Tony, you would struggle to find a Salford shirt in the Salford shop by Easter!!
Merchandising is an area that Salford can really improve. They do well in the development areas and this museum is an extention of that and covers all RL.
-
Not quite off topic but.....
Next to the Trafford Centre in the old Argos building peel have opened a Museum of museums, it gives a taster for many local museums.
As part of this Salford have I think with the RFL got a RL section. This alone is good news but according to a poster on the RLFANS turkey Salford are using it as a marketing ploy. They signed up some families to come and sample the greatest game (unfortunetly they saw Solly V Wakey)
The poster is now so taken with the agme he wants more and is thinking about going to the GF.
It seems that the family atmosphere and openness of the players signing autographs and chatting to the kids won them all over. They will go to more games next year.
When Salford move to the new stadium this sort of marketing may play an ever bigger part.
Has anyone else been to the museum?

I hope change of club will be the making of him. He is only 22 and maybe some of the players at Salford can help him. He took his try well on Sunday.
-
I dunno if you're being serious or not! As the other match was the home win against St Helens...
-
Of the 3 games Sky deemed suitable to inflict on the viewing public
1 was Murrayfield which doesn't count
the other 2 were at Home V Rovers and another home game but quite who it was escapes me.
Most of the season is a horrid blur.

Error strewn game, Salford had long periods with the ball but made some silly last minute calls.
Reffing team left much to be desired for both teams, Hewer needs helf from his TJs he didn't get it for long periods. I think they guessed whether Salford's attempt at conversion ent over or not.
Funny to see the Wakey tries were scored by players coming to salford next year.
Must say I was impressed by the play of the youngsters in the Salford team, Owen at 18 is starting to show some real talent and Sneyd has bulked up a little and his kicking game was much improved. Ratchford is growing JJB chops and played a roving game at fullback. Some promise for next year.

Why are Widnes spending money on the ground if it is council owned?

RW If it was Chris Hollins speaking at the Willows he must have been talking to himself as the dinner was supposed to be at the Lowry Hotel.
Brian I only saw KOTS post, thought it was worth a mention.
Lance Todd goes uo market eh
-
It seems someone from the Beeb attended the Lance Todd Dinner last night at The Willows, He spoke about Salford and the new ground made some positive sounds. Lets hope this is the future.
Sorry don't know who he was,

A game that no one would really want to see other than the die hards.
Wakey win as Salford are playing the juniors.

I think we'd have been fine coming up with Steve O Connor on board. As it stands, our crowds are stagnating because there is little excitement in the rugby.
I'm not particularly sold on franchising. We could come out of it smelling of roses but the clubs who lose out will lose far too much in my opinion. We're selling them out.
The decision to leave us out was based on a number of clubs getting new stadiums and being supposedly stronger than we are. One of those has had to move to a completely different part of the country and of those getting stadia none have actually started building, and crowds wise we could have done better. So I still think it was the wrong decision. We could come out of this strong but it will remain to be seen whether the championship will be treated fairly in years to come. I do worry for certain teams. Whoever we replace wont be primed for coming back up, I think they will soon find it hard from the championship to justify replacing anyone in super league or going straight to the front of the queue. Thats the problem. A number of teams currently in super league would be only as strong as the better teams in the championship if they dropped down. So what justification is there of giving them 6 years and counting in the top flight? One measly team gets replaced? A number of average teams get 6 then 9 years in the top flight unhindered at the expense of clubs just as viable? On what basis is this fair?
What ever the reasons Widnes post a rofit it is good news.
I guess some are worried that the profit is just down to mr O'Connor pumping in huge sums in sponsorship.
The only dispute I have is your reason why Widnes didn't get a franchise last time. The reason was the current Widnes club were unable to produce 3 yeas accounts as they ahd wiped out the debts by going bust.
This might have been an advantage for returning to profit but whatever or however Widnes have managed it this is good news and something for others to aspire to.
Coming on the back of a successful year for the Academy it does show that some of the thinking behind franchises works.
Next is the hard work for the rugby paying public to see the Championship as a valid comp, not disparage it.

To answer a few questions
The stadium is
-
Northern Rail were supposed to be putting one on from Batley to Blackpool for the Northern Rail Cup Final this year, which would have been filled by Dog' supporters.
Unfortunately, they we're unable to do this due to 'essential maintainence' on the line 'just outside Blackpool'.
Imagine my amazment when I managed to get on a train on the very morning of the game at Dewsbury (which is a mile and a half from Batley's station), change at Picadilly, and be in Blackpool just 2 hours later, in time for the pubs opening.
Farce!
You might find that Northern Rail went a different route rather than Piccadilly Train route.
we went down what appeared to be sidings!
why they couldn't use the main route however is another question
-
I got free tickets for Murrayfield last year for both days with my Salford season ticket/pass.
-
I went to the Northern Rail Cup Final V Doncaster on the special.
It was great fun, although a few dunk were there mostly it was good humoured.
i can't make any comment on the behaviour of your fellow Wire fans though!

The driving force for the Media needs to come from the RFL. They should have a team that has targets to perform. They should utilise spending power to help the teams in the Championship to market themselves.
We need a whole game view, there should be some different options for marketing, such as a voucher season ticket, 6 games for 5 and fans can use these to go to any Championship 1 or 2 game look at the success Fax had. There should be some taster session options.
Salford had teams from Glasgow playing on Sunday and have spent a considerable time coaching etc in Scotland.
How can we get the Magic games more exposure?
We need to raise the profile of the challenge cup and invite some headline grabber to stand at the side of Steve Prescott.
We always seem to settle for second best.
-
Salford made do this year, they decided not to push out the boat and they let contracts expire at the end of this season.
Leaving
Alker-probably the highest paid
Fitzpatrick- I don't think he will
Swain- going to france
Leuleulai-Retire
others
Littler-no announcement
this is all about balance.
-
David Stephenson!! that takes me back to my early days.

So someone who has no background of RL says refs are biased? how does that work then? Have they looked at whether the pens were justified.
Cats have an advantage/disadvantaged as all home games are video reffed
-
This thread is full of half truth, rumour and misinformation
Does anyone else think the licences will be awarded by the RFL to suit their long term plan? If you do then all this is academic.
The team wanting to come into SL will probably have to offer something different to the other licences, which would put Barrow at the top of the list.
-
Cashmere throwing his weight about!
he reacted to his team mate being held by the arms by a Leeds player so another Leeds player could hit him. Salford got very few pens in the first half.
Over the whole game leeds deserved the win but it leaves a nasty taste when head tackles on Tyrer went unpunished, yet the borderline one by Fitzy (I don't think it was) led to a try.
-
Heard rumour that Patten was going to Huddersfield?
-
Bentham wasn't at his best, that last Leeds try there were at least 2 knock ons that he missed.
Why did the TJ come on only for Bentham to ignore him? was it the hit on the Leeds kicker?
-
Really annoyed at the final hooter, and this was a closer game than the score suggests.
Salford missed holdsworth and I think Leeds missed Peacock.
Leeds are not the team they were, and is it my imagination or have they got dirtier?
Millward to Salford?

It seems salford have advertised for another assistant to McRae this will be in addition to Alker.
Reports in France and rumours on RL Fans seem to suggest ian Millward.
Is this another Rabbitohs move coming on and McRae to be sidelined for the last year of his contract?
I know some Leigh fans are unhappy with his efforts this season, but they went from relegation to play offs.
Salford need a man manger, someone who is straight talking. doesn't rely on media/political waffle like McRae.
