  1. Dewsbury forum suggesting they thought we looked weak in the pack- an area where we have been really strong for a number of seasons now- but this can't be a surprise. We have lost Reilly, Kibula, Hirst and Lillycrop from last season, possibly Browny too and the only confirmed replacement has been Cooper (who I think will be a great signing) and two trialists. That's a lot of size, power, experience and skill gone. I do hope we have some plan to replace them without relying on some DR one week wonder from Castleford.

I thought Luke Blake had retired?

You may be right but as long as communications from the club remain so poor we'll never know. If he has retired it would have been nice of the club to thank him for his service

We have 2 fullbacks in squad in butterworth and Burton as yet we have one reconised winger on the books at present

Johnson was shown on the video of the Scammonden training video but he will have to have lost a lot of weight since last season and shown that he's still got the pace to be given a new contract imo.

What was funny about it? St Helens wanted him on loan trial from Barrow for a season, he was under contract but had a SL buy out clause, St Helens bought out the remainder of his contract. All above board.

Exactly. StHelens bought out the remainder of his contract. We apparently have contracts with Super League release clauses in them that allow the player to leave without any compensation to the club at all. Batley 0 Agents 1.

I fully support contracts which allow players to leave for a SL team, but if the player is under contract then compensation must be included in the contract. No wonder Kevin is rethinking how we contract players in future. We have been either naive or inept.

  5. Just a reminder that with less than 2 weeks to go to our first pre season game we still have only 18 players signed on plus two trialists. This Castleford DR deal had better be a good one, eh? And not just a series of unfit players we are getting match fit for Castleford, untried juniors we are giving match experience to or unmotivated players who have fallen out of favour at Cas and are expected to refind their motivation at a Championship club. What could go wrong? Am I the only one (apart from Phil, of course) who is getting extremely worried? Even Kevin looked depressed and lacking his usual positivity in the video of the super6 last night. Next season could be a very long and worrying season at this rate.

When public transport works, it means you don't need a designated driver, you don't have to worry about parking or navigating through what is quite a mess of a city.

Yes, there's East and West, but the public transport system on either side of the Thames is the real differentiator. There are 249 tube stations on the North and 29 on the South.

It's also heavily biased North with the number of London Overground and DLR stations, and if you use mainline rail South of the river, you are in the hands of some of the worst-performing franchises in history.

    What he says!!!

Back to thread then! 5 days since #3 went live, how's it going?

Phil is absolutely right. This is a perfect example of what's wrong with our fundraising efforts. We come up with an idea, launch it to not much of a fanfare and then just forget it. This was supposed to be a series of six draws, with the opportunity to repeat the process. Where is the promotion, marketing, advertising of this? There's absolutely nothing to tell the world at large that we're running these draws. Where's the incentive to buy, the reports on winners, the fanfares? Nothing absolutely nothing. It really is very amateur. These draws are going the same way as the lottery, the War Chest and sundry other schemes we have launched and then abandoned. Is there anyone at the club with business or marketing experience- appears not.

It doesn't work like that I would suspect there would be a super league get out clause in place.

If he has a contract with us for 2024 we should be fully able to demand a transfer fee. Super League get out clauses don't prevent the selling club being due a transfer fee. Kevin, as a solicitor should have ensured that I imagine

Just heard josh rourke is leaving and going to a super league club!

Bad news if true. We should however be due a transfer fee if he is signed on for the 2024 season? Might pay to bring McGowan back?

Great response, just bought my 2nd lot. Just a question; as we only get QR codes in response instead of ticket numbers how does the drawing process work? Are the codes linked to email addresses etc.....

The video showed names linked to tickets. Redditch the first winner

One answer could be that......DR has a cost attached......and some are ridiculously high.....and we all know, Batley haven't got,and will not ,pay crazy amounts.

Well, if DR isn't going to happen, then we need at least another 7 or 8 players signing on. A squad of 18 (announced at the moment) isn't going to get us very far. One or the other.

We are in for a tough season Roger, it's clear that we don't have the means to replace some of the exceptional players that we have lost.  And people have a right to express concern.  But there has been a thread of constant nitpicking and denigrating the clubs efforts through good times and bad these last few years that stifles enthusiasm.

I think the major concern I have is the club's general lack of initiative in drumming up support to address the lack of money. Kevin stated the club was £30k down on last years reduced admission prices and was concerned that if the central distribution was more than a further £30k reduced next season we would have difficulties. We haven't heard a word on this although an earlier poster suggested this had been reduced by £45k.

So, something has to be done. Lots of good suggestions from other posters as well as myself but here is a list of things I think we should be doing-

Get season tickets advertised and on sale before Christmas

Get the new kit sorted, advertised and on sale before Christmas

Get a Christmas draw organised ( and a January draw and....)

Get the War Chest re-energised, advertised and do a regular update on winners of the weekly draw

If the lottery is still alive (last website update was Nov 2020) get it advertised

    Get player sponsorships advertised

    Get other sponsorship opportunities advertised

And I'm sure there are plenty of other things we could do.

As it is I see nothing coming out of the club to try to engage with the fans and try and raise funds. The website is a waste of time, out of date with old information. Use it. The recent ratings issued by the RFL/IMG are a sorry tale- we are ranked three places below a team which has just gone out of business for goodness sake.  None of the above ideas are radical but they just need a bit of effort putting into them. The fans want to help - hence all these messages of concern but we need to see some proactive input from the club too.

We get to know our Rfl distribution amount tomorrow so then we know a bit more about the financial challenge ahead. It will be reasonable news if we are £35,000 down on previous season but anything more will not be. So make no mistake we are in difficult times which we are working through.

A little bit worrying that there has been no update on this. Bad news?
