Rams have plenty in reserve

Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison says the club is already feeling the benefits of an expanded reserves competition this season.

The Rams’ second-string side took on Halifax in a rearranged fixture, with both clubs fielding a host of first-team players.

Dewsbury have already faced a Wakefield Select XIII and will also take on Super League clubs later in the year under the new structure.

Morrison said: “It’s really helped with the depth at our club.

“Last year was good for us, but with only five teams in the competition you were playing the same sides every couple of weeks and it wasn’t the best.

“I think already everybody that is involved is starting to see the benefits this year.

“We’ll be playing against some Super League teams and that will certainly help our boys develop.”
