  1. Well the old enemy are back here this weekend and we can expect yet another nail biter.

The big question is what team will SL put out against them. They are no mugs and deserve respect so wholesale changes will only help them. Also, after last weekend's game against Batley there is a need to show the real Oldham.

It also needs to be remembered a trip to Wembley is at stake. Oldham by 30. (I meant to say 3 but 30 just appeared.)

  2. Attendance is a major concern for the board having spent a lot of money getting the club to where it is. In the good old days we had billboards around the town, we also had the Oldham Evening Chronicle today we don't have any advertising of matches other than some social media sites.

How this is remedied i don't know other than getting into the great amateur clubs in the town, into schools, into anywhere where people will see Oldham Rugby. I'd even try doctor's surgeries  and dentists, what about at bus stops and trams? Are our games advertised at Latics games?

    Anything is better than nowt.

  3. With so many reasons for the poor attendance against York last week i.e. too many home games, start of the school holidays and a poor away following, I feel today's attendance will be even lower due to expense, the weather and the football.

It might be wise to postpone the game due to dangerously high winds.

  4. Was there when we beat them last time! Let's hope they underestimate how far we have come.

BUT why Friday night - it doesn't make sense and who decided?

  5. Sad to hear that Bill was disappointed at the crowd for the York game. I feel having so many home games on the bounce and it being the start of the school holidays will have contributed to the low attendance.

Being honest i don't think today's attendance will be much higher due to the same reasons added to the bad weather being forecast.

  6. All the best to our Barrow friends for the coming season. Your biggest chance is if you can have Moore refereeing you every week. The penalty count was 16 - 4 in your favour against us. It just shows what a team of "old" men can do when their backs are to the wall.

  7. A couple of things.

If the ball is blown out of play i.e. over the touchline, or is blown back after going over the cross bar for a goal and in both cases doesn't hit the ground, what's the decision? Similar to Sunday's game when they kicked off the ball in the air went over the ten and came back - he said play on.

The second question is, if we ever have the chance of being able to name a stand at BP, who would you name it after?

  8. I've been watching RL for over 60 years and I've seen a referee as bad as the bloke in the middle. During the second half I thought I was at a Nurenberg rally with him sticking his arm up!

There was one occasion he gave his solute at least six times on the Oldham line it was incredible how the lads kept them out - a fantastic defensive display throughout the whole game, it's a shame they and the bloke in the middle scored at the end.

The penalty score was 16 to the ref and 4 to us.

Can't wait for next weekend - as long as that bloke in the middle isn't trying to referee.

  9. Lot's of mixed messages coming out some good and positive and others a little pessimistic about last night's game. Didn't Rochdale have about 10 players on the bench compared to our 4 - if so that would obviously make a difference and nothing has been said about the ref. He was clueless. Offsides and lying on at the tackle were missed so playing into Rochdale's hands. Good luck to them they played the ref and got away with it.

It might be a good idea for Sean to find out who is going to ref future matches to look for what he/she sees and misses.

Decent crowd for a Wednesday night, we won and Sean saw more of what his squad has to offer. Lot's of positives - the season PROPER can't come soon enough.

And best of luck to our neighbours for the coming season and hope we are both playing in the championship next season.

  10. I know it was only a friendly and Wigan left out some of their big guns, but the side they put out I'm sure would have held its own against many superleague sides.

Having said that with a better start, a little more luck and a decent ref we could, and should have won. Like someone on this site has said Wigan were knackered towards the end but we were still forcing the game late on. Looking forward to the Law Cup on Wednesday, just hope all of the lads came through OK. Then Rochdale again on Sunday i.e. Mayfield in the cup.

It's a shame the promise they made about them bringing all of their trophies didn't materialise but it was good to see our trophies.
