I think Hookem needs to do less and organise more esp on 6th tackle on attack. Having watched the Keighley game on video, we were lucky to only lose by 6.

Just goes to show... you dont see the bigger picture on the video... We were awful in the first half but had our chances in the second and i am convinced if Hookem had stayed on the pitch we would have won! His game has improved immeasurably this season....

I believe that Keenan has been our most consistent player so far this season. He works hard throughout, often unnoticed, and probably isn't flashy enough to gain the plaudits.

Hookem is definitely a Marmite player amongst our dwindling number of fans.

I completely agree about Keenan... he has been excellent so far and his versatility and experience have been a great asset. Regarding Jacob Hookem... I think he improves every game... some one said, on here, he couldn't tackle... and last year I might have agreed but his defence has improved immeasurably and for me he tackles way above his weight.. add to that his general game play which is also getting better... I am no good with stats but I guess he leads our try assist league this season and then there is his goal kicking which is becoming more and more reliable!  All in all one of our best!!

  3. It feels like such along time since the last game ... for those who are thinking of going up to Workington the Amber Ribbon are planning to run a bus ... just a few more required to make it viable!!  ... If you are thinking of going and would like a place on the coach...  please email yvonneashton36@gmail.com

    Here's my predictions for today.

PM will only make 1-2 subs in 1st half and we will concede a late try due to fatigue to put Whitehaven 2-3 scores ahead and effectively end the game as a contest. Luke Mearns will spend his usual 65-70 minutes sat on the bench.

McShane, Coates and Hookem won't make a break  between them and we will score two tries in the game, one a late consolation. The other will be a close range effort forcing our way over.

Coates and Hookem won't put any kicks in the opposition 20. If they do it will be an individual chip and chase that the rest of the team aren't ready for and doesn't work. We will show no creativity in the opposition 20 and won't force one goal line drop out. Even when we fall behind, we won't try a short kick off to regain possession and change the momentum.

We will lose by 20+ points.

Not so much predictions, just a rinse and repeat of what happens every week.

PM will blame it on something else but his coaching.

And there was I thinking of going!!!  😆 😆

It is also worth noting that, if he plays in 2026, he would qualify for another testimonial. To me that sounds like a decent incentive to go where he feels that he is wanted.

Newcastle is a wonderful city.... and a massive job to do! Watching them last week they could use some experience!!

  6. Last week the date was originally classified as a free day... Sam Day had made arrangements so was not considered. Paul Sykes would have started last week but also made himself unavailable. Paul March is aware of the need for an experienced leader on the pitch.... Hopefully we will see that today. Garside our captain is still carrying an elbow injury.

Anyone know where and when the Broncos v Dewsbury 1895 Cup game is going to be? BBC has it as a 1pm kickoff next Sunday but not seen anything from either club. It's only 10 days away and it would be good to book travel, time off, etc.

The silence is deafening!!! .... What an embarrassment!!

I see the squad builder requesting people to support - question would you buy shares in a company that has no respect to its staff or customers?

Just as a point of clarification.

Squad-builder is run independently from the Rams, it is managed by passionate fans who are focussed on helping the club secure the best possible playing squad. Squad-builder values and respects its members and keeps them well informed of developments. Over the past 2 seasons squad-builder has contributed to the contracts of 9 players and has a strict criteria for contributing to players contracts, which has to be met before parting with funds. It is professionally managed and ensures maximum potential value for members valuable contributions!!

Please note every penny raised by Squad-builder goes only to player retention and recruitment. If anyone would like further details on squad-builder there is a link to squad-builder on the Rams  home page.

No doubt the Haven fans will hope this is a storm in a teacup. From our point of view I reckon it is likely to have a negative impact upon the attendance at what wouldn't have been a busy day in any case.

We lose again - possibly in more ways than one.

Looking at their facebook page they are rallying support ... looking to have a good away following for a game they thought they might not be playing! If their fans respond to the call ... we will probably be in the minority again .. I just wish that the naysayers would show support for this game  and give our lads some encouragement!!

Read Matt Garsides interview ... for a perspective on how the team are feeling!

Not that they will make any difference (or will they?), but I haven't come across these officials before (except Gerry Kershaw of course and I can’t see him influencing matters).

Gerry Kershaw, now a timekeeper, used to be a ref back in the 70s and beyond... I remember him well... called him few names but my overriding memory is that he was a decent ref!!

Dare I feel optimistic for this one after the much improved performance against Bradford (which team today in Toulouse had a much changed side and drew)?

    Go on then:

    Dewsbury 20-18 Doncaster

    FTS: Sykes

    MoM: O’Connor

    Att: 765

It could all depend on how the referee controls the game (better than his last appearance in charge of us I hope).

Billington won’t be playing as he made his debut for Huffersandpuffersfield notsoGiant Giants against Warrington.

I don't think Billington made the cut for the Giants, so we might see him against Donny.

It is only now that I realised that Rush was absent because of his suspension. Although he was playing for us he is still a SL player, hence the one match ban was served immediately rather than after the week's grace that a Championship player would get. There is a chance he will be available for us next Sunday.

I hope someone tells Paul March... he said in his post match interview that Rush was suspended next week!

For those of us long in the tooth ( like myself) the current state of affairs on the pitch is nothing new ........ we've been a lot lower and a lot poorer than we currently are.

The Royal Suite after the game was very quiet ........ where have all the 'fans' gone from last year who stayed after the game for a pint or two.... they also 'boycotting' and further reducing the club's income ??

Just to add a point in mitigation... I always go to the Royal Suite after the game ... on Sunday I didn't ... It was Fathers day and my Family took me out for a meal... likely not the only one! .. So maybe not quite as bad as it looked!

The club does however, need to engage with its declining fan base though and also needs show some respect and value to what is left of our loyal fans!

    Rush?

Way down the pecking order at the Giants... would be a really good loan signing for us!!  I would really like to see Bailey O'Connor at 6 and ... if we can get him.. Rush at 7!  ... Callum Turner back to 1 and Owen Restall on the wing.
