Even as a Dragons fan I agree that many of the NRL signings haven't been up to standard.

But some of those ex-NRL players via Superleague as well... I was as disappointed with Brent Webb and Luke Walsh as I was with Todd Carney, Coal Train, and plenty of others.

Those that haven’t were in the minority.

I have a vivid recollection of Masons first game as he walked down to the warm up drill area in front of Puig Aubert, in a jersey one size too small, wearing a girdle and then tripping over in the first passing drill in the coned off area.  Complete embarrassment to the profession.

This was the reason Alex Chan became manager I believe.

Not sure.  They were having Mad Mondays when Robinson was there and they finished in the upper half for both those years.  Chan arrived in either 2015 or 2016 when LF was coach.

I think the boozing etc was already there years before, it just came to a head in the Carney era.

Gre Bird summed up Horo, Mason & Taylor as a ‘loose crew’.

  3. Mick Crane.
Very skilful.  Could do anything with the ball, ghost past tacklers when he wanted and create space, often with his bemusing 360 degree move and all this on 40 fags a day and training when he wanted.  Peter Sterling was amazed by him and club officials bamboozled.

IIRC one official chased him up in the bookies as the coach was due to set off for Cumbria.  On his return, when asked how long Mick would be he said ‘after the next race’.

    Lovely bloke too.

On another note, it's nice to hear that a young French player Damel Diakhate has got a trial at Hull FC.

I'd never noticed him before tbh but looking at his highlights he has some potential. He's another product of  Lot-et-Garonne which really goes to show how important that area is French RL.

Dmitri Biscarro also a product of that area and getting plenty of game time at Toulouse.

From Albi.  Scored for Hull v Saints reserves the other day

Is the Pomeroy the one where he basically just threw him MMA style? In defence of Hardaker, words that I thought I would never think let alone type 😀, he doesn’t let go or at least throw the York player. As you say the York player doesn’t seem to land on his neck/ head. Pomeroy does throw the player.

Hardaker is more in control with regards to the tackle and I think that’s what has saved him from a lengthier ban/ higher grading although I think it could have been graded higher and would have been last season until all the complaining. There are no doubt other nuances but I’m only viewing quickly on a small screen

Ok thanks.  I seriously worry for the game if this form of tackle is now getting challenged by clubs for 2 reasons.

What does a parent of a child, who is playing rl,  think when they see these are barely punished?

How does the game as a whole defend such low deterrence measures if/when a player is paralysed?

There is little inconsistency. You are comparing apples with pears.

The Hardaker and Pryce “tackles” were very different with very few, if any, similarities.
Also, and I’m paraphrasing to an extent but Fash was deemed to have been trapped and unable to prevent any collision which is completely different to being reckless or one of the many late hits which have resulted in a ban of which Saints seem to have had more than their fair share

I know it’s going back a bit but what is your view on the comparison between Pomeroy tackle (2015)and Hardakers other than the latters didn’t land the ball carrier on his head?  Genuine interest Lee.

There are now enough posters on here confirming that our match day officials are substandard either deliberately or accidentally that it's time for action.

    1. Set up a closed  sub forum where critics can congregate and post evidence.

    2. These same critics can then use that evidence as part of a sort of "class action" against the RFL, with a case so strong that they can no longer be ignored.

3.Thus leaving the rest of us to discuss the sport.

I don’t think the Refs are sub standard.  What they are suffering from, is having to make decisions on high multiples of ‘gamesmanship’ efforts per game - probably more than any other foul play instances.

The best officials we’ve ever had would not be able to cope.

    A few examples:

Locking a defender into the tackle through Jiu jutsu type holds

Simulating injury - choose any one from half a dozen instances

    Crying wolf at every tackle

Delaying the attacker from regaining their feet to ptb.  Simulating injury in the ruck area to hamper the acting half.

    Use of knees

I was in the West stand. I didn't see any of the bottle/drink throwing from my seat.

It was mentioned by other fans in the pub straight after the game.

I did see an idiotic Hull fan fighting across in the east stand. Presumably with other Hull fans.

    It was quelled quickly.

Bottles and glasses were thrown several times but we were in row DD so virtually under the offending fans and got slightly drenched.

The glasses and bottles were thrown several times and the bottles appeared to be thrown from 2 places - our left and right.  After the 1st salvo, 2 guys carrying very young kids left, looking up to the level above as they went.

3 female stewards in the area then a male came later on.  Not good and there seemed to be an injured child with parents speaking stewards on my way out.

The HKR fans (in red and white)  were laughing about it and the usual goading and abuse between both fans continued

On that basis that you set out, then why do all the SL clubs have a Budget figure for marketing that they stick to.

I think it's awfully simplistic to believe there is a whole sporting audience out there that have not thought about going to their local RL club.

Bradford Bulls had a slick marketing strategy, how come then they went on to lose 10,000 off their gates ?

And giving the game away once more Parky.

Cut the you you you stuff please.

We have six "A" clubs who will forever be in Superleague.

Who else do you see making "A" grades to take Superleague into being a whole league of rich clubs in quality stadiums?  All the quality players (and there is not a lot) will be signed up by the chosen six from now, the best players will already be aiming to join those clubs.

Giving the game away now Parky.

Could be worse mate, they could be going to the onion. I saw that article of the Toulouse centre the other day, can`t think of his name, played junior League with Farrell and Ford ( two stars for England onion I believe) before all three were lost to the other code. Hopefully they`d have a crack at the NRL before they`d take that option now.

Shows several things in no particular order.  Lack of opportunity to develop, unsuitable learning course opportunity (college/Uni), unsuitable Club system, pay, sunshine.

I am guessing the London lad is continuing his learning with Keebra Park due to the link with Wests.

He impressed me whenever I saw him. What stood out was his aggressive defence and that he loved to bend his back and put his shoulder in (you don’t see many props do that)

Looks like Newcastle Knights are now seriously interested in Pearce-Paul and Pryce.  Also that they are looking for a 2 way agreement for their older players to find options to play in SL.  Has it come to this??

Wondered what had happened to him. He was announced as signing pro terms with London but then disappeared and was never mentioned again. It happens so often with the club that you end up just shrugging your shoulders.

Good luck to him, yet another one off the conveyor belt that will disappear when the club finally turns up its toes.

He was down as No29 in their squad beginning of January so between then and now LB have lost an international representative at Academy level for a 3 year contract with Wests.

I think we’ll see more of this.

Has Dom Young shown any indication that he would like to play for England in the forthcoming World Cup or are people just aimlessly speculating?

All I've seen is his intention to represent Jamaica

It is speculation on my part but I’m unsure of his youth career or whether he played any junior rep games for England.  In my opinion, he has come on so well,he should go in the England squad at least.  If Wane doesn’t consider him then it would be disappointing.

If he goes with Jamaica it will be good to see him test himself at that level anyway.

Hmm, I'm not sure I agree with your first line (and I am referring to the young kids here, my daughter is 5). The things she enjoyed was going to the shop to look at the toy wolfies and buy a Wire shirt, playing in the concourses, having food and drink, getting her face painted, pointing out the flame machines and the dancers. Once the noise started she covered her ears

I think your point is right once they get a bit older, the atmosphere is certainly an attraction, but even older kids are attracted to the entertainment elements.

If we think a large noisy crowd attracts 4 to 6 year old then I think we are barking up the wrong tree.

Just out of interest.  What position were you in the stand?  Lower down, nearer the pitch, or to the back, furthest away?

I just watched the round one round up and i was blown away by it.

I agree with those here who think they are on a different (higher) plane.

Super League is great but in a one to twelve (SL) versus a one to twelve (NRL) competition I don't think we'd win a game.

I think Saints would do ok.  Maybe another but the depth in quality, between SL and the NRL, would show. In year 2, I think we would up the intensity and would do better but I doubt success would improve much more after, say, year 3.
