Super League will not receive a penny from their sponsorship deal with Papa John’s.
The competition will receive plenty of pizza, with players and matchday staff being fed following games.
But League Express understands they will not get any money for the partnership, which sees the pizza powerhouse get matchday advertising on touchline billboards, as well as an acknowledgement at the start of Super League’s video content.
The arrangement is in place until the end of the season and it’s believed Super League hope it can lead to a more financially appealing deal next year.
But, for the time being, Super League is effectively giving away advertising in return for pizza.
The competition’s Chief Commercial Officer Rhodri Jones said: “As we have seen since the restart, Betfred Super League games are getting faster and harder and I know the players are grateful when they see so many pizzas to choose from after a tough 80 minutes.”
Papa John’s Marketing Director Giles Codd added: “Ensuring the players and officials are fed safely post-match is paramount and our teams are well-drilled in safely delivering fresh, hot and tasty pizza after successfully adapting to the situation we find ourselves in during this global pandemic.”
