The BBC coverage, at least the lack of advertisement of it, has been very disappointing.
Its certainly been easier and more visible on Sky. I wonder how this will change when Sky Sports Plus comes in.

The ideal scenario sees Old Trafford rebuilt.
Ideally in that time we would go wherever Manchester United go - be that remaining at OT during redevelopment or the Etihad. I wouldn't be averse to a Cardiff or London final though that said. The loyalty to Old Trafford has been worth it, its arguably one of the sports few long term partnerships.
This really hinges on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's ownership pushing the football club in that direction of redevelopment. If he can't get it going then there is going to come a point where it isn't good enough. I've sat in various parts of old trafford and whilst the bowl itself is very good, potentially the best in the country tied with Cardiff, the rest of the ground is really dire. Its very tired and the video on page 1 epitomises the state of things.

Do you have a sense of humour or has watching Leeds too often fried your brain of any fun?
You'll get there with Wellens soon enough

So that's half my prediction correct just need Myler sacked now to make it 100%
Privately or on TV what's your opinion
Why would Myler be sacked for this? He's not coaching them and is spending money for next season already anyway.
That's before we get to the politics behind his appointment to a senior role at Hull FC.

The other frustration was just how poor Leeds were... Jon Wiken nailed it with his description of Leeds problem area's.... all clear to the average fan all season.
What is most frustrating is these are, in the main, exactly the same problems from last season too.

Does Lingard get sacked next game if Cas fail to compete with basket-case Hull FC???
I wouldn't think so. I don't think anyone at Cas thinks he has the resources to compete.

Bit dramatic.
He's flipped him over to be piled down directly onto his neck with his head bent towards his chest.
Alex McKinnon's life changing tackle was less aggressive.

Definite red, could have paralysed him

Don't think NRL will give a toss what IMG think
You don't think the professional organisation that is the NRL will give a toss what the professional global organisation IMG think despite them having conducted the single most in depth audit into the market the NRL are allegedly buying into ever?

That's a very harsh red, but its the rules.
Even in full speed it doesn't look great.

Nothing in that marginally late tackle on Lomax.
Committed and wrap; harsh to penalise.
It annoys me that its a penalty, but it would annoy me more as a Cas fan that the tackler was lazy and followed through anyway.

I don't think there's realistically anything you could do now to revive RL in London, no matter how much money spent. The Broncos are a dead donkey, having been slowly killed over many years. The people who used to support the club are gone and they aren't coming back, they've been gone too long now. Could you replace them? No, not in my opinion.
Cities like London always have a demographic churn, it's the nature of the place, but the changes seen in the last 10-15 years have been astronomical and I think you'd struggle to find more than a couple of thousand people here who even know Rugby League exists. Sure, quite a lot of people have heard of 'rugby', but all they know is there's an England team that plays out in Twickenham and occasionally plays in word cups on the telly. They've also heard of the All Blacks. Beyond that, they have no interest in it at all, and that's a sport that does get national reach. Expecting them to know about RL, a sport with no real presence in London or the media, is like expecting someone in Latvia to know about it. It's just completely alien.
Meanwhile, there's another thread on here detailing the community game in London and, from reading that, it looks smaller than it's been in 20 years.
So if you wanted to do anything here, you'd essentially be starting from scratch. You'd have to fund a dozen development officers, for a decade at least. You'd have to fund a professional club - not just a team on the field, but club as a whole - for the same period of time. You'd have to find a home to play out of, and stay there permanently without falling out with the owners, which is something the club has never managed in its history. And you'd have to get pretty much every decision right over that time, day in day out, week after week, for a decade. Make any significant mistakes and you undo any successes. On top of that, the ongoing churn of people coming here for a few years and then moving on means you'd also have to be committed to an ongoing cycle of finding new players and fans to replace the ones who leave. And doing all of that in a media environment that thinks you're irrelevant.
Not only would it cost an absolute fortune, but it would require a level of expertise - and luck - that none of us have ever seen. To transplant an alien sport to a city with a transient population and a million competing entertainment options...nah, sorry, I don't think it's possible. It might have been, at the dawn of SL and the move to summer, but that's many years and many failures ago now.
I see totally the point you are making. Imo the future of any London clubs will be as hubs for wider southern/south eastern RL fans primarily.
-
London Broncos moving to Wimbledon and simultaneously going Semi-Pro killed Skolars imo sadly. The state of the game can't be judged on these clubs alone, but looking at them it isn't healthy.

Absolutely, it just shows how big the differences are though.

Interesting to see Halifax owe Calderdale Council almost a year's unpaid rent.
I believe the figure is around 50k

Its really poor that a club like Halifax aren't paying a sum like that - it demonstrates the massive gulf between the operating level of clubs at their level and the full time game...

Will be interesting to see how he goes at 6 which is where he played for Canberra.
I think we’ve got too many out to get over Cats but just hope we give it a good crack and the kids who are in play well
Yeah I wonder if he'll switch sides or Sinfield will. Hopefully he bounces back from the disappointment of the past fortnight.
I agree, just got to be a good performance here. Catalans are beatable, but we'd have to play well and rely on a meltdown from them as we have seen in the past. We do seem to be a bit of a bogey team for them too recently.

I'm just not sure you are gonna click your fingers and make the Cup more attractive, it's going to need something bold to work.
I agree with that, but I'm 100% convinced that a system that ended up with cup games on Season Tickets for home fans would instantly boost attendances and make the whole thing seem, visibly at least, to be much more alive than it is now.

In the UK maybe, elsewhere no. Plus anyone who just wants RL can have SL+

You may be right, although Leeds last game had lots of free tickets for dancers and their families... 13000 plus gate surprised me given the season tickets are less than 10000 and limited travelling fans from London.
Although a separate subject do the free tickets get classed as attendance in IMG world versus season ticket holders that don't turn up not being counted.
Even if they were 1000, even 2000 freebies, that would still mean over 4000 more than attended the cup game!
Not 100% sure re IMG. If I remember correctly it is measured on people in the stadium (so they would count). Obviously counter measure to this is that freebies cost money and investment, which is also something IMG monitor. I don't think there's a way to fudge it too much really.

The focus of fans has moved from cup to league and now league and now league games outdraw cup games - is that really a bad thing?
We've built up a consumer base on one model, over 30 years, and wonder why adopting a totally different approach for one off games delivers worse results with our customer base.

I would agree but using your often quoted example of the Leeds v Saints cup game...
A more worrying concern should be the relatively lack of interest in attending a RL game featuring two of the biggest clubs and after a particular good game of RL the week before between them.
Plus I wonder how many season tickets holders paid to watch the cup game as distinct from non season tickets holders not bothering. I have no idea but just maybe the one's that attended were mainly season ticket holders thus negating the argument that season tickets holders would only turn up if they have already paid.
Look at Widnes vs Donny or literally any other comparison mate.
I agree the lack of interest is poor, but reflected in the fact that more people turn out to Season Ticketed games rather than one off match purchases. There's no reason Leeds vs London last Friday also got thousands more people to it than the cup tie too other than that imo.
I think there is a drop across the board. Its impossible to deny a drop of over half and say its negated

They would probably have to put the prices of the s/t up but it would already be paid for so surely they would attend ?
Correct, People attend fixtures they have already paid for on season tickets regardless of stature, "meaning" or opponent in far greater numbers than they attend paid for matches.

A direct comparison between a Cup match and a League match featuring the same opponents.
Now, how would a parade at the final increase the Cup attendance?
How much healthier would the cup look and feel if matches were included on season tickets??
