Huddersfield Giants given green light for stadium move in 2026

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS have been given the green light to move to The Shay in Halifax next season.

That’s while a new home is built that will serve the Giants, who intend to leave the John Smith’s Stadium.

Club owner Ken Davy is set to buy The Shay from Calderdale Council, who approved a purchase in March, so that the Giants can play there temporarily from 2026.

Davy’s proposals means that a new hybrid pitch will be installed at the ground, which will continue to host current tenants FC Halifax Town and Halifax Panthers, this summer.

There were concerns that the Giants’ move would see the round-ball club fall foul of English Football League regulations, with Halifax currently in the National League play-offs and aiming for promotion to League Two.

The EFL’s board must approve any groundshare and typically do not allow a club to share with more than one other sports team.

However, that hurdle has now been cleared with confirmation that all three will be permitted to play at the venue.

FC Halifax Town posted on X: “Following discussions with the EFL and the National League, it is agreed that Halifax Panthers and Huddersfield Giants can play fixtures at The Shay Stadium, along with FC Halifax Town, from the 2025-2026 season.”
