Either that or they share the same owner. I can't remember the actual set-up.

Bradford Bulls owned Wakefield RUFC for a while, and even fielded a couple of the latter's players in the Twickenham Sevens victory.

Bradford bought them they then went bust and out of existence.  Shame as Wakefield RUFC had a good history, remember they had a decent team in the 80s.

Didn’t know that about the Scarborough pirates. That’s great news. I saw them play Whitehaven at the recre when I was a kid back in the early 90’s and although I can’t remember anything of the game or result I always remember sitting near to who I presume was the pirates chairman in the old grandstand.

A semi-professional side from either Sunderland or Middlesbrough would be fantastic for the region and the game in general and quite possibly for the thunder as well in having a local rivalry. Could also help push the expansion of the grassroots game into areas in County Durham like Darlington and Hartlepool etc.

Agreed would be good RL areas,  always puzzled me that such working class areas like Darlington/Hartlepool, Rugby Union has such a presence.

I assume these will be part of the 2 loop fixtures to make up the 25 - bit tough on Leigh playing 2020 runners up and imo this years favourites 3 times.

Haven’t looked at the league format.  All games held at one venue is it only for opening weekend or is it ongoing like last season?  Take it that it’s classed as a home game for the first named side. Looking forward to it anyway a good weekend of Rugby League.

  4. This thread started with a link to WMDC planning regarding detailed planning submitted on improvements to Belle Vue, numerous posts since we’ve had.

Some People supporting it, some people ridiculing it, some getting defensive. You get the impression some hope it doesn’t happen and obviously us Wakefield fans who desperately hope it does.

If it happens Wakefield Trinity will be in a stronger position and will continue and enhance the great work the club do on and off the pitch.

Once. Despite telling the RFL you would play TV games there.

That my friend is why nobody of even average intelligence is being sucked in with these building plans

Not sucking anyone in, just submitted detailed planning to improve Belle Vue and some RL fans of other clubs are getting upset about it.

No doubt it needs to happen, but that's for the clubs benefit as much as anyone else. Afterthat BV will have one tiptop side and two adequate sides.

The redevelopment of the West (and south) stand is naturally dependent upon funding. I dont think there is source for this yet. Who knows Wakefield AFC might get involved and be able to open up access to some grants (much as many supporters want nothing to do with Rodney Walker anymore).

According to Wakefield FC they asked to play at Belle Vue last year but were refused as we didn’t want additional wear and tear of pitch.  This may be the reasoning of the proposed new 4g pitch but think it’s  more for club training and community use.

When the East Stand is completed, if it’s as the proposed plans now with WMDCs Planning Dept, then Belle Vue will be far far better than Wheldon Rd.

    There will be

    • properly tarmacked on site car parking
    • purpose built bars and food outlets
    • Multiple, brand new, well kept toilet/baby change facilities
    • New ticketing office & outlet
    • huge pre match hospitality areas
    • brand new seating with excellent unobstructed views
    • brand new changing rooms and player/officials facilities
    • up to date physio & Medical rooms
    • Players gymnasium & indoor warm up areas

The new North terracing will be completely brand new and will have the most up to date crush bars.

There will be new up to date computerised turnstiles on both the East & West sides of the ground.

The South side Hospitality boxes will still provide Executive longes, Hospitality boxes, supporters bars, food outlets, toilet facilities and some of the best views of a match anywhere in the game.

The Cats Bar will also be revamped to provide a huge retailing area, more toilets, more bars and family areas.

To top it off the pitch will be new and crucially ‘full sized’

Full sized and level.  Plus new floodlights.

Mark Colbeck. Considered the best HB in his age group. Played well in 6 first team games as a 19 year old then the story goes he decided that a night out with his mates was more important. Wouldn't apologise and as far a I'm aware never played at a senior level ever again. You hear it a lot, this lad had everything, well nobody has everything but Colbeck came close, total waste.

Colbeck was class like you said had everything, just off the pitch was the problem.  If he’d have just concentrated on his RL he’d have been international standard.
