  1. Given the level of despair at Quins now I think this and other franchise threads on this board could soon be academic - read the comments below

    http://www.league.quins.co.uk/forum/viewto...34&start=10

At the last home game opinion where I was was 50-50 as to whether there will be a next season at Harlequins

    Cost cutting is eveywhere.

David Hughes has finite funds and is tiring of the burden

Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook has allegedly signed for St Helens

Will Sharp allegedly wants out of the club

Andy Ellis is allegedly going back to Barrow

Chad Randall is allegedly going to Salford

Brian McDemott has allegedly got an agreement with Gary Hetherington about returning to the assistant coaching position at Leeds.

No new players for next year and no indication as to season ticxket prices for 2010-11 which will have to increase due to the VAT rise.

    There are three possiblities

Harlequins RL to fold sometime after the Grand Final.

Harlequins RL to merge with London Skolars and reform in the Championship, a precedent was set when Gateshead dropped down a division repreieving an undeserving Leigh Centurions from the drop. A championship club would be easier to run and would preserve part of the current youth development.

Harlequins to limp on next year bottom of the table being thrashed every week.

Moving the franchise to Milton Keynes may be one way of making a more viable club in a less crowded soprting marketplace, except for two things. David Hughes has confirmed he is perplexed as to where this rumour started and secondly the franchise was awarded for London and the South East and not the Midlands.

Undeserving Leigh Centurions - How can you attach the word undeserving, given that they didn't finish in the bottom two either. Toulouse finished below them, and Gateshead cheated. But this is all old hat. As is the fact Richard Branson tried to move London to Leigh years ago and was blocked by the RFL. Moving a 'franchise' was not allowed!

  2. The money comes in handy. You have to put up with the inconvenience.

What money. The 4k the home team gets has to be 'spent' basically on ticketing initiatives, or in English letting people in for free :P

  3. 2011

At least 8 home grown players.

No more than 5 quota players.

No more than 5 overseas trained players inc quota players.

Rest of squad to be from players trained within same federation.

    KEY

Home grown players - any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service with the same clubs academy set up.

Same federation - any player still under 21 and/or has completed 3 years service with other clubs academy set ups within UK (for UK SL clubs) or France (for Catalans etc)

Overseas quota players - as per current rules i.e. Anyone unable to prove origins within EU or Kolpak countries.

Overseas trained - any other overseas player (EU passport or Kolpak etc.)

OK not sure I understand the federation trained thing properly, because what I read above is UK and France federations are seperate entities. Can someone explain please.

  4. I'd get it if it was on Virgin

It's a rolling 1 month contract, as they realise that NRL/GAA fans would likely only want the channel for their respective sports so have made it easy for people to cancel during the off season

2 month minimum according to the Rugby press this morning

  5. Do the good people of the TRL message board believe we have a good, healthy competiton in SL?

Last weekend if you watched Sky Sports two games you would have thought we were the greatest sporting league on the planet.

Four top teams, great intense games (for the neutral  ), great atmospheres in the stadiums, packed out crowds etc I could go on.....

But outside of those top 4 sides, there are only a handful of clubs that are doing positive things (Catalans seem okay for now despite a horror season, Hull maybe crowds wise and Hudds in patches).

There seems to be a big gap between the haves and have nots in our game and I feel that the salary cap is still not working well enough and that these clubs are struggling to make ends meet and advance in crowd terms.

Our traditonal clubs like Cas and Wakey and Bradford are all in a slump, playing in dated grounds, dropping crowds and struggling to hang on to their best players. When was the last time any of these clubs signed a top player from the big four? Nothing promising seems likely in the near future for these teams.

Then we have our expansion clubs, Quins who are struggling badly with investment, crowds and putting a decent team on the park. Crusaders too are punching above their weight this year but questions remain over whether they are viable long term?

Even over the next franchise period 2012-2015 I cant see many of these 'lower clubs' improving apart from maybe Salford if the new ground is ready by then!

The only bright light is a revitalised Widnes Vikings coming into SL in 2012 and the additon of a 2nd French side Toulouse perhaps.

I think unless we are careful and make some hard decisions regarding who is included in the SL in the next franchise round, SL could be an even more divided competition.

This would be the same revitalised Widnes that may not even make the Championship playoffs this season?

  6. I have sent a letter by e-mail today to the chairman of Whitehaven and await a response. When I get one I will let you know the outcome.

I'm still waiting following the Leythers visit. I did get a reply from the RFL though stating they were investigating.

  7. As the Chief Executive of the RFL commented, "At a time when other major spectator sports are facing falling attendances, it is most encouraging to see our gates rising significantly once again. This surely demonstrates that however hard the times, people will always turn up to support a game which offers skill, excitement, commitment, self-discipline, and value for money.

However we musn't be complacent. Much remains to be done and it is particularly pleasingto find that many Rugby League clubs are at last paying attention to the vital need to improve spectators' facilities and comfort. The battle for people's time, attention, and money has never been tougher but the latest figures confirm my conviction that our game is marching inexorably forward to the ultimate goal, which will see Rugby League firmly established as a leading national spectator sport during the course of the current decade".

    Mmmmmmmmm.

...and that my friend is complete and utter tosh. Like for like attendances are up at the moment by 0.28%-a total of about 400 fans over the twenty rounds to date. 5 SL clubs are showing an increase in attendances but 9 are showing significant decreases. The reason for the 'increase' Crusaders RL when compared with Celtics crowds last year (######, expansion must be working lol). Crusaders up 51%, Wire up 18% nothing else to shout about though. Attendances will show a fall by the end of the season I think

  8. the little twonk of a ref probably lost the details of it on his paper-round

    hope he fails his sats

Championship disciplinaries are always a week behind, so it should appear next Tuesday. Were you aware that two out of the three officials last Thursday wre from Leigh :D:D:P

  9. I'm plumping for the Man of the match being Mr Robert Hicks, the Referee, he always gives one hundred percent......

Well you can't complain about the ref, he did give 100%......for you. Even your fans who attended agreed
