In regards to stadium options does anyone see the development of New River Stadium as an option?

I'm asking because one of the reasons Leeds Rhinos has been a success is due to ownership of Headingley by the club and the ability to create revenues from it.

Could we see a similar approach with the London club? An approach of finally owning a stadium and not just being tenants moving from one place to another.

It would give long term stability to the club and options for additional revenues.

It has been documented in previous years that the council were looking for investors to take ownership and potentially develop the stadium.

When the announcement came that Freshwater were looking at stadium options, I immediately thought that I don't see any reason to move from Wimbledon.

My outlook now is that if resources were available for London to develop its own stadium, that should take priority.

I am sure you are right but I have always wondered why we have been short ter tenants where ever we go. Instead could we have reached an agreement to stay at a ground for say, 10 - 25 years. It would not be as good as owning a ground I accept but better than being Nomads. Possibly we have left in not the best circumstances. I would have liked Trailfinders as a long term base but I know there are differing views on this.

Anyone who has been to a game at Ealing and a game at Wimbledon will surely be of the opinion that Wimbledon is far better.

I must be in the minority then!

I enjoyed going to Ealing more than I do Wimbledon. Particularly when the weather was good.

An interesting thing about Trailfinders is that it’s one of the few grounds where  our attendances went up while we there.

  3. A couple of observations on previous posts.

I think Gillingham were keen for us to move there a couple of years ago. Personally I would be against moving out of London.

I have heard Australian and Kiwi accents at RL matches in London many times over the years. They are not a long-term strategy though. Having said that has RL ever had a longterm strategy in London?

As Jack-A-Roe stated above we only need 10k but it’s how we get them. After what happened with Skolars I just want us to survive and be successful . Personally I thought we should have stayed at Trailfinders on a long term basis but if there is a big injection of cash and support then that may change things.

To be fair, David Hughes has been looking for someone if not to take over then at least to share the burden for some considerable time, what he can't appreciate is that his tenure has so badly damaged the club's image that no-one will touch it with a bargepole.

Looking at what has happened to every other club from outside Yorkshire and Lancashire since I have been following RL I don’t see how you can say it is all David Hughes’ fault that London are not what they could be.

i was at the match by the way.

  5. When we played at Gillingham a few years ago there was clearly discussions going on about a potential move there. Medway Dragons seemed to be going well then but I don’t know what their current position is.

Comparing a couple of one-off matches at Ebbsfleet with Wimbledon is not really a fair comparison. I went to the first match at Plough Lane and there were clearly a lot of Wimbledon fans there. The crowds then dropped off.

I don’t think that there is any easy answer. I would have preferred to stay at Trailfinders. We are obviously going to get bigger crowds because we are in the Super League. Then what? The most likely thing is another move in 2-3 years unfortunately. The Broncos are clearly a different sort of club to most, if not all, of the other clubs in the league. I just accept that now.

If the NRL, Australian and US Government had a brain they would create a 8 team (from PNG, Fiji, NZ, Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii and even New Caledonia) professional competition to consolidate the region. With TV And sponsorship help funding the comp and Governments investing in the rest (for example staduims, junior development and training facilities). They could call it NRL Pacific.

No. I don’t think that would work. I think a PNG team in the  NRL though would after 15 years,  create another very competitive international team.
