    I agree.

The rumours that he will go back to Wakefield in 2025, if true, suggest that he must have some personal problems we don't know about.

Maybe sunshine is bad for his skin?

Why anyone would choose to move from Catalans to Wakefield in the current circumstances of club rugby league competitiveness, fan base size, home stadium quality, weather quality, and food quality, is utterly incomprehensible.

I don't really see how someone preferring to live closer to home and family as 'personal problems'.

The lifestyle in the south of France sounds very attractive but it is a different culture with a different language.  These can be quite isolating factors and I wouldn't blame anyone for placing those factors over the quality of the stadium in their decision making.

In relation to this I was speaking with a young player the other week who is looking to buy a house. The bank would only let them have a 12 year mortgage as that is the expected career. Now to get round this if you do your coaching badges you can then get a normal 25 year mortgage. Just something I’ve never considered before.

    That's really surprising... and annoying.

In this day and age, how many 20 odd year olds are expected to be in the same job in 12 years.  People continue to earn and change careers all the time.

But good the badges are seen as a career in its own right.

  3. Interesting the top coach ($1.5 million per year) gets more than the top player ($1.4 million).

Although I expect Ponga to earn more than Craig Bellamy when endorsements and sponsorships come into play.

Shows that if a top player can transition to a top class coach then the long term earning potential is significant.

I wonder what the comparison between top player and top coach is in the UK game.

    1. Correct. He's in charge, he's on the spot and players need accept and respect that. Cut out the arm waving and screaming in the refs face. Cut out the holding down and slowing the PTB.

    2. But now you are starting to get over excited.

3.They weren't lucky. These were the referees decisions. What do we want him to do?

Explain why I am getting over excited.

For me, either the act of ptb matters for some reason and they should be doing it properly, or it doesn't matter at all and we let them step over. Being happy that they are pretending to ptb seems a bit odd. As context, I'm an occasional spectator, but when I played tag regularly we'd get called for not playing the ball cleanly, even (to my annoyance) on a grass-free quagmire. If a load of beginners can manage it, why don't the pros.

You are preaching to the converted, I have probably bored people to death on here with my frustrations about the play the ball.

All I am saying is that it is better this year and I am pleased with that.

They bring in new rules this season..its not needed just ptb with the foot.

The ptb never needed to change in the first place..tinkering for tinkering sake.

The laws just needed implementing, I agree.

But more players are playing the ball with their foot this year and the others are at least going through the proper play the ball action.

In previous seasons, nearly every play the ball was a step over and I think that has improved a fair bit.

Yes but I think I know where you’re coming from because I think I’ve seen that penalised in the NRL

The key is if there is an acting half back in place or not.  If there is an acting half back (even if they have switched off) a marker can't dive on a ball after the play the ball.

If there isn't an acting half back, a marker can dive on the ball as long as they try to get to their feet after (or they are immediately tackled).

    Don't think that's right?
"If the player marking the tackled player at the play-the-ball dives behind the tackled player in order to drop on the ball as it is heeled, they are guilty of a voluntary tackle and should be penalised. If there is no acting half back it is permissible for a player to dive behind the tackled player and drop on the ball after it has been heeled provided that, unless tackled, they immediately regain his feet."

Yes, I was wrong on that one.
