SHEFFIELD EAGLES skipper Joel Farrell says controlled aggression will be his mantra as he bids to lead the South Yorkshire side back to the play-offs.
The Eagles made the six in 2023, losing out at the first stage to eventual Grand Final winners London Broncos.
But they missed out by a place and on points difference to Featherstone last year, since when Craig Lingard has become coach.
The former Keighley, Batley and Castleford coach has appointed second rower Farrell as his captain following Anthony Thackeray’s retirement.
The 30-year-old Jamaica international has become known for his robust approach, and said: “It’s a key part of my game.
“But perhaps I’ve been a bit hot-headed in the past, and I’m no good to the team if I’m in the sinbin or suspended.
“I’ve tried to learn to control my emotions better, and while I will still play with aggression, I want it to be controlled.
“It’s even more important I do that now I’m the skipper.”
Farrell crossed for two tries as he led Sheffield to the 62-0 win over West Bowling at Olympic Legacy Park, which cemented a home Challenge Cup third-round meeting with Wigan this Friday.
