Interesting looking at the Player of the Season nominees for League 1. I thought Dewsbury did well to hold on to Reiss Butterworth when they went down so not surprised he's one of the nominees, but 34-year-old Sam Smeaton, 37-year-old Martyn Ridyard, and 42-year-old Paul Sykes as the other nominees are perhaps a tribute to how well modern players are able to look after their bodies and prolong their careers, but do we think they are also perhaps a reflection on the current overall talent level at League 1? I'm only asking rather than stating this as a fact as I barely get to see any League 1 games.

I've seen all North Wales Crusaders games bar one. I also went to watch Rochdale vs Oldham in a week we weren't playing, so I got to see a lot of league 1 players. Paul Sykes was excellent against us and ran the game seemingly without breaking sweat, so he'd get my vote.

Theres no one from our team in the nominations but Carl Forster should have had a mention for coach of the year considering the challenges hes face having to play at 5 different home venues and still getting his team to the playoffs and Rob Massam, although not as prolific a scorer in years gone by, still performs to the high standards he sets himself and is an outstanding player.

Oldham had three tries disallowed. This one, the ref said, was held up!!!!!

But the picture could be after the ref has blown his whistle and called held up...we dont when the picture was taken and at what stage of the decision making. I thought the ref had a good game to be fair. He put up with Ridyard and McNally carping at him all afternoon...I'm afraid my patience wouldn't have lasted that long!

  3. Is there a relevant area to discuss Masters RL?

I wanted to say THANK YOU and well done to all those involved in organising the National Masters RL Festival in Blackpool on Saturday 9th September. 6 pitches with 6 games on each pitch takes some time and effort to sort out, then there is the food and drink in Blackpool Cricket Club after the game. Hats off to those who helped make it a fantastic event.

Might do but it also might ruin them. People underestimate how much money you need to spend to survive in the Championship.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves....Still Hunslet to play first....and even if we do beat them, we'd then face Doncaster! Whatever happens next we've had a fantastic run after the defeat by Cornwall. Cosidering we started the season 0 from 7 were finishing it off brilliantly.

  5. Back from a weekend of Rugby league. Saturday reffing and playing in the National Masters RL Festival in Blackpool. Some light refreshments in the evening. Then up and off to Boundary Park for a nerve shredding game against Oldham.

Incredible second half again from North Wales Crusaders, I thought it would be close but that was too intense!

Huge thank you to the fabulous Roughyeds supporters; always a great bunch and very generous with their praise for our team.

  6. Couple of questions to the Yeds supporters from North Wales Crusaders fans:

Q1: Are we OK to bring flags and hand them up in Boundary ParK? We've had issues with this before. At Whitebank they don't like them hanging over the advertising hordings, which is understandable, but they did let us put them up on the fencing. However in Doncaster the head steward wanted to see fire certification for the flags! (OTT or what!)

Q2: Can we bring a drum? Or rather will we be allowed to bring a drum into the stadium

    Looking forward to the game!

  7. Doncaster will edge Oldham in a close game.

Obviously I'm backing Crusaders to win in Workington. Last time We visited we were up by 18 points but lost it by two with a dubious penalty awarded on the hooter. The day was memorable not just for the close loss but also the punctured tyre we discovered on our return to our minibus.....that and the Easter traffic led to a pretty miserable day out for us. This time its going to be our time.....It'll be close but I think we can do it.

They did for us with the game against Cornwall at Rhyl as we had arranged a junior festival for that day when we were still going to play at the Erias in Colwyn Bay and we wanted to keep the match in N. Wales.

I'm pretty sure they must have done the same for Midlands Hurricanes this season. Theres definitely not undercover seating for 200 people where they're playing at the moment. Of course they'll be going into the actual Alexander Stadium next season which will be a huge space for the 'Canes. Not sure what their income source will be though.

Is that their season over ? After all, Leigh have been written off after Friday's flogging at Hull KR.

I'm calling it right now, another Wigan-Saints GF looms.

I don't think les Dracs will play that badly again. I'm sure McNamara will use the experience to boost the next games - if they don't, your prediction will more than likely be realised

I didn't expect that in the circumstances.

I'm sure Rochdale would have wanted to play the game instead, seeing as if they were to make the play-offs they would be looking to win that match by 50 points plus - Skolars have lost by more than 50 twice this year too.

If Rochdale beat Cornwall by a big score and just fail to make the play-offs on points difference, this decision could be controversial.

Beyond which, this means that Rochdale have only had 8 home league matches all season.

I think Rochdale were fortunate to receive 2 points and the win. Remember that Skolars travelled to Rochdale for the original fixture which was called off very close to kick-off time. I dont think Hornets received any sanction for that. From reading other posts its not entirely clear who made the decision to call the original game off.

  11. A couple of juicy fixtures for the last weekend of League 1.  Could Cornwall repeat their victory over Crusaders? Will Dewsbury keep their foot on the gas at the top? Will Workington field a weaker team knowing they cant get any higher up the table? But most importantly, will North Wales Crusaders hold onto their 6th place and beat London Skolars?

    My predicted winners are:

    Rochdale by 6

    Dewsbury by 2

    North Wales Crusaders by 30

    Oldham by 20

    Hunslet by 16

What a shock. Integrity of the league and all that. Should be booted out end of.

The original game at Hornets was called off due to the appalling weather - after Skolars had already traveled to Rochdale. Skolars players aren't full time and I doubt they could take time off work to travel to Rochdale (again) on a Wednesday. I don't like to see cancelled games either but lets look at the circumstances before calling teams to be booted out.

Edit: I posted this before reading some of the other replies; sorry if theres some repetition
