Whenever Davies starts he is in the top 3 for MOM every week….but he didn’t start in the cup final….

Agreed. It’s easy to go doom and gloom after one defeat but there was a pattern to the game today that a change in game plan won’t fix. Bigger, stronger forwards dominating the ruck and playing the ball much quicker. JSL got smashed about today. Bussey and Kopczak had very little impact going forward.

Ye best team won by a mile today. They could have scored more. Their pack completely smashed ours. Too big, strong and quick. It reminded me a bit of when we play the lower teams and our forwards make yards at will.

Bibb played when we were in the top league….I think! Mark hasn’t played in SL against the best attacks and defences yet. Surely that makes the comparison between Mark and any player who played in the highest division slightly flawed. Although he’s undoubtedly a class act.

Play Connor this week. Start Ford so he can start to build a partnership with Jacks before the final. Give Smith the week off as he’ll be doing big minutes in the final.

I said earlier in the year that players like Callum and Loui weren’t big enough to play prop but was advised that it’s not the same position it used to be so they were fine! Agree Callum looked one for the future last year but hasn’t kicked on….but if you get 10 mins game time for a coach that doesn’t really rate you are you really going to have the confidence to kick on.
I remain perplexed by Big Mac’s use of the bench but he’s much better at this than I’ll ever be. -
If we get promoted all will be forgiven. If we don’t we’ll revisit this moment and say Big Mac got it wrong. I’m sure he’s aware of that.

The signing of Hepi could be a real good one. He’s tough and aggressive and might give us that bit of nastiness that is always welcome.
It just seems a bit of an understated signing from the club. No real proper announcement with quotes etc…..

Hardaker would be a great signing and the ambition of the club is awesome but surely we have enough backs now!? Can we have two nasty, huge props please!!??

As we know no part time team had ever been promoted. For me that’s not coincidence and I think that’s how Big Mac sees it. But I’m not sure signing players who will obviously be full time themselves operating in a part time environment is the answer.

I think it is or bust. Whoever comes down from SL next year with a parachute payment is likely to be stronger than us if we don’t go up.
Chizzy has been great but he only ever stays somewhere 2/3 years before there’s a fall out so he might not be completely blameless himself. No idea what’s happened behind the scenes.

I do think we are really going for it this year and recognise it as a great chance to get up so full credit to the club for the investment. There is also some level of logic signing players to stop your obvious competitor doing so if you can afford it.

If that’s true then we won’t be signing Ford and not playing him. So it’s surely going to be him and Jacks as the all aussie half back pairing meaning Smith will miss out.

Some very valid points made in this debate and lots of passion.
My take for what it’s worth is that our best half back pairing is Chisholm and Jacks. We need to play them together week in week out and play them into form as a pairing. Slight teething troubles won’t cost us matches. That means Smith is not in the 17 but absolutely first reserve.
Also Connor Jones needs to come on after 25 mins not 65.
I think the situation with Kyle Trout is interesting. When we signed some players after Big Mac joined he made comments about their quality about others he didn’t. He never spoke about Trout. So who signed Trout?

I keep seeing another post on the Squad 22 thread and get excited that there’s been another announcement about a major signing….then read it and come back down to earth!

Interesting. He apparently didn’t have a great season at York but if he’s got something left in the tank it could be a good move. Certainly brings something different.

I wonder if there will be a new signing announcement this week as a Xmas present to the cappers. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if that was the case…but might just be wishful thinking on my part!

Looks like an impressive Leigh squad but a bit short on numbers especially in the forwards. Probably more signings to announce. The question is whether our squad is better on paper?
