Jamaican Intercollegiate Rugby League Championship off to a flyer

The 2014 Jamaican Intercollegiate Rugby League Championship got off to a flying start.

With six institutions vying for glory, defending champions Mico University College defeated University of Technology 40-8 with Fabion Turner running in a hat trick of tries.

Last season’s runners up GC Foster College triumphed 40-18 against Portmore Community College, with prop Patrick Alexander scoring two tries on debut.

In the other game, University of West Indies opened with a win, beating Excelsior Community College 22-10. Stand-off Kemoy Whyte starred, scoring 12 of their points.

The sides will play each other twice with the top four battling it out in the semi finals on April 12, and the Grand Final will be played on Thursday April 17.
