And I think he did it in the Cup Final too. He certainly did it after the Saints “man” had succeeded in getting Singleton sent off. It’s a blight on the game.
Putting to one side the game defining incident, though, I was very happy with what we tried to do. Our handling was well off what it should be, which meant we couldn’t cut them up as often as we would like, but we are years ahead of where I expected us to be.
We just need to keep doing what we know works, and have already had a successful season. The game at our place is a great chance to show what we can do. In Peet we can trust.
Second time you have made this sort of comment about a “man.” Perhaps you need to address your own insecurities?

That is because you only see what you want to see.

Thr Walmsley one was odd, he didn’t seem to be gesturing to the ref, more at Bentley in a “well done brainiac, see you in 10” sort of a way.
Yeah I know what you mean, they were winding each other up all night and he was definitely having a pop at him rather than gesturing at the ref but it still didn’t sit right. Bentley is petulant, always has been, shame because he offers a lot as a player.

The Leeds first try was the best one of the match, i applauded it when they scored and then i was told by a couple of mates and a fella behind me (who i didn’t have a clue who he was) “i to enjoy the match a lot more when Saints are conceding tries or are losing”, bizarre !!!.
There was good ball handling by both sides and Leeds looked really dangerous when they threw it out wide. I also thought their defence at times near their line was really good despite the score line. Bennison had a decent game at fullback, and Davies did ok but i don’t think he’s a centre. Lees is a good player but i was surprised that he got Sky MoM, i would’ve picked other players in front of him. A 10pm finish though ruddy hell thank heaven’s it didn’t go to golden point, a 7.45pm KO would be better.
The idiot who threw a bottle at Bentley (i think it was aimed at him) should be made to face Bentley and apologise to him, i hope they catch the fool and get the police to press charges.
The players waving their arms and going mad when a decision hasn’t gone their way or waving an imaginary cards to try and get a player binned or sent off doesn’t look good. I wish there was a way we could stop that but i think it is here to stay.
I hope the Leeds fans had a good journey back over the M62, it must’ve been a late night for them.Waving cards or sticking up 10 fingers to get a player sent off or sin binned should see a yellow card to that player also IMHO, as should the over dramatic football reactions. Only way to clamp down on it. Big Al, Austin and Newman could and perhaps should have been taking a seat for 10 minutes last night. Our game used to be better than that.
Newman reminds me a little of Paul Newlove, exciting player. Saints struggled with him at times, only going to get better.
Whoever threw a bottle at Bentley should get a life ban, I’d be surprised if they don’t.- 2

Some player Newman!

Fabulous play then from Leeds, great to watch. Deserved a try, may come yet

On the face of it this seems a solid and sensible move by the Wigan Club. Not sure if Cooper is part of the expected clear out at Wire or has decided to move on anyway. As an outsider looking in, he always appeared as one of Wire’s better players, so I am surprised to see him going.

I didn’t love him as a player. When somebody plays for your bitter rivals with such ‘uncompromising’ passion they can be hard to love but…what a great servant to his club and the game.
The guard of honour at the end of his last game from Grand Final rivals shows just how much he is respected within the game. Nice to see him honoured.- 2

As a saints fan, I’d miss him. Been great to watch, that Hat trick at headingley a particular highlight, however players come and go. Rare that you get an O’Loughlin or Roby now, especially when they have come from other areas of the country or other countries. Like Thompson and Bentley, if players see their future elsewhere then good luck to them, it’s a short career.
That said I’ll be made up if he stays!

Believe Napa was the same with 2 years and an option for a third.
Seems to be the MO at Catalans as Pearce was reported as the same length and option as well.
Thanks for that. Napa hasn’t lived up to the hype, interesting to see if this signing will help bring the best out of him.

Great signing. Just what Catalans need.
Wonder how many years Napa is signed for?

Ian Watson has confirmed Jack Cogger and Ollie Russell will be the starting half backs tomorrow. Fages out for 8 weeks.
Fages doesn’t have much luck with CC finals does he? Hopefully he will have more opportunities in future.

Did he? Admittedly I was young(ish), but I remember him as a fullback and not so much a utility. Definitely not a forward.
Hard to find the stats on this but if you Google you’ll find mention of him on the Saints heritage site at Full Back, Centre and Loose Forward. Another article has him filling in at 9 under Eric Hughes. I remember (maybe incorrectly) an interview on Radio Merseyside where they said to him something like ‘you have played every position at Saints bar prop..’ and Veivers interrupted to say he filled in there when there was an injury. Absolutely a full back, without doubt a back but did play all over the park. Wonderful servant.

Phil Veivers definitely played every position at St Helens pre- Super League.

Cracking game. Saints desire is off the chart but Wire matched them in most areas. They’re beatable this Saints side though minus Dodd, with the shuffle around they’ve had to do and they look clunky in attack, so this season is very much alive.
Agree with that mate, thankfully I don’t think the coaching and playing group believe the hype from some. Sure they know they are good but they work damn hard at being good. Wigan proved 2 weeks ago that we are beatable and others, like Wire tonight, have shown our vulnerability. That said the desire within the group pulls Saints through most weeks.

I thought Wire were really good tonight, Saints looking as clunky as they did in the cup semi but how much of that is down to the opponents? In a match with many very good players on the field I thought Wrench was one of the very best.

Hull have numbers and keep trying one man stuff. A smarter team would be beating Saints tonight.
Hull still might.

Yeah great to see and for such important charities, does anyone have a link to donate?
