He was investigating the leakage of state secrets and Steed discovers that each of the three suspects had a childhood nanny, Nanny Roberts, who is being held captive for information at a sinister school for nannies whose head plans to destroy the nation's power stations by impersonating nannies and hypnotizing the men into giving him their locations. Steed and Emma pay the school a visit to stop him.

    10. NEVER NEVER SAY DIE.
The Avengers "are needed" after reports that a motorist has repeatedly run over and supposedly killed the same person. Their investigations lead them to the country and the top secret Neoteric Research Unit, which is run by the appropriately-named Dr. Frank N. Stone, who has made a startlingly life-like robot of himself, so much so that Steed finds it hard to tell the two Stones apart.

  4. 7. THE LIVING DEAD.
Five years after a mine disaster, Mrs. Peel and Steed are called upon to investigate the spooky goings-on at the local inn. The ghost of the 16th Duke of Benedict, who was reputedly lost in the mine disaster, has been seen wandering the area and Emma joins SMOG and FOG in a ghost hunt. The Duke's ghost supposedly takes Emma with him to his final resting place in the collapsed mine, but Steed descends into the shaft to rescue her. He finds a secret underground city that is being used to stage an invasion of England; the mine disaster was just a cover-up for the plan. Steed rescues Emma and country by cutting off access to the topside elevator.

  8. FINAL STORY..

THE DAY OF THE CLONE ( 6 episodes)

Liz and Simon have escaped the destruction of Earth in the future and returned to 1970. However, Liz has now inexplicably disappeared, and Simon decides to find her; his search takes him to Traynor's newly founded Ministry, where he meets several members of staff who seem to be the originals of the clones staffing the Technocrat headquarters in 1990. Learning of a mysterious research establishment designated R1, Simon decides to investigate; sneaking inside, he soon finds Liz imprisoned in a room without windows, and manages to set her free. Together, the two children explore the complex and find it full of elderly people; however, before they can learn more, Liz and Simon are discovered by Traynor and his men, who try to capture them. With the help of an old lady named Maria, Simon and Liz manage to escape, and, after heading for the abandoned naval base where the time barrier is located, they travel back to the research institute in 1965. Here they learn that R1 was established by Morgan Devereux, and that a number of young people – including Maria - have volunteered for scientific tests. Liz and Simon realise that the volunteers they met in 1970 have all been prematurely aged by an early version of the longevity drug, and that Devereux’s death in 1969 was a result of him trying the experimental drug on himself. The children also meet a younger version of Traynor, who is attempting to learn the truth behind secret operations happening at the institute. Having uncovered explanations for The Ice Box and the Technocrat Masterplan, Simon and Liz are then captured by Devereux, and subjected to a deadly experimental sonic beam. Meanwhile, in 1970, it seems that Commander Traynor’s plans are about to come to fruition - but is he the real  Traynor..?

  9. 3. THE YEAR OF THE BURN UP  (8 episodes)

After Liz and Simon return to the present, Simon is summoned to Whitehall by Traynor. Although the commander is still interested in the longevity drug that Simon saw in The Ice Box, he warns the boy to stay out of the future; however, this only serves to pique Simon’s interest. Liz realises that she misses Simon, and decides to join him; together they once more travel through the time barrier, this time arriving in an alternate version of 1990, in an England that is a lush, tropical jungle. Here the two children once more encounter Beth, but this alternate version is a much friendlier person because she did not take the intelligence enhancement treatment, and she is the leader of a commune of ‘misfits’ who live a primitive but simple life in the jungle. This version of 1990 is ruled by the Technocrats, a scientifically-advanced elite that has no interest in anyone of a lesser intelligence, and who are carrying out a Masterplan that will re-shape the world into a more ordered state. Unfortunately, these experiments are causing vast global-warming, and the Earth is rapidly drying up. Simon soon encounters a Technocrat known only as ‘2957’ – in truth Simon’s future self; together, the two of them travel to the future version of Whitehall, where they learn that sabotage is disrupting the Masterplan. With time running out Simon tries desperately to discover the identity of the saboteur, and he soon finds that it is none other than another future version of Commander Traynor. This alternate Traynor was the originator of the Technocrat Masterplan - and his scheme is about to cause the destruction of the entire planet in a blanket of fire…

  10. 2. TIME OF THE ICE BOX (6 episodes)

Liz and Simon leave the naval base in World War II and attempt to return to the present via the time barrier; however, they instead arrive in the freezing, snowy wastes of the Antarctic in the year 1990. After passing out from the cold, they are rescued by personnel from an underground research base named The Ice Box, run by a man named Morgan Devereux. Liz and Simon meet scientists Doctor Bukov, Doctor Edith Joynton, and Jean Skinner, who is investigating her telepathic powers. After the two children also encounter Beth Skinner, Liz’s cold and arrogant future self, they decide to leave, and manage to use the barrier to return to 1970. However, they are both soon convinced into returning to 1990 by Commander Traynor, who wants to discover what developments are being researched in the future, particularly a longevity drug called HA57, which the scientists are testing on themselves. Traynor also reveals that he knew Devereux, and that he supposedly died in 1969. Liz and Simon return toThe Ice Box, and learn from Jean that when she and Frank lost their home in the late 1970's, Liz took an intelligence enhancement course which altered her entire personality; she changed her name to Beth and then suggested that they go to The Ice Box. While Liz tries to discover what has happened to her father, Simon learns that Devereux is actually an experimental clone. However, he has become unstable and is now suffering from blackouts - and his mental link with the base computer may result in the destruction of The Ice Box and everyone in it…

THE WRONG END OF TIME (6 episodes)

Jean and Frank Skinner take their daughter Liz on holiday to the village of St. Oswalds, in the Midlands; also with them is Simon Randall, whose mother has recently died and whose father, Tom, is Frank’s ‘oldest friend’. Learning that a local girl named Sarah has mysteriously disappeared, Simon and Liz decide to investigate the nearby disused naval base, where the missing girl was last seen. They encounter an invisible energy barrier, and when they pass through it, find themselves on the same base, but now during World War II. After the two children are arrested by the base personnel they encounter a sailor named Frank, and realise that he is Liz’s father; they are then taken to meet the officer in charge, Commander Traynor, who believes them to be enemy spies. Back in 1970, the present version of Traynor prevents Jean and Frank from notifying the police of their daughter’s disappearance; it seems that he has another agenda. Meanwhile, in the Time Bubble in 1940, Liz and Simon watch helplessly as the base is taken over by German troops led by Herr Kapitan Gottfried, who have come to steal a top secret project that Traynor is overseeing. As events in the past play out, the truth behind Frank’s amnesia is revealed - but it may come at the cost of Liz’s life.

    9. THE HOUR THAT NEVER WAS

Steed and Mrs Peel swerve to avoid a dog and crash into a tree. The clock in the car smashes and stops just before 11 o'clock. Steed knows the area well and the two set out on foot to visit an old RAF base. They enter the lounge and find it set for a party but everyone is absent. They do not yet notice that the clock has stopped at 11 and the fish in the tank have frozen still. Outside they find an unattended car at a petrol pump with petrol flooding from it. The other buildings of the base are empty and a milk cart is abandoned. Seeing the name Geoffrey in the book, they visit his quarters and also find it empty and an electric shaver still running. They find the air control tower empty and then spot the milkman fleeing across the tarmac. He is shot dead.

Looking for the culprit, they find a rabbit alive but unconscious, and later the body of the milkman disappears. Steed and Mrs Peel separate and investigate the base further. Mrs Peel discovers the body of the milkman on his float just as a deafening shrill noise and quake shakes through the base. When the noise eventually stops, Steed returns to the lounge to get himself a drink at the bar, whereupon he discovers the frozen fish and stopped clock. Outside he discovers a vagrant looking in the dustbins. Steed gives him a drink in the lounge and the vagrant says he also experienced the shrill noise. A dog enters which belongs to the gate tender and is known to the vagrant. Steed approaches the gate house and is struck unconscious by a falling barrier.

The scene then returns to the crashed car and Steed emerging from it as if the crash had just happened. Mrs Peel is missing. Steed returns to the base and finds the lounge bustling with activity; he is greeted by old comrades. They tell Steed that Mrs Peel had rung, telling them that she was unable to attend, and they say there is no tramp living on the premises. Outside Steed discovers the dog who leads him to the dead body of the tramp, just as the milkman drives off (with the body of the original milkman on the back). The milkman takes the body into the cook house. When Steed approaches he finds the apparently dead milkman alive and well and busy. The milkman and an accomplice take out new bodies from the medical centre and put them on the back of the float. Steed investigates the clinic. He overpowers a guard and discovers Mrs Peel tied up and unable to recall anything since the accident. Looking at the equipment, Mrs Peel surmises that the people in the airbase had been hypnotized and programmed to potentially create sabotage. As Steed plays with an ultrasonic device, the people in the lounge hear the shrill deafening noise over the speakers as he and Mrs Peel realize what has happened.

One of Steed's old friends and an accomplice show themselves and hold Steed and Mrs Peel at gunpoint. They reveal a plan to auction off the 30 hypnotically programmed military people to the highest bidder. Steed and Mrs Peel overcome these criminals but not before laughing gas is set off leaving them in hysterics.
