McKinnon plans to walk fiancee down aisle

Less than a fortnight after breaking his neck in a tragic on-field accident, Newcastle Knights forward Alex McKinnon has announced he is to marry long-term girlfriend Teigan Power – and he plans to walk her down the aisle.

The 22-year-old, who currently only has use of his right arm, posted a photograph of the pair to his Instagram account earlier today along with his first message to supporters. He wrote: “This girl is my soldier, I am truly overwhelmed with the support and wishes from everybody in the Rugby League society and the community at large.

“Your ongoing support will never be forgotten. P.S when life throws you struggles respond with a smile. So happy to announce Teigan and my engagement. #throughthickandthin #iwillwalkherdowntheaisle.”

McKinnon landed on his head in a tackle featuring Melbourne Storm’s Jordan McLean, who was banned for seven weeks for his involvement, and Bromwich brothers Jesse and Kenny. He broke two parts of his vertebrae and was put into an induced coma. Reports suggested he was quadriplegic (paralysed in all limbs and torso) but when he regained consciousness he had use of his right arm.
