At this stage last year, Featherstone probably had a slightly stronger looking squad than Leigh. I suppose it’s not how you start, but how you finish, with Leigh able to sign players through the year. If Featherstone and Toulouse can add to their rosters through the year, it will be some ending to the year, yet without even mentioning clubs like Batley, York, Halifax and Barrow, who are capable of beating most sides on their day.

When Elite 1 finishes TO should have a chance to strengthen later next year.  There are a couple of lads who should be good enough to play in the championship, Marguerite played in the championship before so I can see him stepping up again. Depends on injuries too. Toulouse do have more home games the second half of the season which might give them an edge. They did OK last season re: injuries, just not good enough with who they did have.

    Even against Toulouse?

At this moment Featherstone should be favourite to win the league, they seem to have bought everyone available. TO are too light this year, they have lost too many players and that means the new guys (and they are still very short of numbers) will need a lot of time to get playing properly. They are getting the spine of the team sorted but still need a larger squad.

TO still need to sign a couple of big forwards to make them competitive.

I think they play Fev in June so maybe that will be enough time to see how things pan out. I wouldn't be surprised to see TO lose 6or7 games this season.

Thought this was another insult that had fallen foul of the swearing filter for a moment....😀

I might be wrong but this smacks of a team that's become desperate for a half back.

TO at least have a half back now.

They need another plus a couple of forwards...at least. I know of one forward who is about to sign, but, you know, commentators curse and all that.

Which I abhor, let's stop importing SH has beens, or wannabes, let homegrown players fill the ranks of English and French teams. At least then in a few years time we won't be looking at 30% of Super league players being eligible to play for multiple SH national teams.

    I agree with you.

Unfortunately it's a win at all cost mentality, so money talks.

Was going to say something similar regarding quota spaces. Saints were linked with a PNG winger (as were a couple of other Super League clubs) and Josh Mansour but that would have meant losing a quota player, as they are at the max. The player rumoured to leave was James Bell to Salford, Toulouse or Featherstone but that went quiet when Tee Ritson was signed.

James won't come back to TO, he, or rather Mrs, didn't get on with France.

Seen an article today mentioning Luke Gale, Brad Takairangi, Caleb Aekins, Matty Russel and Samisoni Langi are still without a club. Has anyone heard any whispers? I did hear Takairangi was to join Hull FC but that was months agao before they had Smith in charge so things may have changed.

I did also think that there would an influx of signings off the back of the world cup from PNG, Fiji, Lebanon etc, but there seems to be very little movement at the moment. Granted there's still plenty of time before the season starts.

Whispers tell me Langi will stay in France, but that's all it is at the moment.

Matty's agent has been tarting him around many clubs, quite frankly, the winner is quite welcome to him.

No mention of Patton on the Toulouse Olympique website, but if he is going there, maybe to soon yet for an announcement.

Joe Bretherton is staying at TO XIII for what will be his fifth or sixth season there.

There will be news very soon, but I've not heard his name mentioned. Joe is recovering from an ankle op so it will be a while before he starts any pre-season

Where have the likes of Le Cam gone released from Catalan?

He doesn't doesn't seem to be on the TO radar. What is on the radar looks OK, but to be honest, getting anyone to come to France for championship money is difficult. They need new money to kick start a new campaign.

I struggle to grasp deals sometimes. Three year deal at Sheffield. How much would it take to sign a deal like that at mediocre Sheffield. The home ground is absolutely soulless at this time. If you sign for one year and do the business 5hen surely you have a chance of prospering beyond. Just don’t get it sometimes.

It's just a generic contract, it will have multiple cop-out clauses to allow them to leave.

A few days ago I was trying to work out who had left and who was staying at Toulouse and I came up with this list (may not be 100% correct)
    Staying
    Olly Ashall-Bott
    Benjamin Laguerre
    Latrell Schaumkel
    Matthieu Jussuame
    Paul Marcon
    Lambert Belmas
    Guy Armitage
    Harrison Hansen
    Joe Bretherton
    Maxime Stefani
    Anthony Marion
    Dom Peyroux
    Eloi Pelissier
    Hugo Pezet

    Leaving
    Justin Sangare
    Cory Norman
    Romain Navarette
    Matty Russell
    Chris Hankinson
    Maxime Puech
    Lucas Albert
    Andrew Dixon
    Tony Gigot
    Nathan Peats
    Lloyd White
    Joseph Paulo
    Mitch Garbutt

Not sure about one or two others ( such as James Cunningham, Ilias Bergal, Daniel Alvaro).

On the one hand, I think 11 of the staying players played in their final SL game where they gave a good account at St Helens, so they are still going to have the nucleus of a strong squad at Championship level.

On the other hand, they have lost a lot of quality players, and it sounds like they are going to be relying on a lot of younger players stepping up from their reserves or maybe other Elite 1 teams.

James is staying, Daniel not. Unsure about Ilias, I assume staying (for now).

Lloyd won't play again, he had a massive operation to fix his back, which is a shame for him.  Lucas has an ACL injury and probably won't play for anyone before the end of May next year anyway.

Dragging is part of modern RL. Players going in with a genuine tackle should be allowed to drive someone into touch or over the try line. Someone coming in with no genuine tackle technique but simply to drag someone is something I'd like to see stopped. It's hard enough to run the touchline or fight your way off the try line as it is.

Did seem a bit harsh to be honest. If the player is on their feet then fair enough, some skill is needed from the tackler(s) to keep the player up. On their knees is a bit rough though. A couple of the other "stripping" decisions were a bit off too. Wouldn't make much difference to the result though, NZ are a very good side. I do have a soft spot for the French No4, Lauréane, she came over for a weekend to help chop logs
