  1. Errmmm Firstly Whelen openly said he would pay to remain in SL! Secondly they overspent the cap (so did Barrow and they got punished far greater!) Thirdly big clubs are the ones with the money, or potential for money....London have money so the stadia rules dont apply, wigan had money so the salary cap was loosly applied, Hunslet didnt get promoted on stadia the RFL went to town on Barrow..... Its a closed shop weather we like it or not.....any new system will favour the big clubs, the rebellion is to make sure the big boys stay the big boys......
  2. Yes but certain clubs. ...if say widnes and Castleford they will be okay in the championship, London maybe not, but who knows if hughes would keep bankrolling them? At this stage it's all hypothetical but if they gambled that the first part of the season would be a loss but the 7 games would bring in income then it would not cripple them. ... What i am certain of is that we will end up with three leagues with very little movement!
  3. If its a myth then why do they keep changing the rules to protect the top clubs! Whelan was prepared to pay a club to not apply for super league if wigan finished bottom. ...and the RFL would have let them! ! Funnily the clubs you quote as not being big clubs in a closed shop are just that! You can't see the wood for the trees!!
  4. No It leads to hatred and violence in the name of a team! Shouldn't be part of our game!
  5. I agree on the face of it but if Hughes stays the can afford whoever they can tempt! IMO any relegated team will stay pro to bounce back the following year what will probably happen is the same six teams sharing the championship two positions. ...how long can fev operate at fully pro to attempt to break into this cartel? For me that is the only exciting thing about this whole system, I would prefer them to be given 3years in SL proper, but hey ho
  6. Australia don't have a middle 8 and there will be no pkay offs! (Middle When a team go down and stay pro they win every game (as good as, Huddersfield, cas) A side comes up and gets smashed every week leigh, crusaders year 1, catalan year1... The two relegated clubs would stay pro and therefore be the best in the champion ship And finally my logic is sound, the top8 will be a closed shop as will the middle 8 unless a millionaire comes to a small club, when the millionaire walks away the small club will find its natural place (which is the whole point of P&R)......
  7. If London who were woeful last year beat Sheffield( who won the second division) comfortabley in Sheffield, then I would imagine it's a forgone conclusion. ..it just depends on what the order is! Also what would be better.. To qualify for the top12 to get beat every week or to be in the bottom 12 and win every week? Regardless of which side of the split you would be guaranteed to be in the middle 8
  8. The top six of the middle 8 will be current SL sides therefore a current championship side will never be in that position!
  9. Whats the point of the league games? May as well just have the play off also where will the play off be played and who will bother going? Will they have a trophy to lift after the game? ?
  10. Thats the first I've heard of a play off with 4th n 5th!That doesn't sound fair! So if a championship club manage to play 7 intense rounds and squeeze into fourth, the ousted SL club can then have another bite of the cherry in a play off??
  11. It was when all clubs agreed to relegate two to allow catalan to enter. .... fair If all agree before hand!
  12. The thing is catalan would have to finish bottom and a team 'fit for SL' be in the promotion spot ... As long as all clubs agree to a veto and agree that the second bottom goes down in that cenario then it would be fair
  13. Totally agree! The smaller clubs are wasting valuable resources trying to fight the big clubs! If they worked with the big clubs (and made sure they weren't being abused) they could have all the players they need with only the cream being lost to SL! The problem about being honest and showing their hand would make sure a small vocal minority would whip up a frenzy with doomsday cenarios....the RFL are this n that etc.... In a democracy change needs to be sold and accepted. ...
  14. I agree the universities if you will, but at the moment we are trying to get kids from primary school straight to universities without spending time at high school, DR is one answer to this problem.....
  15. There is room within RL for club's of all sizes, my post was in reply to a post leaning towards saying that fans would only support their nearest club regardless of level! Also why would amateur clubs fold just because a semi pro local side has?
  16. Disagree, Widnes wouldn't have put faith in youth, London should have put faith in youth, the problem now is who will develop the youth of tomorrow?
  17. Where do the new generation of Bramley fans watch the great game? Hedingley?
  18. The aussies don't have P&R and ARE world champs...FACT, Just one question. ...how much of the new talent would have got a chance if P&R been around?
  19. I agree it's a cop out to defend the status quo, it will leave 4 distinct levels and very little mobilisation. ...
  20. 14 clubs with 1 up 1 down, maybe top of championship play off with bottom of SL? Or a radical approach, championship winners to 'call out' any SL club outside the SL playoffs that they think they can beat and play over two legs, winner takes the SL place....
  21. I agree that a side will try to win every game, it's nonsense that gets posted on this forum that teams don't try under licensing, if you are 8th going into the post season you will try but will have no chance of top four
  22. If the team in 7th and 8th have nothing to play for the general consensus is they won't try and wont take points off anyone, its hard for a comparison but I may look back to old seasons data before they played the teams for a third time in the old 12 team league to see how far off the top 4 they where after 22 games. ....
  23. There is also the real possibility that the top 4 of the top 8 is all but decided when the split occurs leaving 4 clubs with nothing to play for! (extreme I know but at least 1 club in 8th will have virtually no chance)!
