one man.

Sorry, but that reminds me of the gay batman in Shameless: "Well, I know I'm not the only one in here who gets a hard on when the Rugby Leagues on telly". I only mentioned that as it's set in Manchester & shows Mancunians 'love' Rugby League. Joking. :D

  3. Played my first game in a good few years on Saturday, looks like the boots are coming out again, god I've missed it.

    Nice one man! Great stuff!!

As this in my first season I bought myself some SG boots prior to the pre-season then screwed my feet up with blisters most of the season playing in them. D'oh! Finally got around to buying FG boots near the end of the season.

  4. Gaddammit!! That was the third time I've had my ankle raked with metal rugby studs by a teammate in a tackle this season!! (twice in training & in my teams 'friendly' in Corsham yesterday) Hahah. Why me? Hah. The bizarre thing about an ankle rake seems to be minimal skin damage just grazes but the soft tissue underneath becomes swollen/inflamed and sore. Damn! Hah.

  5. Could they not try to get some sort of partnership going on with Newcastle Falcons a little bit like Leeds Rugby Ltd? I think Newcastle Falcolns could help Gateshead Thunder out financially but have Thunder anything to offer the Union club? In an idea situation a few of the Union 3rds or Academy players would be able to play the CC1 season for Thunder a month either side of the Union pre-season/end-of-season. But unfortunately that's not 'allowed' at pro/semi-pro level which seems daft.

  6. I thought 'Paris' had written a fairly good post until the last BS paragraph about this ficticious Paris SF.

However I could see another Catalonian based team being invite to apply for a SL licence within the next 30 years however if the French Elite 1 turns professional within that timeframe then maybe a couple of Catalonian teams would join it? I do think that they'd need at least 20-30 years (youth structure setup, kids coming up though the ranks, coaching setup, etc.) before they will be good enough to play at the top flight of RL though.

  7. Here's what I posted in one of ParisSurtout's threads:

Newcastle? If you're talking about Tynesiders look at Gateshead... Paris? Is a name on a piece of paper and look what happened to PSG... At least FC Barca Rugby Liga (?) and the other Barcalona team actually exist. I think FC Barcalona's RL team may actually be playing in the Catalonian league. So they have a possible chance of building up to be an SL club in 20-30 years whereas it's just pointless even talking about Paris SF having an RL offshoot as it doesn't exist.

Seems that FC Barca set up an RL team in 2008 who joined the Catalonian League this year. Unfortunately the only mention of an FC Barcalona Rugby team on their website is their 'Union' squad. Only info I could find about them was on Wikipedia & the Catalan Rugby League website. But hey if we're going to talk about long term prospects to make the European Super League truely European then at least we should discuss real teams who actually exist & could possibly be financally stable?

  8. It was a horrific looking injury. The pic about looks awful. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I'm with those not overly pleased by the kid's 'big hit' show-boating. If they want to do that sort of thing in the NRL then it's out of the way so the can make themselves look dumb. It needs to stay in the NRL. I hope it doesn't creep into RL in the UK. Patting your teammate on the back if they cause an opponant to spill the ball ('pop the pill'?) then that's fair enough but you don't need to jump about.
