HUDDERSFIELD coach Luke Robinson is looking forward to getting up to speed with Fiji international Taane Milne.
With prop Tom Burgess and utility back Jacob Gagai already confirmed as new arrivals, the versatile 29-year-old, who is returning from a knee issue, made it a trio of signings by the Giants from South Sydney Rabbitohs when in late November he agreed a two-year contract.
Milne, who had represented Fiji in both their Pacific Bowl matches the month before, had a short stint in England before returning to Australia for the birth of his daughter Winter.
The former St George Illawarra Dragons and New Zealand Warriors player is due to fly back this week.
And Robinson said: “It will be great to get him over here, get our physio team working with him, and see where he’s at.
“It wasn’t a major injury, but he needed a clean-out, and he’s been working on his own to do everything possible to get himself ready.
“He has been following a rehabilitation programme and sent us videos and he looks to be in decent shape.
“Once we see get him here, we can assess his condition and see what we need to do to get him ready as soon as possible.”
Milne played ether wing or centre for Souths, but turned out in the second row for Fiji against Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands, both in Suva.
“He’s played a lot of his career in the centres, but he did well in the second row for Fiji,” added Robinson.
“Taane will give us options and a bit of an X-factor. He has a great offload and he plays second-phase rugby really well, so that’s something we can hopefully adapt to and utilise.”
Milne said: “I can’t just come back from Australia and jump straight back into the team. I’ve got to work for my spot.
“The club obviously believe in me and I’ve got to make sure I repay their faith for giving me the opportunity to come over.”
