I think it's great news. An increasing salary cap is the sign of a healthy and vibrant competition.

That level of salary cap is also more than enough to attract the premier rugby talent in the Pacific and make RL the game of choice. It is also very competitive with any rugby competition in the world, many of which are seeing declining salary caps.

Factor in the standard of living and climate in Australia and you’ve arguably got the best  domestic rugby competition on the planet with maybe the top14 competition in France.

NRL news 2022: The Mole, Wests Tigers sign Ben Houston from rugby union (nine.com.au)

"The Tigers may have pulled off a coup by snaring the captain of the famous Randwick rugby union club.

Ben Houston, a big, mobile prop or second-rower, made the most tackles in the Shute Shield last season and has decided to try his hand at league.

His loss will be seen as a blow in rugby - only two months ago Waratahs head coach Darren Coleman invited Houston to join his squad."

Probably see more of this kind of thing, NRL clubs being able to afford to take more chances on union players they think may make the switch.

I agree that we will probably see more and more Union players targeted at lower levels compared to the more established players.

Without starting anything, I don't think there are any Super Rugby players NRL clubs would want that they don't already have.

Australian Union players are more and more just guys who aren't good enough for League.

NZ has the pull if the All Blacks jersey still but that is fading.

NZ rugby Union has some terrific talent that could make the grade in the NRL as does Fiji.

Dont think the pull of the AB’s jersey is fading but the appeal of super rugby definitely is fading and fading fast.

25% increase. Now 3X the Super League salary cap.

    https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/12/23/nrl-announces-record-high-salary-caps-for-2023-season/

    NRLW is now $884,000 (+153%)

Great news for RL down under and obviously for the players.

Dont understand why it quotes two sets of figures at  $11.45 million and $12.1 million?

edit. Just read the article again and seen that the additional $650k is for development contracts.

looks awesome and further cements the Dragons long term future to the ‘Gong.

    Reckon it’s a winner @The Rocket?

Dragons should be permanently located in Wollongong with no more than 1 or 2 “home” games played kogarah oval.

Would be could if WIN stadium could get some money spent on it as well.

Does anyone know what happened to Lyon? I cannot seem to find them in any of the divisions. Did they go bust?

I also noticed Vaulx-en-Velin in the third tier (Nationale) who I believe are also based in Lyon. So I wonder if that is where all of Lyon's players ended up?

    Lyon villeurbanne XIII?

    That's your view

My intelligence is not self declared, it has been measured by others.

What I work out is that it those who repeatedly post on the General forum instead of the more appropriate one, as titled by those who run this Forum, would find their threads almost entirely unread by most, and engaged with by very few, which is fine.

    Exactly.

and it doesn’t need an honours degree to work this out.

Believing he’s a sr/13 and played in Toulouse u19s last year so can’t be to old. Only seen him a few times but he’s a big powerful runner with decent ball skills.

    Thanks.

sounds promising and good to hear Toulouse are producing French talent.

I repeat, for accuracy,  important in my disciplines, why post in a General forum when there is a specific sub topic forum in which you could post.

Hasn’t it already been explained to you already mate?

you’re a self declared intelligent man, work it out.

Perhaps we should create a cranium forum for you. There is a French forum but some people persist in posting French specific threads on the General forum "because more people will see it"

Judging by the responses on thses forums they are mostly from Francophiles.

I know there is a Political forum, but I have no wish to be involved in it nor do I wish to see overtly political threads on the General forum. Over to you John and Martyn.

Isn’t their bigger and far more important things for you to worry about?

You are probably right. A PNG club will be a huge financial burden. But then again, if the return on investment is a reasonably grown player pool, then perhaps the investment is worth it. If there was a joined PNG and Aus national government strategy to part finance a club for 10-15 years, it would probably be worth a shot. Give the club plenty of time to become sustainable.

Biggest difficulty I see would be contracting the 15 or more non nationals they would require to be competitive for the first 10 years.

If I was one of the Bears faithful, I would be making the best business case possible for a return to the CC, none of this country or joined WA nonsense.

A PNG NRL franchise is too risky all around for both on and off the field reasons and their are far too many less risky options in Perth, Queensland and New Zealand and maybe even Adelaide or Melbourne 2 etc.
