  1. Surely the Knights were aware the stadium was unavailable on this weekend, so why didn't they announce that the Cup game would be played elsewhere? In my opinion this is just another example of poor communication with the fans, some of who will have organised their plans around a Sunday game at the LNER.

  2. There is a reason clubs veto deals like this, they put their supporters first!. Clubs, (fans), get messed about with match days and kick off times, and consequently their attendances are down. 2 seasons ago, we had to travel to Barrow on a Bank Holiday Monday evening, and our home game against Bradford was also moved to a Monday night. Hardly anybody travelled from Bradford, and the attendance was way down on what it would have been on a Sunday afternoon. I hope the money received from Premier Sports or whoever compensates for this, because one thing it will not do, is bring in new fans.

I do understand what you mean. But, to me at least, it has felt like the ordinary fan is quite far down the list of priorities now. Corporate guests, media opportunities, sponsors and business partnerships all seem higher up the agenda. And maybe that is just the way it has to be now in this IMG world 🤷‍♀️

The best PR/publicity any club can get is through the fans. If any club alienates them for any reason, they don't deserve the support. Isn't  'Fandom' a part of the grading system as well? I accept the club are striving to meet the off field criteria to achieve SL status, but what happens on the field is important too. No good being promoted on the strength of a nice shiny stadium, if the team are getting hammered every week.

TBF, she's not going to say he's been ######, is she 😄

But joking aside, I always admired Whiting as a player. Hard as nails, excelled in a multitude of positions, just a good old fashioned honest rugby league player, IMO.

If he can pass on his attitude and approach to the game to the Valkyrie squad then they will only improve.

I think it's a very positive move, but the point I am wanting to make, is why wasn't it announced by the club? Communication with the fans is very poor at the minute.

    Rich Whiting replaced Callum Windley.

There is an article on page 2 of this week's League Express with Lindsay Anfield saying the former Hull FC player is having a positive effect on the squad.

What's happening with Cunningham is he injured or has he left the knights?

Who knows? Who knew Brad Ward had gone to Newcastle, is it a loan or permanent? Who knew the Valkyrie had a new assistant coach? Just seems to be loads of secrecy about the Knights at the minute. Why, or am I missing out by not using social media?

Maybe Clint missed a trick , perhaps he should have offered you the job of head coach as you seem to have far more idea than the incumbent who it would seem, as far as you are concerned, doesn’t know what he is doing or where to play his players. I am sure if you offered to join him even in an advisory capacity he would snap your hand off with all your incite and knowledge of the game. The people to blame, if that is what you want to do, for that performance falls squarely on the shoulders of the players, too many had an off day. We certainly missed Jordy and his go forward,, and the guile of the ghost, but that is no excuse, the players on the park, on paper, were good enough to compete. I also think Donny may make one or two other teams. In the  championship sit up and take notice of them, especially at home.

Everybody knew after the Bradford play off game last season, we needed a big hairy ar**d forward  so why didn't we get one? He let Pauli go, and should have looked for a replacement. Also many fans who go every week, have stated over and over again, that Myles is a full back and not a centre, and Brown is a winger. We let in so many soft tries with defenders out of position, did Hendo even consider giving it a try while he was experimenting with the team in the cup games. We have won 3 of the six games we have played, all against teams ranked lower than we are. We have been comprehensively beaten by three teams at our (assumed) level. Like communication with the fans, something isn't right.

Could end up with no half backs by the second game of the season.

Haven't we been there before?  Hopefully Harris will be fit, he was touch and go for Sunday according to Hendo.

  9. Brad Ward was in the squad yesterday, yet ended up playing for Newcastle. Has he signed for them, or gone on loan D/R? Have I missed sosmething?

  10. Acorn travel to Halifax today as the last community club in the Challenge Cup. They have done very well to make it this far, and hopefully have added a few quid into the coffeers.  They face a daunting task this afternoon, but I'm sure they will give it their all. Good luck lads.

Jordan yes but we have very good full back options in Alex Donaghy and Joe Brown plus Myles can cover at centre.

Or of course Myles could go straight in at full back, (his proper position), and not mess anybody else about. I'd imagine Myler will play full back, and who knows, maybe our forgotten man Ata may put in an appearance.

4 York player’s got bans don’t know when they will be

Bans don't come into effect until next week, so all 3 of them are available this Sunday if selected.

  13. Following the latest round of Betfred Challenge Cup fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

    • Jordan Thompson (York Knights) – Grade C Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
    • Jesse Dee (York Knights) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice (Higher end of grade)
    • Will Dagger (York Knights) – Grade D Headbutt – 2 Match Penalty Notice and £125 Fine
    • Jordan Thompson (York Knights) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice (Higher end of grade)
    • Thanks 4
  14. At least if we do pick up any suspensions from last week they won't come into force until the first game of the league season. They will all be available this weekend if selected.

If I had to write down an all-time 'rattled' team of opposition players that live in my head rent free, both Anthony Thackeray and Joel Farrell would be in that XIII...

    Dane Chisholm would be captain.

    George Flanagan?

Looking at the highlights now up on YouTube, both the binnings for the late hits were soft (looked nothing more than penalties to me) .

No matter how you look at it, the hits by Thomson, and Dee were long after the ball had gone, and deserving of a yellow card. I'm sure you would think differently had those hits been by Sheffield players. I would hope there will be no suspensions, but I would not be at all surprised if Jesse in particular, got a ban.

    2 hours ago, Expatknight said:

Like I have said in the past, this is how Sheffield play, generally spoiling tactics, Thackeray in the refs ear all the time, loads of niggles at the play the ball, not an attractive side to watch but no doubt Aston will say it gets results. We should be smarter and not rise to the bait and, as you say, we could have won this game if we had kept a full team out there. A very frustrating afternoon.

    Spot on!

Is Hingano injured or just out of favour?

Got to admit, I've wondered that. He never gets mentioned in injury updates. He'll be one of our top paid players, we should be getting something for our money. He would have been just what we needed yesterday to prise the Sheffield defence open.

  18. 13 hours ago, JonT said:

Yep. Winning the 1895 is worth 0.1 points. Each league place is worth 0.11 points. But it's eminently more possible than getting the 0.25 on offer for winning the Challenge Cup which is why we will not see a first choice 17 against Sheffield but we will see the strongest 17 we have available for the Oldham game.

Can't argue with the logic, but a good cup run attracts a lot of interest, and can have a positive knock on effect on attendances. As fandom is also a part of the IMG plans, I think we should be paying the Challenge Cup a bit more respect when it comes to team selection. All any team wants in a cup competition is a home draw. We have got one, lets make the most of it.
