  1. Town taught us a thing or 2 about varying restarts that's for sure and for the first time we really did what John Kear used to say 'we fell in love with ourselves' at half time. The half-time changes didn't come off, the idea of a 'squad' should be that if players are missing or get injured we shouldn't notice a difference with those coming in (the testimonials were the time to try those). If there was the possibility of Woods either being rested or getting a knock we should have had Dave Gibbons on the bench. Even Mokko alluded to that in his radio interview. We did give our heads a shake though when we'd conceded the 12 and started to compete again and the return of Leak and Gleds kicked us on. I doubt that we'll see that dip again. Still, as everyone will say, it's a win and another round to come. Onto 1895, a quarter final awaits, next Sunday is as important as any other, make sure that no other club sees us as the easy tie!

  2. Sorry to be a but of a squib, but Fev needs as a club to sort out a band of about 40 supporters who were pointed out by the referee as being verbally abusive and I believe were asked to leave but who were replaced by a few more at the end who did the same, all using the C word at him. I was sat near a group in the stand who were really jovial folk, took the game as it was a d we gad a great afternoon. You don't need that group tainting your reputation. It was a tough game in tough conditions, those conditions were shared by 3 young men in blue as well, let's not forget that.

  3. Tried very hard to find up to date tables, RFL site is shocking, theg even have Widnes (0 points) as qualifiers even though Swinton have one both games!

    Qualified Group 1 Barrow.                         Group 2 Keighley to play Bradford both can qualify.                                                Group 3 Thunder to play Trinity, Trinity win, they qualify, York will have best points difference for 8th spot.                   Group 4 Oldham play Rochdale, Oldham win they qualify.                           Group 5 Hunslet v Batley. We win, we qualify, Hunslet win Fev qualify.               Qualified Group 6 Swinton.                      Group 7 Midlands v Eagles. Eagles win they qualify.

  4. So many to choose from; Gledders n Coops were immense, beat there opposing props to pulp IMO. Similarly both 2nd rowers out played theirs, the pack won that game for us but other forces helped them in their jobs. Josh Woods has come in for lots of posts expressing disquiet at his performances but he was outstanding today. More variety to his passing game, confidence in his place kicking, great kicking from hand plus his organisation on field was brilliant, his best game here by far. I hope he takes today's games into the season. Teams looking at us and taking comfort in the fact of who we've lost and thinking that Batley will be an easier could just be changing that impression. For me;

    Woods

    Gledhill

    Manning

  5. Well, well!! That was a team showing,  every player, every non-player pushing for a shirt; coaches and staff, tremendous strength-sapping performance!! I'm first to complain that we don't spend but today shows that even if you do spend and pay great wages it'll never beat a team with a heart. Proud of those lads today.

  6. Elliot's done very well filling in there, out of position all season because we hadn't either dropped well or treated an existing player well. It was obvious that he is still a class centre on the odd occasions he was played there. I've watched the video going round if Johnny; he's definitely got a big hit in him, got a bust and go, we need to get him in space. It'll be interesting as we go along getting more of a lowdown on him and finding out how we picked him up.

  7. I think a lot of us will agree with your musings on IMG; how are Newcastle above Batley, with a record over 13 seasons of a NRC Cup win 2 Championship Finals, a Middle 8's appearance, a Championship semi-final and a Cup Final at Wembley (an average record basically of 1 success every 2 seasons).The only thing Newcastle have going for them is an impressive but empty ground.

  8. I did ask previously how this screensaver arrives; I've seen nothing from either my first batch of tickets from over a fortnight ago or the second batch which I put on when Rog beseeched us on here over a week ago. The spiel says delivered within 7 days.

  9. I did hear, from a reliable source I add, that he played at the RLWC, so may be an Aussie qualified to play for one of the South Sea island sides. Now that he has booked his flight it would be safe to assume that his signature is on a contract so not naming him isn't ruining that side of it. However I can see a little bit of the BoD's thinking of showing him off at Nash night.
