Eagles wait on Jacks

Sheffield coach Mark Aston says he will have a clearer picture of whether to offer trialist halfback Rhys Jacks a contract after this week.

The Australian-born Canada international has been training with the club since enjoying an unsuccessful spell at Bradford Bulls.

Aston has praised the halfback for his attitude, but says that last week’s short turnaround ahead of the Friday night match with Halifax made it difficult for Jacks to properly impress.

Aston said: “He’s a great kid with a great attitude, but it’s been a bit tough for him.

“He came in on the Wednesday that we were already planning for the Workington game, then we had a quick turnaround for Halifax.

“We should see a bit more of him this week because we’ve got a long turnaround now. “That will let me do a few more things with him and I’ll be able to make a call on there he’s at.”
