Wellens in now?
He should probably be asking your fan base the same, and Sailor might ask the same aswell.
7 of their 17 matches (and 11 Wins) have come against the bottom 4 sides in the comp this year tbf. 4 wins against the rest of the comp pretty much confirms them as a mid table average.
I always think you should judge a side by its absolute best. For Leeds for example I think, especially at Headingley, we could beat anyone in the competition at our best - our issue is that best not being replicable every week especially away from home. I just don't see that confidence from Saints fans towards their team at the moment. There isn't that belief that they could be Wigan or KR.

Do you know of any clubs from Italy, Belgium or Spain?
Wasn't there a team from Saluzzo playing in the French leagues?

I started a thread on here near the start of the season about what a great start to SL it had been this year. Great crowds, the Vegas publicity, Wakefield crowds on the UK and their progress etc and how this just wasnt being reflected in the narrative spun, particularly by the RL press and some fans.
Since then the gaslighted has intensified tremendously.
Its ironic because the basis of the coup is this gaslighting, but their success is dependent on that being nonsense.

Are there any more clubs interested in joining League 1?
I think the general vibe from the RFL right now towards France is "no thanks" (at best) so I doubt it.

I suppose it's possible IMG wanted more minimum standards. There's just no evidence for it.
They clearly did otherwise they wouldn't be the A Grade for which they would start guaranteeing super league places for.

Let's not rewrite history. There's no evidence at all that IMG wanted minimum standards P&R rather than grading. There were plenty of folks on this board that wanted that, however.
I didn't say that.
I'm saying if they came in and told every club if you don't have electronic boards, the size of media and corporate facilities we want, and the rest, they wouldn't have gotten anything agreed.

But again that the tail wagging the dog once again!
If IMG had come in and dictated to the clubs they would never have gotten anybody on board.
Unfortunately that is the political setup in the sport and one that everyone has to deal with.

But then, just make it mandatory to have the boards, as it will be part of the advertising strategy.
Such methods were not the way clubs wanted it to be, and so a compromise was reached.

Precedents can be applied both ways in cases such as these Tommy, have they now in a round about way given the green light for player's to waste time 'officially'? one thing is for certain Coaches will interpret it in such a way to take best advantage of it.
I just think if play has to be stopped then a green card should be issued, rather than just for a dr coming on. Enforce what is there and develop the rules.

There just needs to be more effective use of the green card, which is goijg well ish I think.
Horne's ban though is perfectly fair and when a player gets seriously injured from an incident like this we'll all be saying so too.

I chose the Hong Kong Stadium because it is in the foothills of the mountains on Hong Kong Island and so has a nicer setting than next to a port like the new stadium.
My choice's location also means that after taking in the game in the afternoon, i can do the specific lifetime bucket list task that I want to do more than anything in the world which is walk to the top of Victoria Peak and look out over Kowloon Bay in the evening to take in the hundreds of lit up tower blocks and skyscrapers, and all the boats in Kowloon Bay and the general hustle and bustle of one of the great world cities as the sun sets over all of that.
Get the funicular up! Smashing place to visit, Kowloon on an evening is a real adventure too.

Weird that Catalans are on that much when Sky aren't interested and don't sell any subscriptions in France. Sky mustn't have got the memo.
Even more weird that 3 of the top 6 most televised, including the most televised with 2/3 games on, finished in the bottom half!
Memos must have been missed all round that year no wonder they went to televising everyone to clear up the confusion...

A winning SL team whoever it is is televised more than others, my team was on more than Leeds a couple of years ago as discussed on these pages when the second half of the season was scheduled, Leeds were not playing very well at the time so didn't get as much as they had done previously, now as you say it doesn't matter with all games being screened.
This is the number of matches for each club from 2023, the last year not all games were broadcast:
1. Leeds Rhinos: 18 (includes one on OurLeague) 8th
2. St Helens: 17 3rd
= Warrington Wolves: 17 (includes one on OurLeague) 6th
= Wigan Warriors: 17 1st
5. Hull FC: 13 (includes three on OurLeague) 10th
= Salford Red Devils: 13 (includes two on OurLeague) 7th
7. Catalans Dragons: 11 (includes one on OurLeague) 2nd
= Hull KR: 11 4th
= Leigh Leopards: 11 5th
10. Castleford Tigers: 11th
11. Huddersfield Giants: 7 9th
12. Wakefield Trinity: 4 12th

Yes but not marking it down over a few inches. Better word would be sensible.
A few inches is important because that is our standard that we sell and operate in. It helps make every SL match of a same basic standard that the sport, league, and clubs know what they can sell, where and when.

So quoting a club very much on the rise is a good example to use, tell me tge figures of Huddersfield or Salford for a comparison.
Huddersfield and Salford failing are the opportunity for Bradford/London/York/Oldham/Halifax to overtake them and bring value to the top flight which remains the only part of the entire sports portfolio that brings in any money.

not silly ones like height of TV platform or enforced digital pitch side markings.
For a TV product these are literally the most important aspects yet to you they are "silly". Says it all.

5 quid adults a pound for kids so almost a freebie for those that don't have a season ticket, obviously the club will want to maximise spend from supporters on drinks, food and merchandise etc.
They still have to pay something and turn up. If they weren't interested they wouldn't.

Who would seriously want to associate their brand with this bunch of clowns and it's leopard-skin clad ringmaster?

Those clubs aren't in the English Premiership though are they? Genuine question, I pay as little attention to it as possible. Looking at some loose numbers on google, it had participants in league in England as 55k and Union just in England at 240k. Their new TV deal for the Premiership only is worth £40m a year, compared to ours at £20m a year. They then have a 10 team top division and we're talking of 14 teams. I don't see how we sustain that without it being substandard, without a long term plan, that isn't just go to 14 teams asap and hope a couple don't want any central funding IMO.
No they aren't but they are in the overall UK sporting ecosystem which is the comparison with RL.
I think we're in a financial situation that means our costs are lower. We have significantly smaller FT squads, from experience I'd expect it to be smaller coaching set ups too. Our only direct competition for players is the NRL who whilst clearly having some impact, is less impactful on our wage inflation than say having the French Top 14 on your doorstep is. The European competitions too require both larger squads and far greater travelling commitments than our annual or twice yearly jaunt to Catalans.
I agree however that funding is the key issue here. Clubs who cannot afford to pay £x in wages, will inevitably make the league weaker and less intense as talent is more thinly spread.
Unfortunately, despite all the claims to the contrary, I do not think there is a long term plan for 14 teams right now.
I think the whole feeling is incredibly short term and is about a value of around £5million p/a to the whole sport. That is to say the combined costs and benefits of a 7th match a week, no loop fixtures, a promoted team like Bradford with their hordes of away fans, and not paying IMG £450k a year.

How many people play Union in England compared to League? It's obviously more but numbers of Google seem all over the shop. I know nothing of the game but again searching on Google, I can see they have a 10 team top league. Looking at some results, they look to have Newcastle as the sole whipping boy, so in the main every game looks to be competitive (even if it's dross).
We're looking to potentially go to 14 teams, with far less potential to bring players through in to the clubs over a prolonged period. It just doesn't stack up for me and I don't see how long term it continues to work unless you get more people playing the game at grassroots.
They do also have 4 (for the time being) Welsh clubs, and 2 Scottish, plus one in Northern Ireland too.
They also have FT squads double the size of ours, and a proper European cup competition to factor in as well.

No, straight P&R isn't comparable in this sense at all. Under straight P & R a team that finishes top/wins the Grand Final doesn't have to worry that the team at the bottom of SL might have higher crowds/more sponsorship/more merchandise sales.
You can have absolutely woeful clubs, worse than Championship ones, stay up with P/R purely because there was 1 club worse than them. In this system multiple can move.
