  1. If we are bringing Trout in I think that tells us all we need to know about our aspirations for next season. Also I don’t know what average attendances for next season have been built into budget setting but when gates are significantly down the club will then have to begin the process of managing decline.

  2. If the club has (re) signed more players, and I’ve no idea if they have, wouldn’t it be better to announce it? I get the impression there are a lot of fans still really disappointed about how last year finished and are waiting to see what the nucleus of the squad might look like for next year before committing to season tickets/sponsorship etc. From a marketing perspective I’ve never thought drip feeding signing announcements helps season ticket sales.

  3. It will actually be fascinating to see what squad of players we actually end up with next season given the massive churn but the (re) signing of a few quality players. I wonder if we are going to try to do what Toulouse seemed to do last year which is have a first 17 that can compete but have a very small squad, rely on loans etc, hope for the best with injuries and try to stay in touch with the play off places. When you look at the press quotes of the new signings, presumably written by the club, they don’t mention SL. I think we are starting to see the early manifestations of the clubs very much changed ambitions and strategy for next year.

  4. Agreed. This is why MC and the club put so much into last season because they knew this was coming. I’m afraid seeing no obvious route into SL will take 1000 off the gate each week. We’ve been so lucky having someone with the means to invest in a squad of such quality but unfortunately blew the chance. I’m afraid I’ll be picking my games next season with there being nothing obvious to play for. If that means I’m not a real fan then guilty as charged.

  5. JD is surely the kind of player we need going forward as we rebuild and transition. Ultra reliable, committed to the club and probably not demanding the earth in terms of wages. Was used sparingly in the last couple of years it appears just to give other so called big name forwards a rest. I’m surprised it’s not the other way round with him demanding to leave and go to a club where he’ll be appreciated and get regular game time.

  6. Difficult to defend a performance like that. I think Ford got a few things wrong today. We were at least one big middle light in the 17 selected. Our starting middles weren’t big enough and we got smashed in the first 30. With Bussey being used as a prop and having Day and ET in the second row we have absolutely no strike on the edges. Hau should have played.
We are not likely to get a better chance to go up. As mentioned Wouldn’t be surprised if MC pulls the cash out now. If that happens we’ll never be able to put a squad of this years depth and quality together again and will likely become a top half championship side.
fair play to London they were impressive. Their support play was top draw with players in motion constantly giving the ball carrier options and the defence guessing.

  7. A very small number of our so called fans regularly cause trouble and our chairman has been charged with taking an hammer to someone which seems to be supported by evidence. There’s possibly enough there to stop us going up if the conspiracy theorists are right and the powers that be don’t want us in SL.

  8. I think Joey manages his was through games by avoiding getting tackled too much. He rarely takes a hit up coming out of backfield. I think the silly offloads are to avoid getting smashed….let Luke take the hit. Very often the best option is to take the line on himself. When he does take on the defence line at full tilt he’s difficult to handle.

  9. I buy a season ticket every year even though I know that with family and work commitments I won’t be able to get to all the games. I also pay much more into the squad builder than the amount asked for. I guess I’m lucky that I can but. It’s my way of trying to support the club. I think the point that I’m making is that we all have that passion for Fev and do whatever we can to demonstrate that. I don’t know think this increase will put us diehards off. The challenge for the club is to find 500 new people who’ll come through the gate.

  10. Hau

    Moors

    Davies

One of the obvious failings of Long was that he didn’t always pick Moors when he was fit. He’s close to unplayable at Championship level when he’s firing. Some people say all our forwards are much of a muchness. It’s not true, some are better than others and if you pick the best one’s available you’ll get better results.

  11. As I’ve said before because it’s really important I applaud MC putting his money where his mouth is and I applaud the ambition of the club. But when you see the players we are being linked to if we get up then I’m afraid we are going to be firm favourites to come straight back down. But I guess with the extra revenue and TV money we would be better placed financially to go up again and maybe stay up.

  12. I’ve listened to Grix on the radio quite a few times in recent weeks after Fax have suffered disappointing defeats and he’s openly questioned the attitude and effort levels of players. Both of those were spot on from Fax today and we were lacking. Everyone is seemingly raising their game when they play us but that shouldn’t come as a surprise and we should expect it.

  13. No effective half back function today. Poor last play options and no link between backs and forwards. Our game plan seemed to be to batter them down the middle but our starting forwards meant that was never going to work as they weren’t big enough. When you’re without the likes of Moors and Yei is trying to bash the house down really a smart game plan. The fax pack played as an effective unit and the rotation from the coaching staff was right. Unless Koppy got injured the decision not to bring him back for a second spell was shocking as he had a real impact. Dan Smith hasn’t had the impact I thought he would have.
Not really our day today with the bounce of the ball for two tries that went begging. One came off a knee so should have been play on. That said Fax wanted it more and deserved the win on the balance of play. Every other coach in the league would kill for our playing roster. Springer was immense today and Briscoe’s work rate and go forward was superb. Fax clearly targeted Joey defensively and Astley by getting a big forward one to one on him.

longy seems to like changing the team regularly trying to keep players happy but it ain’t working get a settled side baring injuries and stick to it as at the moment it’s pair any 2 from 3 which is causing problems and his sub methods are rather poor.

Anyway I just can’t see him at fev next season.

Agreed. Every time Long is interviewed he talks about the importance of the spine and having regular players in those positions building up an understanding with each other…but he keeps changing the spine!!?? Granted some of it has been forced by injury.
I think there might be a transfer of power happening in the background to Ford. We don’t see Long being as visible with interviews etc all of a sudden.
