Still, wouldn't want to see the person that sold sponsorship rights for logos on lorries
The good news then is that nobody is currently proposing that Richard Lewis is coming back.
Nigel Wood is a much more hard money sort of guy who was against the idealism that lay behind that deal.

If Nigel Wood is appointed to a position of power in UK RL again, the sport will get the fate it deserves. A genuinely awful sports administrator who, like Ralph Rimmer, undone all the good work done by Richard Lewis in the early part of this millennia and who history won't look back on kindly.
Bit of a rewriting of history there.

That said. When did we last win a game at Elland Road?
We meaning GB/England, 28th October, 1989.

Not being able to get Elland Road would be a big blow. For a Yorkshire venue Huddersfield or Hull are obviously better despite not having the track record for crowds that Leeds does.

Hetherington has always been a Wood fan, not without reason; not sure what Beaumont is up to.
It's definitely not a great idea to go backwards but the current RFL leadership are distinctly uninspiring. Regardless until we give the chosen leader absolute or near absolute authority with regard to administering the league, including Super League, there's not much point making changes.

Superb stuff.
If there's one thing this sport has been missing it is the constant references to buffets whenever the RFL is mentioned.
So much of what people said about him was couched in this sort of terminology. It was really pathetic in retrospect that we didn't have a higher standard of discussion about his successes (of which there were quite a few) and failures.

Any word on sales at St Helens and Leeds? Two big games there; with a fair wind I think 75k should be within reach this weekend:
Wigan - 20k
Catalans - 8k
Hull KR - 11k
Leeds - 15k
Saints- 14k
Huddersfield - 7k
15k may be a stretch for Leeds. It's harder to tell what sales look like on the new ticketing website but I'd expect around 14k. Obviously depends on how many Wakey fans turn up.

2) Why is the main object of the game described as a touchdown when 90% of the time the ball never touches the ground?
You may as well ask why our sport still refers to "tries" when the act long since became a point scoring act in its own right rather than just a prelude to trying to score.
Sports terminology is bound up in history but as long as everyone knows what it means there's no need to try and unpick it.

One of the lowest crowds ever for a Leeds game at Headingley, even if they were the away side yesterday, only one I can find lower was the 1912 game vs Australia.
Leeds fans have evidently never been interested in watching their club play plucky expansion teams with ridiculous accents.

See the original reply which I quoted, prior to you coming in with a fictitious statement about Leeds being too good to employ old boys. Hall, Walker, JJB….
Mcguire would walk into Leeds back room staff, to suggest that he wouldn’t because of a ‘new era’, is arrogant and disrespectful to McGuires skills and recent experiences. That is a very bizarre take on what has been said.

Chev Walker there for his good looks?
Danny is a quality coach and person, far too early to write him off. And if he did become available, Leeds won’t be the only club interested in having him on the back room staff.
Cas’ problems run much deeper than the current Head Coach
I said another and no he probably wouldn't get appointed if we were starting with a clean slate.
Nobody has written McGuire off, I don't know where you're seeing that.

Proven track record in the back room at Hull KR, club legend, knows the club, evidently has talent.
Even a proven top coach would have his work cut out at Cas with that squad. You can’t judge him working with that budget, and lack of resources.
Leeds don't need someone else who "knows the club", there is no current need to appoint any old boys. That era is over.

The draw for the last 16 of the FA Cup is on The One Show tomorrow on BBC 1, the CC draw could have been done too, a double up event. If someone at the RFL gets their finger out they could at least suggest it to Aunty.
Yes I'm sure the soccer people would just accept that.

Attendance at Headingley 1,310. Poor. I don't feel Leeds put any real effort into promoting this and the decision to play on Saturday at midday, whatever the reasons, was unhelpful.

There has typically been two weeks between rounds in recent years. The next round this time isn't until 14th-16th March. Drawing it next week still leaves plenty of time. This is just a moan from miserable people searching for things to complain about.
So we can probably expect an Aaron Bower column in a similar vein to appear shortly.

The Challenge Cup’s a joke. A heritage museum that’s trying to keep alive a world that no longer exists.
Have you ever been to a Challenge Cup game?

I agree on the naffness - and I think I made that point in my first post on this, but I do think that's a nature of marketing/PR like this tbh. To make some noise it generally will have to be a little out there.
I think it being a one-off, and all rather tongue-in-cheek is perfectly fine though tbh.
I understand what the logic is with these things but it always strikes me as a bit desperate, trying to quite transparently piggyback off someone or thing more famous. I wonder how it's actually perceived by people.
The Super League GF programme always has these "famous person loves RL" articles, and most of the time they are relatively transparent. Similarly there was a piece with some soccer player on the Leeds website a couple of days ago.
In short I just would prefer it if we made our own news with our own players. Luke Littler might own a news cycle for Warrington and maybe that's all that matters. But what it really suggests is the continued failure of the sport to create its own narratives.

Did St Helens 12-40 Salford on 25th January get reported on here? Can't see it, maybe it was lost in the Salford thread.
Not sure of the respective team strengths and I know trial games don't mean that much. But regardless it certainly doesn't shift the view that Wellens is a decent bet for first coach to be sacked this year.
-
Don't laugh but maybe they are going to announce it as part of a phased series of news items in the two week build up to the new SL season?

Many people involved in a takeover which has fallen through don't want their details to be public. That's just the real world and why many or most get announced after the deal is done.

Sheffield is outside what would be considered the heartland. Hull is probably a better choice. Skipping West Yorkshire would be a bold move but probably necessary if Elland Road really isn't available.
