Huddersfield lose Wood for rest of season

Huddersfield Giants have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of the rest of the season after it was revealed that hooker Kyle Wood will miss the remainder of the campaign.

Wood suffered a broken foot during the win against Catalans last weekend, and Anderson said it quickly became clear that Wood was set for a long-term spell on the sidelines.

“As soon as Woody underwent his scans it was pretty clear what the injury was,” said Anderson.

“He suffered multiple fractures in his foot and will undergo surgery later this week to have it plated and wired. He’ll then have the wires taken out later on and should only miss the first couple of weeks of the next pre-season.”

The Giants are also sweating over vice-captain Brett Ferres; he has suffered a torn bicep but Anderson is hopeful he can play some part later in the season for Huddersfield – although he will miss the game against Wakefield on Sunday.

“It’s possible Brett’s injury will be similar to the one Craig Kopzcak had the other season,” Anderson told the Huddersfield Examiner.

“Koppy was able to play on with it until the end of the season, so we’re obviously hoping it’s something similar for Brett. He’s now been booked in to see a surgeon to get a final assessment.”
