The punch in the first tackle almost has an air of premeditated tactic about it.

Could be a tactic to see if the opposition is up for a fight. A few more niggly digs, early enough for the ref to let go, and hope for a reaction later which could get an opposition player binned. It's not in the spirit of the game for me, but players will use everything at their disposal to try and get an edge.

Tremendous win for Swinton. Toulouse really don't seem to be travelling well at all, to be fair they're still missing quite a few players but that wasn't a bad team they put out today on paper.

That was a good TO team. Swinton must have played very well. They do have form against TO as they beat them at Blagnac in 2019.  I will get some feedback about the performance from No1 son...but not today, he will be spitting feathers tonight.

TO will have 2 Dragons on board at Swinton. Centre  Laguerre and hooker Tison. Both played for France last weekend. Laguerre has played 29 Super League games for the Dragons

Calum Gahan should get his first run out, I assume Tison is brought in because Calum won't manage the 80 minutes.

On paper TO should be comfortable winners, however I was there at Blagnac in 2019 when Swinton beat TO 18-20

.....the worst attended bash evet to date.

Not many tickets left to be honest. I bought two yesterday and a lot of the stadium is sold out. Not a very big stadium though, but if it can be almost full for some games it would be good.

The other code in France is fairly dominant atm so there are good rugby players there they just need to tap into that talent pool.

I raised the same thing with No1 son recently. Apparently there will be a big pool of 15s players available soon and I suggested why not tap into it. For TO, Guy Armitage seems to have made the step over reasonably OK, but he won't set the RL world on fire. However....money and time are the issues. It's a step down financially to league, and for most of the players, you have to put a lot of effort and time into retraining, and more importantly reconditioning.

You're arguing that rugby league fans aren't interested enough in their own sport to watch an international match played in its own backyard. And you're probably right. We'll find out on Saturday.

That's pretty damning though, isn't it? Of us, collectively, as fans of this sport, not anyone else.

Fans constantly moan that the national media ignores rugby league, without acknowledging their own role in the reason why that is.

"Dear BBC, and other broadcasters, why aren't you paying attention to international rugby league? Yours sincerely, rugby league fans."

"Dear rugby league fans, we will when you do, love, the BBC and other broadcasters."

It's too easy to bag the RFL for playing this game in Warrington. It's just another excuse. It shouldn't matter where it is played. It's the national team we're talking about here! They should be able to play anywhere and pull a decent crowd, especially in the sport's own heartlands.

But in rugby league, they can't. Stadium is too big, or it's too small, it's too near, or too faraway, tickets are too expensive, or too cheap, etc etc etc. There's always a reason not to go, and those reasons will quite happily contradict each other. Take ticket pricing, for example. At the World Cup, empty seats were 'too expensive', now the empty seats at Warrington are too 'bargain basement'. So what's the happy medium, the perfect price? There isn't one. Nor is there a perfect venue, location, or a perfect time.

The bottom line is this: do you want to watch England play or not?

For most rugby league fans, the answer seems to be the latter. And that's fine, if as fans we are also prepared to accept the consequences of that for our sport, and not complain when the world around us largely ignores our game.

Let's be honest about one other key factor, too. The RFL simply does not possess the funds to indulge in the kind of glitzy, wall-to-wall promotion of its events that some other sports do, or to hire fancy third-party stadia that may end up half-empty and losing money. To expect that of them, frankly, is peeing in the wind.

It's up to us to support our own game, first and foremost. We know when and where the England v France game is being played (two games, for the price of one in this case) and it is price-pitched at an affordable level, and it is in a stadium that can easily pull in five-figure crowds to watch even a bog-standard potentially one-sided uncompetitive club game.

So put all the excuses to one side and if you can go, get down there, fill the stadium on Saturday to watch England v France, Women's and Men's internationals.

If we do that, maybe, just maybe, we can start to build a national profile for our sport from the ground up, and the broadcasters and the media will start to pay attention and the RFL will have more cash coming into its coffers to make arguably bolder and more exciting choices in venues, locations and promotional activities in future.

Delighted that we will be able to watch both Saturday games in France. Some sense prevailed in the end. It would have been criminal to only broadcast an international game for the home team supporters.

Hold that coach!!! Final u19s cancelled as the semi final Lézignan v Toulouse is going to be replayed due to some silly rules of u19s playing too many first team games and not being allowed to play in cup games or the federation getting their own rules wrong!!! Or something like that. They may play the semi at Brutus so the big losers are the carcassonne u19s! So maybe the coaches don't need to be cancelled, only in France!!!

These people are supposed to be organising 4 different world cups in 2025!!!

I got an update for this yesterday. Basically, Toulouse read the rule book and Lézignan didn't, and the federation representative didn't know their own rules. So Lézignan didn't play the player they thought was available on the say-so of the federation man, whereas Toulouse played their two as per the rule book. Game to be replayed, I assume so that Lézignan can play their man now. All a bit of a farce to be honest and doesn't make the federation look good in any of this.

Carcassonne played well though yesterday, I only caught a bit of it as I was at a 7's competition most of the day in Toulouse. Some of the elite 7's players would make excellent 13's halves !

C'mon Kev, you say living in a country is a big commitment for 5 years? The  player's who do choose to take that route are doing it because it is their chosen profession and they are gainfully employed.

Schaumkel is a Kiwi by birth, represented Niue in the Emerging Nations WC, went to Manley Warringah playing second grade, then to North Sydney Bears but played second grade for them, so sought to further his carrear in France, I would put it to you Kev there is no big commitment on his part, he didn't make it in Australia hence living and playing in France helps him in putting a bigger crust on the table than he could buy elsewhere.

We will never ever agree on International Eligibility Rules, I think they are far to lax and devalue what earning international recognition should be all about.

His knees have now said enough is enough. So his table crust has turned to dust. It's a sad day when a player has to retire at 28.

Coming to Gilbert Brutus for the game two years since the Lord Derby Cup is a winner this Saturday. For a start having two former  Dragons players of note in Gigot and Esccare on opposite sides.

The entry is free for all 13 year olds and entries for all Dragons ticket holders. The restaurant too will be open from midday till 3pm. The first start with U15s Catalan-Salon at 11.30am, followed by U17s Albi-Baho (Perpignan) at 1pm and then U19s Carcassonne-Toulouse at 3pm before the Elite 1 Final at 5.15pm which will be 'streamed' by the Toulouse television station ViàOccitanie.

The Carcassonne coach Fred Camel saw his side have an easy run-out last last weekend at Villeneuve (0-42) while Albi took on Lezignan in a tough match (24-14). Camel is expecting a Cup Final after the home leagues games went even. He will expect a very hard game. He said the Tarn side have developed into a professional outfit,"very good for our game".

Toulouse are putting on special coaches for the day for supporters
