Hull FC assistant in line for England role

Hull FC assistant coach Andy Last is one of several coaches across Super League who could be set for a role in Shaun Wane’s backroom staff with England.

Wane said, when taking the England job on a two-year deal that selecting his coaching team would be one of his first priorities.

He is not short of options. Ian Watson and Danny Ward were both Wayne Bennett’s assistants during the Great Britain tour, but they have not worked in the England setup under Bennett in the past.

The likes of Paul Wellens have been on the England team in recent years. But Wane is considering all options across Super League, including the likes of Lee Radford’s assistant

Last, who has worked as assistant coach at Hull for a number of years, and is viewed by many within the game as a talented coach with a bright future.

Last has also had experience of coaching in international Rugby League before. He was Steve McCormack’s assistant with Scotland during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
