    I'll edit this

No it isn't , it is a club stadium ( LSV ) record , our club record is 23,000 at Hilton Park apparently, myself personally was 12,000+ against Wigan for a cup quarter final in 2001

It was while we were still officially a Championship club however , last night's attendance is the highest we've ever achieved in SL

The 23,000 was in the late sixties against Wigan in the challenge cup, but the record was v. St. Helens in the 50’s, 31,000 with no Health and Safety!!

It seems to be Fields bogey ground as far as injuries go, and incidentally probably not far of the same square yard of turf, that injury put Field out for a long time, and most likely cost Mr Lam his job, no more needs saying.

That game in 2021 was the first round at Headingley due to Covid not at LSV. It was his first match for Wigan and didn’t play again that season.

Sunday afternoon is without doubt in my opinion the best, followed by Saturday, Thursday and Friday evenings are not so good, especially having to traverse the Pennines when the games are finishing at around 10pm, I doubt that 30% of those who travelled over from Leigh would have done so had it been a weekday evening start, I wouldn't have made the journey, as it was I was back home before 8.00pm, not well gone midnight as would have been the case.

We got back for 7 o clock. Would have been sooner but for the ridiculous 30 mph speed limit on the motorway near Goole. A crowd of nearly 11, 000 was very impressive considering the form of the Home side.

We play wakefield 3 times this season including magic. Winning those and the Cas games will be key Leigh if we want to kick on. Funnily enough, we were also 3 wins from our first 6 games in 2017 but then lost a close game at Wakey in our 7th before our season unravelled. To stay up this year we need to do what we couldn't in 2017 and beat the teams around us. We lost all 3 games against Widnes who finished 12th that year.

We do have a much better squad and coaching team than 2017 though so I'm confident we should be able to not only avoid the drop but stay well out of the battle.

Don’t think so. We finished 11 th and would have stayed up in a normal year. Had to go through middle 8’s and Liston million pound game against the Dragons whom we had monstered in the group game.

Fantastic seems a lifetime since the Watershedings I fondly remember the stand behind the goal it was rather like being at the opera:)

    Paul

I also remember the double decker stand behind the posts. Ironically, the last time I attended a Leigh match at Watersheddings in the late Eighties it was abandoned by a referee Mr. Mean after a mass brawl in the 2nd half with Leigh leading by 26-14. The result did not stand and we lost the replayed game!!

The Wakefield v Fev game was in my opinion the pick of the friendlies and so it proved. Plenty of pride and a bit of spite, and as closely matched as you can get between most of SL and the Championship

Fev almost certainly the best Championship team, Trinity as ever far better that the pundits suggest.

Very competitive game. Fev threw everything at Trinity in the first half as you'd expect but were largely thwarted by some first class scrambling defence, which pleased me. All the same in attacking terms Fev were the better team by some way.

In the second half when Trinity realised this was more than just a training run and they rallied. Fitness and finish was the key, Fev were tired and Trinity knew how to take full advantage, something we have been missing for a few years now. It took some stonking tries for us to win, there were no walk ins, we had to play hard and well to win that.

From a Trinity perspective, Proctor and Atoni look first class signings, Proctor in particular looks what he is, a seasoned pro. Two friendlies and he's got stuck into both. The rest of the team looks more balanced though I prefer Morgan Smith to Gaskell myself.

Oh, and the Lineham seems to want to play again, which was an unexpected bonus to be honest.

Fev are a huge team, though I thought a couple of their forwards were a bit blubbery, ok for now but may need sorting. However they are well organised, strong up the middle and have good halves. Hard to see anyone who can challenge them this year.

Looks like Fev. are going to play the same way as last season when their big massive forwards were found out in their games against Leigh when our younger more mobile pack found them out. So to any aspiring championship teams, study the Leigh v Fev matches last season apart from the first of course.

Do you mean Catalans? That's at 5pm, no? I was thinking more 7.30/7.45 ko, as there's almost no major UK sport aired at that time. But as I say, there's the odd Prem game there now, so maybe the barrier's been broken.

Hard to say what attendances would be like for a proper Saturday night kickoff. I suppose if it's promoted as a 'Big Saturday Night Out' it could do ok.

I thought the Catalans are still struggling to have their home games televised this season with only 2 home games confirmed on Sky so far. Or have I missed something?

That is a very good question.

I have looked at all the odds to win and reach the final.

I imagine 6-8 points start for Samoa would be what the bookmakers would offer. England v Tonga I think 2-4 start for Tonga.

These are based on me predicting with regard to their odds now, as opposed to what I think.

    Would this be about right?

Bet 365 have Tonga as 6 point favourites @10/11, and I think that has to be the bet with Jason Taumalolo in that form.

    MODERATION NOTE

Enough of the politicking and culture war stuff. There's just too much of it to moderate without locking the thread or making it nonsense. I'll leave it open but any political stuff or culture war willy (or lack of willy) waggling will see their post deleted regardless of how much time you've spent making yourself angry over something you read on the internet.

Wily waggling??!! This from the so called moderator. Who monitors the moderator?

Then that truly is disgusting , you either have full on ' on field ' , or you have full on ' off field ' , mixing doesn't work , so now where the game was split in 2 under the last licencing , it's now fractured into several bits this time

Wasn’t in the IMG report the ultimate aim was to get 14 clubs with A licences giving us 26 matches with the much preferred 13 home fixtures. But what if we get to 16 A’s. That gives 30 fixtures. Do we then have the opposite problem of loop fixtures?!!

    Yes. Definitely.

This might help in unmasking the culprit of a misogynistic  comment made to Gabby Logan when she worked at Sky Sports. In an interview with the Mail she said that as a young reporter on Sky Sports quoted that an older rugby league commentator said to her

‘your a—- is amazing right now, but sadly for you it’s one of those a—-s that will be on your knees when you hit 30.’
